Most prisons are privately owned and are for profit even if they say they aren't. I'm assuming they get state funding depending on how many inmates are there, and they probably get a lot more than they should and pocket most of it, and leave the rest as scraps to everyone else. Makes sense to make music that will send you there as a proving grounds in modern culture.

I look at hip hop from before 1990 and hip hop after 1990 and it is a night and day difference.

With how hateful politics has gotten, it just makes me withdraw from voicing any political opinion. I don't hate people that disagree with me politically, I lean more left and a good majority of my friends lean more right, but they're also the people where we can just talk about it and make jokes about each other knowing it's not going to change our friendship. I obviously do not condone what happened, but are we really surprised?
