Hi Nick, John Peel was so important wasn’t he, he gave so many bands their first break. A great champion of bands the big labels at the time wouldn’t have touched. I don’t remember Death By Milkfloat, what a great name, I feel I’ve missed out. To be honest, The Ruts were much better than Ruts DC, Malcolm Owen just couldn’t be replaced. Those first two Ruts albums were the essentials imho ‘The Crack’ and ‘Grin and Bear It’. Have you got those? Mike

Thanks for some really interesting comments. Very late last you had me pulling out and playing Ghost in the Machine, and I played Darkness and Omegaman several times each! You are absolutely right they are fantastic songs, in many respects hidden treasures. I love boxsets because I love seeing the development of songs from their demo state. Great comments, thank you! Hi K, the Magazine comp, I think, is pretty rare, I certainly hadn’t seen it before. But must say it’s great and definitely worth pursuing. I’ve been playing it through the day. I forgot to say that on the Radio Clash 1981 tour The Clash also got Futura 2000 to design the tour poster. So he was certainly very busy with The Clash in 1981. Thanks for the info about BC Day, I didn’t know any of that and I love history. So yes, Happy BC Day to you to! 😁 Mike

A guy from a town an hour and half north of me won the Olympic gold a few days ago, and today a woman from just outside Vancouver won the women's event.

Hi Wannabe Mike, HMHB are very very English in their humour. Have you ever seen any of the British Comedy films from mainly the 60’s the ‘Carry On…. ‘ films? If you have they are that humour set to punk music! Dirty Three, excellent. Instrumental, ambient, edgy. Very clever. DCD is an og. What a great duo. I seeking many more of their records. Hi Morten, typical of The Clash to do something arty on tour. They invited him to spraypaint and sing on their Radio Clash tour and I forgot to say he also designed the tour poster. Juju is my favourite Siouxsie but Peepshow is coming up fast. Mike

I forgot to say Brian that after The Clash meeting Futura 2000 at a Bonds Casino gig in May ‘81, The Clash not only got him to spray the backdrop live but also sing the 12” song and he designed their tour poster for that ‘Radio Clash’ tour! I’m playing the Magazine comp now, it’s absolutely brilliant, they were such a great post punk band. I remembering hearing you talk about Bela recently, superb classic goth track. I’m the same Randy, I pick everything I see from Siouxsie. Juju is my favourite album. I only have 2 Saints, I cd and 1 vinyl. But apparently a lot of the early stuff has now been re-issued on music for vinyl, so hoping to see more of their stuff available now. I certainly going through a bumper Clash time but they are my favourites. Mike

Hi Michael, funnily enough Siouxsie’s early albums are easy to find in the UK, but her later ones more difficult. My favourite is Juju, but my newly acquired Peepshow is certainly a grower. Thanks Michael. Mike

Thanks King Gary, as you say ‘it’s The Police’ what’s not to like. It’s not my favourite either, but they are superb quality boxsets. The two coloured vinyl option looks great but check how many live tracks there are on those because I don’t know, same with the two cd’s. Live tracks do tend to be mixed in with various studio takes. At 12 I think I was still a member of the record of the month club? So blame them! They did send me Ghost in the machine, so I actually had one of their albums. But I don’t think records from those clubs counted towards sales anyhow.

Thanks Brian for kind words. I totally agree with you, Murder for Mother would have made this a really great album without a weak track. The price I’ve noticed is already dropping in UK, but there is a lot of repetition of songs, although variants, so not for everybody. Mike

I think it’s a good call K to stick with original. These boxsets are superb, but unless it’s one of your favourites you can be overwhelmed with multiple takes of the same song. I’m definitely a saddo who likes this sort of thing, but you need to be selective. Mother…..shocking track that brings the album down imho. I haven’t read Andy’s book but I will now, thanks for the heads up. Mike

I completely agree with everything you said Mike. I love Outlandos and consider it a great punk album. I think you’re right about the snobbery. I’m up and down on Sting’s solo stuff. I think he goes from brilliant to self indulgent jazzy nonsense. But very clever as were the Police. Mike

Hi Lloyd, to be honest I think you need to really love it to justify buying the boxset. There are multiple takes of the same songs, so you really need to love these songs to justify. Good call. The only time recently where something has been taken out of a box is the Neutral Milk Hotel boxset. My wife loves some of that artwork and wanted to frame it, I resisted it for a while, but lost the battle! Mike

@@pc31thevinylpoliceman Other days it’s Vol. 4. Sabotage is one I think I take for granted because whenever I hear it I’m blown away & for some reason surprised at how great it is. Do you have albums like that? When you kinda think yeah of course it’s good, but when you put it on it’s actually even better than you regard it in your head. I’m not sure if that will make sense. Strangely I have a soft spot for Technical Ecstasy too.

@@pc31thevinylpoliceman I saw him once with PG in 82. (When I saw PG in 80, unfortunately he had John Giblin on bass.) But I saw TL with Crimson 7 times. Twice in 81, then 82, 95, 96, 2015, 2018. In Utrecht, 12-10-81 (two weeks after Discipline had been released), I was standing right in front of him at the edge of the stage. Still struggling to get my head around the Chapman Stick... RF has implied more than once TL is the best musician as musician ever to play in KC, and I tend to agree with him. You can drop Tony in any conceivable musical context and he will contribute something of value and never get in the way of others. Stunning musician.
