How I teach beginners to hold the bow for violin and fiddle
Great job. Nice playing.
I really want to learn from you! However, as a new violinist I find that you are jumping too fast in your instruction. I would love an explicit break down of what notes you are playing. Also, I see you put in some vibrato. It would be great if you paused for a moment to explain how you did it. This song uses the E string heavily, which is hard to master. Could you please give out suggestions on how to make it less squeaky? I know this is a lot, but this is video one. More time could be used to help beginners if you felt so inclined 🙂
These are just the listening and practice along videos. Tutorials and slow learning videos will be added throughout the summer challenge.
Thank you Jacie. My name is Evan, and i'm from Franklin County Washington, and i fiddle for over 10 years. My next song i wanna learn is Shady Grove, and wanted to play like Mark O'Connor.
Shady Grove is a great tune. Good luck learning the tune!
@@JacieSites Do you have sheet music so I can try??
3:11 I am now gonna play this part!
Good Luck
Thanks! It would be great if you could share the guitar chords with us. There is a "pop-up" that says the sheet music is on your site, but I can't seem to find it anywhere?
The sheet music was available in iFiddle magazine but I'm not sure if the issue is still up.
crazy cool!
Thanks so much!
Hi, I heard a lot of of other fiddler's on CZcams play Chinquapin Hunting ,but it doesn't sound like the one you play,Yours' sounds prettier. Is the one you play by Bruce Molsky?
The one I play is by Joe Sites who worked it out with his fiddle teacher Benny Thomasson.
Love your style of teaching. I will watch this over and over .Thank you, for this video.
This girl is absolutely remarkable.
Thanks so much!
Awesome
Brilliant. That's a fiddler at the top of her game. I like how you're able to change styles without compromising relevant technique. Good luck!
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.
Love the B-part to this song. Just wanted to say that there are 2 completely different versions of this tune. The other tune is in A (usually).
Thanks, I like the other version as well! It is completely different in some ways.
Very nice. I didn't know you did classical work as well. I enjoyed the end... I Don't Love Nobody.
Thanks. I have a degree in cello/violin music but I love fiddle the most!
Great video. The guitar could be just a little quieter, please. :)
Great video, you are awesome! ♥Loved it!!

Cool
I had a test and i did good : )
Very pretty tune! I would love to learn this!
Jaclyn, you are absolutely delicious! Thanks so much for these videos, you're the best teacher ever. This really helped me get the bow hold. You're beautiful!!! Thank you
Thank you!
"Texas fiddlingcame into its own by the early 1960s and was represented by such prime movers as Benny Thomasson, Major Franklin, Lewis Franklin, Orville Burns, , and Norman and Vernon Solomon. These are all familiar names in Texas fiddling but the one that is most recognized as the main force behind the style today, is that of Thomasson. 15 Thomasson was indeed, the main Texas-style influence fo of Texas fiddlers. Smokey Butler once said that, "Ever body wanted to play like ole Benny."
Thanks for everything!
Is the sheet music still available somewhere? It appears that your site has changed a lot since you posted this. Thanks! Love the lessons!
Thanks. I am working on reposting this music.
Great guys... Hey why do you suppose so many play this with the A section in E minor (all G naturals), while others like Luke Price sharp the G's. Seems to me the beauty is in the juxtaposition of major and minor... kind of like blues. Playing all E minor loses something for me. Which way do you think is most authentic?
I like to play it in major. I think it's really a fiddle contest thing. Rarely played in em at contests except just for fun. Some players kind of mix the two together.
Jean, The mandolin player is playing Forked Deer then the fiddles play a tune called Gin Rickshaw followed by the more common Fishers Hornpipe.
Hi. What tune is being played?
Gin Rickshaw I believe.
What tune is this? Some parts sound familiar but don't remember the name!
great tune....great musicians!
amzing!!!!!! very usefull
What fiddle tune were you playing towards the end? Great video!
haha, oh no it's so sweet sounding -you should totally be a singer! Besides you know intimately everything about dynamics and inflection on a very high level from your violin mastery! PS one night i watched quite a few of your competition videos-so nice! Also, very warm feeling coming from presence & playing of the older man supporting you on guitar!
this is why I'm not a singer.
It's Called the Last Waltz
what is the name of the waltz?
simply beautiful ^,^
i love the way it sounds, thankyou for uploading ^,^
Such beautiful bluesey melody! those who learn it should compulsary know the blues scales! i was just playing onthe G minr blues on the guitar :P ps also you have real nicely felt expressive dynamics when you play!!
