satisfying to see a video that gets Star Wars
That little montage of villains with that music behind it at like 0:20 is so cool to me for some reason. Especially “were you in love with her, Beast?”.
I know this was posted two years ago but the last sentences of this video essay were beautiful. Thanks for that.
4:55 OMG IT’S GLUB SHITTO 😂
“The Antidote Trilogy” I thought was gonna get shortened to “The Tragedy” or just “Tragedy” 😂
I’m still surprised people didn’t like the prequels. Since I grew up on it I guess thats why I like it the most probably.
the one thing ppl love to shit on "is how bad the dialogue is, how bad the actors were and how stiff they felt" but they seem to forget, ITS ON PURPOSE, anakin is a shy but arrogant kid who doesnt know how to socialize for fun. So he meets a princess whos been nothing but politics all her life meets a religious warrior and they are all going off their childhood crushes. this same actor who is stiff and wooded both movies pulled out the last scene on mustafar "bad actors" my ass lmfao they just dont understand it was by design
I was listening to Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero" spliced with Luke saving Grogu. I immediately remembered this video. I named my son after Luke. Thank you for encapsulating why I love him so much.
5:27 that did not age well
You earned my subscription with the forrest gump reference. Thank you sir.
I think episode nine was as good as it could have been. Johnson derailed the plot and killed the villain, leaving jj little choice
I’m thinking it doesn’t make a lot of sense to reference the prequels, since it’s not like 4-6 referenced the prequels much either. It’s just that the prequels generation is now coming of age and still anchors their Star Wars experience to the hating sand trilogy.
Star Wars ended when Lucas sold the franchise. You will not change my mind.
Episode seven is still really good
Probably the 20th time I’ve come back, and it gets me every time (crying)
After waiting so much time after this i realized that the sith almost we extinct cause of themselfs😂😂😂😂
Damn this channel is genius. Really spot on why Star Wars is the most epic movie-series ever, despite its "flaws". From 8:03 forwards goosebumps all over.
This is the greatest summary of SW ever.
At least now i can say more confidently that i like the prequels.
This comment is from my childhood self. Tiny bit of background, I was too young to remember seeing SW for the first time and was too young to see Empire at the cinemas but I do remember my parents announcing they had rented it on Betamax and I was hyped. Loved the film and it was better than SW but the ending left me disappointed that the good guys didn't win thus resulting in it being my least favourite of the 3.
Tbf it wasn't just George, Johns score was just bad ass. ILM sound effects screaming tie fighters, the hum of the light saber, laser blasts. Just all absolute perfection and it showed with its crowds who watched the movies. I will bet history will show long from now that SW is the illiad of our time.
Ian killed it as Palpatine. Pity the writing didn't do him the justice deserved.
I love Star Wars 8 so much, I got the chills just by seeing your first frame of the trailer
“Its like drugs” -
The ending of this video may be the most beautiful thing I’ve heard
Say what you will, I really really thought the 1st* of the sequels was going somewhere. *2015
1st sign of the dreaded Emperor, a quick sequence on board Vader's Star Destroyer.
9:40 and thats why i still argue to this day the TLJ is the best out of the sequels. TFA was anti star wars at its core and if you grew up with the prequels you noticed that immediately. Hence why i appreciate TLJ attempt even if it didnt stick the landing. The rest are absolute made by committee trash.
The prequels were objectively better than this and they could've learnt from them.
Lifelong Star Wars fan born in 83 (the start of the dark times). The phantom menace is my least favourite Star Wars project ever and it’s not a close race. I unironically love eps 2 and 3 because the half of the movies that are utter shit delight me just as much as the other half that is genuinely wonderful. They are not good examples of filmmaking or filmcraft. The OT is wonderful, nuff said. The sequels are like the Jurassic World trilogy, serviceable made-to-please blockbusters that fall flat in many respects and come across like cut paste nostalgia traps. My primary fandom has and always will be the books since the early 90s and that will never change
It's funny Disney spent all that money to try and fix Star Wars because they hated the Prequels. But no one is ever gonna remember the Sequel Trilogy like they remember the Prequels or the OT 😂
Too bad about the worst character assassination in cinematic history.
Feel somewhat gaslit by this video. "The issue people had with the prequels' effects was just marketing," come on. We all see the ridiculous over-CGI. We all see characters having pointless conversations about nothing in front of giant greenscreens where they can't physically interact with their environments, we all see the CGI clone troopers in shots where they obviously should have been guys in costumes. "The prequels conveyed these ideas in a more complicated way," no they didn't, the fanfiction you wrote in your head based off these movies had those ideas, the films themselves are fundamentally uninterested in ideas, themes or characters, and that's obvious to anyone with the saint-like patience to sit through them
Fuck Disney. If they pulled off that trilogy. They could have a few more million fans of the franchise and company as a whole. Now I'm jaded, by Disney and it's other properties, marcel, lucasfilm. I'm too tired now.
We have some pretty good comparisons now, seeing how other writers do Star Wars. George Lucas is a GOD compared to what we're seeing lately.
It's still trash
Nonsense is not better than nonsense
This is a really complicated way to way they suck bad
I love how if they tried to stick to one path, at least there would be some people who would appreciate it. But they made such a mess of it by retconning TLJ in its entirety. They tried to please the people who hated it, but ended up botching that as well. And what we ended up getting in Episode 9 is just Avengers Endgame:Star Wars version. Rey hearing everyone's voices is so fanfiction-like its sad. Rey, Finn, Kylo all had potential.
that ending edit was more entertaining and emotionally evoking than the entire....not-anti-untrilogy not sure how I hadn't found this channel and video until now but good god I'm glad I did
nah
1:30 maybe they didn't watch star wars
Man I love the way you make me think, genuinely an impressive soul. I hope you’re okay
What happened to bro bro
It's quite funny how everyone hates Johnson for making the only interesting Luke Skywalker ever
From Disney’s perspective, this was a huge success. They all made loads of 💰. Us fools paid them for this garbage.
Movie: Star Wars: The For……. Box Office: 2 billion dollars
I really wish I could say that the ST upset me or that I found it controversial or anythigng, that would at least give me some strong feelings about it. I wasn't in the "They destroyed SW" conference, SW, the OT and the PT, it's all still there and I can still enjoy it when I see it. I realized, the ST just simply bored the hell out of me. While I could watch TFA - even tough it left me with a dull feeling afterwards - I had a hard time sitting through TLJ and TOS without looking at the clock all the time. They just failed to get me invested I guess.
a ton of people always gloss over how mutch reimagining was done with the prequel trilogy, for how mutch people grew to hate it, it had it's very interesting elements and threads, not to talk about the amazing de evoluted designs that started from a supposed advanced version to a slicker, more experimental one (jedi fighter/venator to tie fighter/star destroyer) while the sequels did litterally nothing but beef up empire stuff, with no significant alteration whatsoever
Id rather watch 9 hours of jar jar then the sequal trilogy.
This was actually a really good video essay
