Can Intracranial Hypertension Fluctuate to Where It Is Missed In Diagnosis? #pots #dysautonomia
Intracranial hypertension can indeed fluctuate, making it challenging to diagnose at times. Optic nerve head evaluation and optical coherence tomography (OCT) can detect chronic changes like optic disc edema, which may persist even if the intracranial pressure (ICP) fluctuates. Lumbar puncture (LP) provides a snapshot measurement of the ICP at that specific time. If the ICP is fluctuating, an LP may miss elevated pressures.
Fluctuating ICP suggests there may be an issue with the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) drainage pathways, such as venous outflow obstruction in the internal jugular veins or other vascular structures. Imaging tests like CT/MR venography can evaluate for structural causes obstructing CSF outflow and leading to intermittent ICP elevations.

Why Do I Get Tachycardia Lying Down? #pots #dysautonomia #braininjury #neurology #keiserclinic
zhlédnutí 208Před 4 hodinami
Three main reasons why people may experience tachycardia (rapid heart rate) when lying down: 1. Mechanical irritation of the heart, such as compression from a large meal, inflammation in the stomach, or irritation of the vagus nerve. 2. Changes in neurological receptors: • Vestibular activity changes when lying down can trigger dizziness and tachycardia. • Inaccurate baroreceptor activity (sens...
Is POTS an Issue of Low Blood Volume? #dysautonomia #pots #headinjury #concussion #keiserclinic
zhlédnutí 313Před 16 hodinami
The traditional view of dysautonomia was it was caused by low blood volume. This is where the idea of increasing blood volume through methods like compression stockings and drinking salt water came from. However, this may not be the actual issue. The body has mechanisms to tightly regulate blood volume within a 1% range by signaling the kidneys and blood vessels. It is unlikely that blood volum...

Not really about the video but I wonder if you could talk about advocating for yourself at the Dr? I know I'm a complex case but the longer things go the worse things have gotten even up to hospitalization.. I have cried and begged for help for help and was recently drugged and stuff, I can't even say it, and my Dr just did a little chuckle and smiled as i was holding my face in a bag because I couldn't shake wanting to vomit.. Just an example of one visit..

I can stick both of my legs behind my head at the same time. I can make myself sneeze anytime by simply adjusting the lights. I was also tested for a study because I have a strange ability to drain electricity when in a bad mood or energize things when in a positive mood (to put it simply). (While it sounds interesting, I consider this useless because I can't own a watch, my electronics drain easily, can't change my own light bulb, blow out my vacuums quickly, just threw out another tv, etc.)

This has happened to me - if any of you are familiar with Scopolamine patches (prescribed as an anti nausea medication in patch form that you place directly on the skin behind your ear), you know that you are supposed to thoroughly wash your hands after administering the patch.. well, I had plans to travel via airplane (I get very motion sick) and placed the Scope patch on after I’d applied moisturizer and it didn’t stick to my skin very well and I had to reapply it. I must have gotten some of the residue in/around my eye after adjusting the patch and this ended up happened to my pupils.. I went to the ER and did some testing but when I mentioned that I’d worn a patch for anti nausea, they said it could very well be the reason for my pupils being different sizes. Ended up seeing my optometrist, and he felt confident that was what was going on. It went away, thank goodness, but those ER/doctor visits were not cheap. I hope this helps someone somehow!! 💛
