Has it really been that long? 55 Years? Though not as popular or influential as other cartoons (I'm looking at you, "Scooby Doo,") "Here Comes the Grump" has had a small but steady "Cult Following," and in 2018, we actually got a movie based on the cartoon complete with an "Origin Story" and how Terry Dexter came to Gladland. Not too bad, if you ask me. This is also the first time (that I can recall) hearing this song, which came out the same year as HCTG; making it a very appropriate choice on that point, alone. Thanks for posting this, Francis! And have a safe and happy Labor Day! 1st Like.

Perfect song for both Daphne and Princess Dawn. In the 1966- 1967 movie "You're A Big Boy Now", this song was a discoteque scene and was dedicated to a woman named Barbara. On the album cover, the song is subtitled "Barbara's Theme." Arrangement and orchestral conducting on the song is by Artie Schoreck.

The song was a Top 40 hit in 1958, eleven years before "Scooby Doo" ever debuted on TV. Amazing that Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote this one compared to their later romantic classics from the 1960's and 70's. R.I.P., Burt & Hal, two great songwriters.

This is a great video of lovely Daphne (the original 1969 version.) Ironically, the only Monkee that The Mystery Machine Gang ever worked with was Davy Jones in a 1972 "Scooby's Mystery Movies" series and that was animated two years after the Monkees originally disbanded in 1970. Davy even got to provide his own voiceover.

@@bender1958 Micky Dolenz, who sang lead on "Take A Giant Step" was never on an episode of "Scooby Doo", but he did do voiceovers for Hanna-Barbera in the 1970's. Listen for his distinctive voice in cartoons "The Funky Phantom" (1971), "Goober & The Ghost Chasers" (1973), "Devlin" (1974), and "Clue Club" (1976.) He probably was in a couple of others, but I can't quite remember them at the moment.

Splendid Harrisong (as his publishing company would say) turned into a cool Scoobyfication, right down to Josie and The Pussycats' cameo! Thank you, Francis.

This song is one year older than I am, and I think this is the first time I heard it in over half a century. Even then, that was during the movie credits. They rarely played this on the radio; even at Halloween. It really does fit the Scooby Doo vibe, perfectly! Thanks, Francis! 2nd Like.

Thank you Mark. Glad you enjoyed it. Fun fact: the Scooby Doo episode "Nowhere to Hyde" has a reference to The Blob.
