Bro for rap vocals, lf l want to track with a Distressor plugin, what settings would you recommend for me? l have a AKG C214 with a SSL2 interface only no gear.

I have a 2A-KT that was modded by Revive Audio with a full circuit upgrade that would throw things into different territory compared to this video. But my main observation in this comparison was how responsive the preemphasis knob was on the Audio scape compressor!

I had Avalon 20 years ago, never liked it. It was clear and transparent, no saturation, no grit, compressor slow, clean, transparent, actually I hated it. Probably a stupid kid expecting something unrealistic, but even today I do not see the point in having an expensive valve channel strip with zero character while you can get this clean, characterless sounds from your regular interface preamps. Maybe 30 years ago, but today not really.

Someone rapping into a mike, however talented he or she may be, is not a good way to hear the subtle differences of sound quality for such microphones (although one can hear a very slight difference - I chose B without looking). It's like asking a hundred metres specialist to run a marathon, they can do it, but that is not what they are best at.

Our stories are so much alike and it definitely helped me to hear this. Im 32 years old started rapping at 18 and even tho i put out a couple songs i had way more potential, everyone supported me my entire 20’s and the time just got away from me. I decided right when covid started to build my own studio and i had to learned how to engineer my own music and what i didn’t expect was how much more of a critic i would become. I was sitting on over 1000 songs but lost so many/ deleted so many im down to a few hundred and still making songs and not finishing it thru the mixes. As far as gear i run it all thru an Apollo twin x quad interface, my pre is a bae1073 and for mics I been thru an akg414, u87, AT4060a, lauten eden and now after taking some time off im back & i ordered a lauten atlantis . Ive officially made everything an issue down to my room. “Which is now treated gik acoustics”. I have spent over 20k on buying and selling different equipment thinking it was my gear. I quit a few times, came back , so much mental warfare but its just me overthinking my talent constantly and i wasted my youth doing it as now im 32 wondering how i have been doing this so long but im not where i saw myself. I lost the love with all the overachieving and overthinking. As much as i am now feeling im too old i have not gave up yet. Cuz i know Its just all in our head. Stay strong G

I tried out both EVO 4 and Scarlett 2i2, but the gen 4. Gen 4 2i2 sounds brighter and better for vocals and guitar imo.

Which is better for rap vocals in your opinion c414xii or tlm 103?

Have you tried XLR output in that Art preamp ? By looking the specifications that output should work even better than the 1/4" output which is also unbalanced. Btw. I am using the "original" Art Tube MP preamp where I have to keep my output gain as low as possible to prevent tube humm. I think this Studio version may work better in home studio applications.

Barefoot seems like a scam to me. Their footprint 01 is only 35 pounds at the price of 4500US? Let me see if I get this right - uses very nearfield based 35 dollar 4 inch aluminum cone Dayton RS-100-4 woofer and ok sort of sounding 20 dollar Peerless by Tymphany XT25SC90-04 1" Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter and a total weight of only 35 lbs with all drivers, enclosure and amps. Sounds 35 pounds sounds very sketch for 4.5G. Also has a bass gimmick for small rooms using dual firing bass woofers always being high level base even at low volumes but losing depth and output at high volumes relative to the other frequencies, I don't know what kind of scam that is but you can get a very state of the art ultra high headroom power Adam S3V for much less than the price of that barefoot hoax. Someone on audioscience review did a test on the footprint 01, found sketchy test results that raised some eyebrows and tossed red flags all over the field, and hence saved people lots of money. Adam S3V is double the weight too and Adam makes their own honeycomb woofers, dome woofers and AMT ribbon tweeters and is 2/3rd of the price.

The difference is clear. I was able to guess the sound sample A and B correctly because the TLM 103 is very sharp and harsh, while the TLM 49 sound was fuller and warmer. I own a TLM 103 and soon I will be purchasing a TLM 49

so you sent your favourite monitors back because of issues other people were having with them? that makes no sense at all to me. Barefoot are a very reputable company and will sort the issue usually for free! I know a few folks who have them with no issues at all
