    WIll you reinforce the sistering of the joist with screws? The nails overtime are not the most stable or supportive. Screws may be a bit better overtime!

    Hello, first of all thank you so much for making this video, it is really helpful in my own DIY floor renovation. A question regarding the sleepers going over the joists. Is there a benefit from reducing the spacing between the sleepers? The spacing in the video is about every 4 planks - meaning that every fourth plank will be load-bearing. Does it make sense to reduce the spacing between them? For example to put a sleeper on every second plank? This should transfer the load two more planks underneath and other than the increased cost it should be fine to do that? thanks

    • @RundownReborn
      @RundownReborn Před 6 dny

      The spacing is based on the sheet plywood above, about 16” on center. The “planks” or floorboards are not load bearing… they transfer their load to the structural floor joists below them

    Won't the floor continue to sag from bad joists if you don't fix the underlying cause?

    • @RundownReborn
      @RundownReborn Před 6 dny

      Yes, but my floor wasn’t sagging, it was tilted due to foundation settling. That was fixed prior to me buying the property.

    @rundownReborn i'm an idiot when it comes to handy man stuff, so I got a zinger of a question for you. If the original wood flooring creaks and makes noises when you step on it should that be repaired first before moving on with installation of the ribs, or will the new ribs and plyboard eliminate it? Intuitively I want to say it should be repaired first.

    • @brycemullins9670
      @brycemullins9670 Před 22 dny

      I want to add, if the basement has a joist that is kinda cracked, and could use a floor jack to bring it up, is it worth it to wait months for the basement joist to re-level before doing this?

    • @RundownReborn
      @RundownReborn Před 6 dny

      Floor creaks are from loose nails moving up and down. Add a screw and glue to stop it and remove the squeaky nail. For a jacked floor, after you raise it, add a sister joist to lock it into place and stiffen it. The overlaid deck will also help in stiffening the floor

    Moisture from the ground is absorbed in the cinder blocks, and then transferred in the subfloor. All that new wood that you used will rot. Even if it's treated wood. You should have used sill between cinder blocks and wood.

      @@RundownReborn It's an open crawl space. Florida Cracker style home built in the 50's on concrete pillars. Only way to drain away rain water would be with a submersible pump system, as ALL of the property around me is graded higher than myself and we have no drainage on our street. On a hard rain there might be maybe inches of standing water under the house, in my front yard, and back yard, for a few hours until it drains down into the ground.
