im 43... i grew up with ever single console since pong (and i always had a pc) well more than me me and my brother, so his consoles where mine too. For me gaming never changed... as long as the game is fun i feel the same yes.. im not abble to play the same amount of games as before, and im not abble to actually do a 100% completition un all games due to less time. but games feel the very same for me what changed is the dificulty of games, but before game where short, so now devs specialize in making the games less frustating (but not exactly easier) you are playing a game for 17hours.... you die A LOT in that game, but since "old" ppl is used to "you die you start over" they say now its easier.... and less enjoyable (but you cannot make gamers loose and start over 14 hours of gameplay again) and you cannot have someone lost for several hours because they will loose interest if its a long game (hence the waypoints) problem for most is... games CHANGED in style cuz they changed in lenght, and now are focused on story (which is something that before was not that possible due to cartridge space) for me a good game will always give me a good experience, all that is need for that is do not "compare" the wrong things to previous things. also i absolutly hate MP... i do not play any mp game as i feel those like a total time loss... i like to follow stories, not doing the very same all the time. so competitive is something that eludes me 100% the only MP games i play are fighting games (cuz its fun to play against others more than play against the cpu) , but im NOT into pro playing... unless its a MP story based game in which you coop with others... i wont play it (examply i absolutly hate moba , fortnite etc)

Motion controls definitely have their place but the WII was so proud of them they tried to implement them in every way imaginable in almost every game to make a point. This made for alot of shitty games. The Wii U and Switch did a much better job of knowing when and when not to use motion.

Naive gamers support scummy studios in the hopes that their loyalty will be repaid. No company is or will ever be your friend. You are a means to an end for them. Nothing more. They will never care about you. They only care about your money. Companies have ever only had a singular goal and that is to make profit. It is the sole reason for the existence of a company, so when people act like they are taken aback by something fulfilling its purpose, it just shows how willfully ignorant people have become. Companies do not have virtues, morals, or emotions.

I'm a '95 kid, my first console was a Gameboy Advanced, then a GameCube as a present/reward for learning to read(I was slow as hell learning to read so I did a summer learning thing), then a PS2 which I quickly sold when all my friends were playing online games on Xbox 360 around 2007(I think maybe '08), once I got into high school I built my first PC and never looked back, and these days I've accumulated a bunch of older consoles I've modded to totally "legally" play games on. But I think for me personally I feel like my Steam library gets me super indecisive and I wind up just getting anxious about what to play and don't play anything...

gaming died the moment microtransactions took over and when gaming engines became universally available allowing devs to just copy paste the same assets as each other killing off unique styles and custom assets, so they also copycat game ideas but only different just enough to avoid a copyright lawsuit.

Gaming died around 2017 right before covid. battle passes, in-game stores, safe-space moderation, and everybody copy-pasting Battle Royal as the game genre when Fortnite n pubg blew up. cod went futuristic spamming battlepass, battle royal, special abilities. overwatch began copypasting heroes. nothing is creative anymore, all copy pasted assets, or overly cinematic now. games are 2x the price, half the polish story/campaign games are mostly dead still

I actually had M&Ms Kart Racers as a kid that my dad surprised me with one day. I vividly remember how absolutely AWFUL the controls were, they were either too responsive or not responsible at all, there was no in between. I felt bad when i told my dad i didn't like it but i think he understood lmao

I also feel like the reason. Competitive games are more frustrating contributes to the fact that we actually played outside too. Like yeah we may have spent a lot of hours playing games but most of them at least for me were sneaking around at night when everyone was sleep. Kids nowadays are getting phones and game systems at 3 and just play the game nothing else all day every day.

I’m 18. I was kind of in the same position as you where I grew up in the era of the Xbox 360 but was poor so I played older games and played the 360 at like my cousins house and stuff. I definitely think it changed when micro transactions and battle passes became a thing. I still enjoy story games for the most part these days but multiplayer games has kind of lost it

this reminds me of a video by Rerez, about a game called "Wii Music". it's supposed to be a "guitar hero" type game, but it's really crappy. the "game" part doesn't even have a proper "scoring" system, it lets you RATE YOURSELF! the player started a "Tuba" game, held down ONE note, for the entire "song", then gave himself a perfect score! oh, they also did one about "ninjabread man", and several cheap games that were IDENTICAL except for appearance!
