In virtue signalling on the internet, I find that often, the saying "every accusation is actually a confession" holds a kernel of truth. If not, then this kind of behavior is usually coming from their own internalized issues. For example, when I see "omg cis white girls [shouldn't be attracted to bandomen]," I see, "I'm a cis white girl and I have conflicted feelings being attracted to this person because I'm not sure if I'm fetishizing them or not"--even if the person is none of those three assigned categories. A lot of what it boils down to, speaking from experience as a minor who snuck into adult spaces way too often growing up, is that young people are especially prone to having trouble telling the difference between their own emotional reaction to a piece of media and the actual content of what they're reacting to. And to younger readers, that's not a judgement call against you--adults suck at it too. I hear a lot that "media literacy is dead". I don't think that's necessarily the case here. I think the information age has made so many changes to the way we live our lives, but our bodies still only have like, 128mb brains. Media literacy in the Information Age is, if anything, in its infancy. We're still figuring out how to be effectively literate in these kinds of spaces simply because the whole concept of social media is still new, and the way we engage with media has changed so much from the book and encyclopedia age. Frankly, we've discovered a new social conflict to resolve, first in ourselves and our own feelings, and then how we treat each other. As far as I can tell, these are lessons humanity will have to learn over and over again. And you know what? **That's okay.**
