The Science Behind GeoDeck on Discovery Channel
It's not possible that your green metal post would be plumb if the deck slopes 1/8 inch per foot. How do you compensate for that? You did not cover it.
What happens when bugs build nests etc in the weep holes? Does the water flow over top or does it back up and weep through the deck?
where did you get the corner molding
You guys need better engagement and a better flashing solution.
I am ready to install a deck, and I understand I have to rip the first piece. However, what happens when I get to the other end and the rip is in the middle of the hollow? How does that work or what needs to be done then?
So what tooth saw blade are you using?
Most people in the North East use G Tape on the under the deck boards and the fascia as well. Water is the enemy especially when it freezes and expands..
So you get a gray corner or edge
3 screws every 12 inches is so they can sell more screws
Getting ready to do a deck with these and they are worries about the screw going in on the angle and cracking that end channel when it expanded and contracts, they want to use a different method of screwing. Any information on this?
I brought this deck and I have the same problem with the screws. How did you do with the screws to not demage
3/16 and 3/16 is 3/8, not 3/4.
More closeups needed. Did you have color coded screws, you don’t say!
“America’s deck builder,” huh… at least you don’t give yourself a nickname based on delusions of grandeur. I’ll bet this dude’s never built a deck in his life. 🤣
Thanks. What's going to happen to the water trapped in the Duxxback decking?
Sorry, I asked a dumb question. I see how it works now.
Seems like the water is gonna run into the channel, hit that wood post and run down into the deck.
Safer to use a ball peen hammer...and som matching color elastic caulk at corner joints.
This video answers a question I've had for a while: if it's acceptable to install composite decking in a Chevron pattern with the joist at a 45 degree angle.
it is but joist would need to be 12"OC
Show me a job 7 to 10 years old.
Why not hav ethe deck board run out 3/4 inches to cover the fascia ??
You have a double band on the middle,do you put any type of tape on top of the double band?
If u allow a space for contraction at but joints, why don't u do same at corner joints?
😀 3:05 "It's not my work... it's not perfect." That's what I say about the majority of projects I hire out to "professionals" and why I'm a DIYer. I can mess it up just as good.
How do you not get a rollback with water with a gutter? Any tips
“It’s not my work, it’s not perfect “. That’s confidence it yourself
Where can I find IDEkk HD tongue and groove? Grey driftwood color, deck planks.
Can you buy outside corners for composite fascia or if not how to build them?
So is it taboo to use 8in wide facia board on a 2x8 rim joist? I heard its usually 12 in wide.
Use whatever you want. A 12" wide facia board will be good for both 10" and 12" joists. But if all you need to cover is 8"... 8" facia would be fine.
could it be installed on metal joists? what if the joists do not have any sloping?
Dont you have to leave a gap at the miters for expansion? Hot sun is going to buckle those bad boys.
Any suggestion, how to do flashing on the brick wall?
The have instructions for that but I think they took them down. The flashing is folded in to the brick mortar when cut a slot for it.
skill saw with a concrete blade and snap a line to cut, bend the flashing into the grove and calk
Thank you
Nice job
Real wood doesn't buckle like the composite crap the millennials have foisted on us!!
Real wood has it's own dimensional issues.
@@TheUltimateDeckShop It does, and has for thousands of years but that doesn't make composite garbage better or economically feasible. I caution people interested in composite decking to get the manufacturer's brochure and read every word of it. It's quite an interesting attempt to absolve themselves of the liability involved in installing it and should serve as a warning especially to DIYers!!
@@jackriley5974 Sounds like you have a bias, and that's fine. But that doesn't mean composites are garbage just because you prefer wood. If you're concerned about install warranty, use Deckorators MBC lines. They provide a 25 year removal and replacement warranty regardless of who installed it. But not warranting install work isn't an uncommon thing. They still warranty the product regardless of who installs it. Car manufacturers won't warranty your labour for work you do on your car, furniture manufacturers don't comp your time to replace a couch if it's faulty, etc, etc. Install warranties are rare in any industry. But again, look at Deckorators...they DO provide an install warranty. Prorated obviously.
An old video about a total garbage piece of product
Thinking about it. What's wrong with it?
@@58gennaroMy builder put this crap in. When it rains the result is puddles all over the deck, since it doesn't drain between the boards. Who ever came up with the idea of a 'tounge & groove' outdoor deck is a dunce.
@@buffal1000 I ended up using using a product called "space maker". toung and groove with a gasket . happy with it but expensive. Only needed 40 sq ft though.
In Canada we are looking at over $20 a sq. foot for this product.
$30 a square foot .... $30,000 for my deck .... seems a bit much
I ordered mine through home depot. Cost me just over 15$ a square foot
You have to factor in subfloor treatment to keep things dry- a Rock solid resin system is easily 14 $ sf installed by itself, (keeper, west coat etc) and all the trex etc systems are crap, they don’t work Maintainence headache and Ned to replacement down the road . A;tefbatuevky you cna use a flat room bituminous or Edam, but they aren’t cheal]p and what do you do when need to be replaced in 20 years max/? Rip up entire deck ? I would of course put soem g tape down on top of joists they are weak link here as with any deck
What is that thin fascia board? Cant find any that thin. Thanks
At 9:32 of the video you explain how to handle deck posts. Do you seal the groove all the way down for this plank or just near the post?
These morons really struggled to understand how a CZcams channel would work. For years and no response. Assuming contractors are on here trying to look at potentially carrying this product. They should devote as much attention to this as they would to a trade show. Perhaps more attention, given that it could last for many many years and reach far more people.
Nice video, what is the thickness of the fascia you are installing? I want to use white and everything I can find is 1" and this is going on an existing deck the thicker fascia is extending out further than the perimeter strip you mentioned. My concern is water and debris could get behind the thicker fascia. Thanks
Use Versatex. It's white, and available in 5/8" and 3/4" thicknesses.
Thanks
Do you mean to build a none-level deck surface with pitch of 1/8" per foot? It is a slope! How to comply with building code?
It's still in code. No different than ADA for sidewalks. 2% max cross slope
@@90pi548 max 1” per 1 ft but your patio table might start sliding down your deck 😂
Do you predrill the fascia?
yes you have too
With composite screws, you do not have to. But it's still recommended. Just a cleaner finish.
Gary is the best!
Price for 100 sqf roof deck
7:45, there's always using your hammer to gently tap the tip of the material together.
yes! the ole manually tapped quarter round finish.
Great video. Would love to have someone like you installing our deck.
Great info. I'm installing fascia on my deck today so I rewatched this video.
with plans from the Stodoys, doing something like that was a pleasure.
Looks like Geodeck
