As a lowly handyman/electrician with negligible carpentry skills I’m not sure I’m worthy of watching this video! I’m just getting started with my first trailer to be used for my work and workshop. A 10’ with full height and width steel frame trailer. My worst concern is weight. I’ve worked out of my Honda Odyssey since I began this path in ‘12. Seeing many different trailers, briefly viewing Ron Paulk’s work I knew his stuff was great, but far beyond my needs and abilities, I kept searching. Some were very basic and some elaborate. Seeing your version I’m not completely intimidated by the extremes of it all. The simple things like the T squares and speed squares having a crazy simpleness prompted this comment. I think my planning is finally getting some sort of path that I can work with. But having it all come together and then finding my weight exceeding my weight limits is really concerning. Here’s my only question, and it’s for anyone who has an idea. My trailer is a 6x10 single axle Dark Horse. Are the walls as built, actually built sturdily enough to rely on? At present, I have added some 1/4” plywood sheeting into each of the hollow areas along all walls. Using rolled on contact cement and stapled as needed to make sure everything was fully flat on the walls. That bolstered them up to around 1/2” thickness, and I’m currently adding an additional layer of (essentially) 1/2” plywood as well. The two front angled areas are tentatively planned to have a (12x12) grid of T-nuts (embedded) so my desire to make things potentially an option ready changeable configuration for whatever I do later. The front has been anticipated as a shelving area where a planer and other less used tools might live. Of course weight again is an important factor. So such heavy equipment hopefully will have a proper home typically. Thanks.
Why, why does everyone talk about what tools they have … talk about how you came up with the design and show how you built the drawer.. are your walls double ply thick … also where is the larger ladders?
Nice set up. The only thing i improvised was that i made a slide bar type deal with a dowel pin to lock my drills and nail guns from popping out from the bumps in various roads of travel, i got tired of hittin the job site with all my tools on the floor
I just came across this video! I just got into the handyman world and bought my 7x16 from TRT about a year ago now! Awesome place to do business! Also thanks for all of the ideas. I've spent hours on my trailer and it's no where near done but this has given me a lot of ideas.
Yeah yeah yeah give Ron a nod, why don’t you just give him a BJ. Ron Paul claims to have built 500 custom homes. He is so full of crap, the guy builds drawer boxes sawhorses for chrissake. I wouldn’t have him build me a doghouse
Yeah yeah yeah give Ron a nod, why don’t you give him a BJ. Ron Paulk claims To have built 500 custom homes. He is so full of crap. The guy builds drawer boxes and sawhorses for Christ sake. None of which ever get used. Everything is brand new. I wouldn’t have him build me a doghouse.
Yeah yeah yeah give Ron a nod, why don’t you just give him a BJ. Geez can’t anyone think for themselves? Ron Paulk has claimed to have built 500 custom homes. He is so full of crap. Why is it that every tool he has looks brand new? His trailer looks totally new unused. I wouldn’t have that guy build me a doghouse.
I like your long cabinets and your drawers they are perfect for what I’m looking for my trailer do you mind telling me where you got the blueprints to Build them they are awesome
Yes. The trailer does not have to come with me to every job. Since making this video I have bought a truck. I'll usually just take what I need for whatever jobs I might be doing that day. Larger jobs I just leave the trailer at the job... I work in a pretty safe area and it gets locked up pretty well.
Nice Set Up! Thanks for sharing and taking the time to put the video together. I think a good Alarm with GPS tracking is a good thing to add to these tool trailers. Ron had one video where he made the tongue of the trailer removable - now that's a great idea to make it hard to steal the trailer!
Well... ? What is with all of the inspired work trailer videos ? Trades people have been building and organizing their tools for hundreds of years, with shelves, drawers, etc... Or is it just U tube junk ? Tom Silva and his Brothers have shown many set ups in vans trucks trailers and in shops for decades. Hey just needed to unload . You did a very good job on your trailer set and keep up the good work and make money..
Nice job. Would love to see an update after a year on what works and what's been added. Great tip on the birch. If I ever get around to a build I'll be using that one. Thanks!
Nice. Can you show us again how you made the drawers and how they stay in place. I couldn’t tell from this video. Is there a screw on the left side that sets in a slot? I’m building out a new van and have been trying to figure out how to keep the sliding shelves and drawers in place.
Nice trailer. I happen to have both the same Ridgid Miter saw SUV and the Dewalt Table Saw stand you have. I use these because my tools stay home but need to be hauled in and out of my basement. But have you seen Ron Paulk's "Total Station"? Being a working contractor, you really should consider building one, or at the very least his "Compact 3x6 Workbench" which I have built. The total station would replace your miter saw stand, table saw stand, and that workmate workbench. If my tools lived only in the trailer or on the job site I'd build one. I don't think you'd regret it. Just saying...check it out!
Thanks Frank. Most everything I built in this trailer is off Paulks plans. I use the stands for my table and miter saws because I often have to set up far from where my trailer is parked. My jobs are usually in/out in one day too. Rolling carts are easier and quicker.
Great trailer! I would add a coffee pot, microwave, toaster oven and a cooler for ice, water and drinks. It looks like the tools are covered but a man has got to eat. It looks like it would be a pleasure to work out of.
Don't feel bad man, I live near the largest marine base in the country, Camp Lejeune. Not only do we get helicopters but we have jets and osprey. I can also hear them shooting machine guns and they do bombing practice on a regular basis. You should be thankful you only have helicopters LOL. nice trailer btw.
I would not want to mislead with a guess. I never had it weighed after the build, neither before or after loading in tools. I would have if I knew of a scale near me.
Ron Paulk 🤟
How did you attach the 2x4s to the frame?

Thanks for sharing your trailer build! .... A lot of great ideas, many that I will duplicate.
Hey Joe, great setup. How is it working out now 4 years later? Thanks, Ron
...dolphin dive high five...

Nice work! Got an update?

Where do I get the Ron Paulk plans for a tool trailer build.
ah . . . umm . . . ah . . . ah. No need to say 'ah' at the end of every other sentence, that's what periods are for.

Good looking trailer. I'm beginning to build mine out for handyman business. How did you fasten the workbench to the side of the trailer? Thanks.
Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh........
Nice

Very Nice Job! Thanks for sharing! Inspired me!
Do you think you could be a handyman without one? Would it just be more hassle and less organization?
Yes. The trailer does not have to come with me to every job. Since making this video I have bought a truck. I'll usually just take what I need for whatever jobs I might be doing that day. nice job man. looks great.
Ah, ah, ah
great build i love the idea for holding the table saw.

Any idea on the weight?
Last weigh-in was 5,200. I also had four 4x8 1/2-in sheets of rock in it at the time.
👍
Nice, i got the exact same trailer from the same place.
Why not bypass the ballast on all the lights you put led in
Getting there... Really would not have needed it yet.
You could flip the table saw and miter saw and then you could lower your shelf in the front. Great video.
I needed that height space regardless.
Nice job. Would love to see an update after a year on what works and what's been added. Great tip on the birch. If I ever get around to a build I'll be using that one. Thanks!
Great buildout and effort toward better organization! Awesome job man!

Zzz.
I appreciate the organization, but by adding cabinets and drawers, you actually limit your ability and versatility.
Very nice. Great ideas, thanks
Well done Joe!
Very nice!! Thanks for sharing. You have helped me tremendously!!
Drinking game, take a drink for every “uuhhhhhhh”...........nice trailer though.
Holy shit I’m already drunk 1 Minute into it
Love it but I will be the UHHH guy lol Good Job
That’s a good looking trailer. Good work
I'm just starting the process of building out the same size trailer. How wide is your walkway? Nice build out!
If I remember to I'll give it a tape next time I open it up. I'm pretty sure it was 32" though.
Thanks

uhhhhhh counter lol jk Great Set Up uhhhhhh
MkI2
Great vid but why so looooong?
Great trailer! I would add a coffee pot, microwave, toaster oven and a cooler for ice, water and drinks. It looks like the tools are covered but a man has got to eat. It looks like it would be a pleasure to work out of.
I've done work out in the county where nearest anything is 30min drive, def would be nice to have atleast a microwave for those kind of jobs.

Hey Joe, Sweet build, I like the simple practicality of your thinking... that's my vibe too. Any idea how much she weight you've added?
I would not want to mislead with a guess. I never had it weighed after the build, neither before or after loading in tools. I would have if I knew of a scale near me.
