Admittedly I have not played this game so I apologize if it seems like I'm talking off my butt here, but I do feel like from what I've seen there could have been more done to really fit that Lovecraftian horror feel. part of it could be the combat and leveling, i feel like if the experience threshold got higher and higher it probably would have fixed things a bit, they also do think that as a story it could have used more tension and unease, I'm not sure how exactly it could have been done, but I feel like once you're popping a cap in the ass of a deep one and fighting a an elder God, some of that tension just dissipates, like one should not easily charged at something like Yog-Sototh head first with a blicky in hand.

I own the HD Collection for both PS3 and Xbox via 360 backwards compatability on the Xbox Series X. I only bought the Master Collection so I could mod them to make them better. I have played all the games on PS3(minus the 2D MSX titles Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake), even played a bit of Portable Ops on my Vita so I knew what I was getting into. I am hella content, I got MGS on my ROG ALLY!!! :D

Master collection is not a 1 to 1 port as it was on original hardware. If it were and if it were $30 then I would actually love that, but its not.

Oh man, I have terrible news regarding Penny Blood. The project isn't dead, but the devs are struggling to find investors and it seems they are pretty much out of money at this point.

Man, I would love to see the Parasite Eve and the OG Crash Bandicoot games brought to modern systems, emulation or otherwise. I wouldn't mind the option of smoothed out graphics, but that's just me.

i think crow is the right one because the name is in katakana, which is used for non-japanese names/words. otherwise, it would be written in kanji or hiragana

I can’t help but feel like if today’s programmers worked on this game with the ps1 hardware that they could get a higher frame rate and better models. Part of the problem with these older 3d games is that they just didn’t have experience with the new code

The fact this has a bad rating that rivals time and eternity either means its hyperbole on how bad it is or its truly a dumpster fire. Because Neptunia also rivals how bad it a rating time and eternity is but it at least functioned where as time and eternity was half broken on top of how bad the story and gameplay was. So its hard to tell how bad this game is without actually seeing gameplay myself.

Well, this is awkward. After the second remake got rated by the ESRB, I was reminded of this video, and I randomly decided to edit my original comment from 2 years ago and elaborate a bit on the wiki plagiarism lore with an archived link of the tweet made calling out the developers... and CZcams yeeted it out of existence without warning. Guessing it didn't like the link. So here's literally just a slightly-edited repost of that very comment for posterity, minus the link. Yeah, I know, weird, but I'd like it out there given how miserable my experience was with this game and how strong my dislike of it is. Carry on. HOTD wiki admin here. Great review. Thanks for bringing up the bad localization and plagiarism--that's something that not many other reviewers have touched on. Also good analysis of the game mechanics in the original game vs. the remake's. I run the wiki Twitter and deleted the tweet we made responding to the plagiarism. A writer from IGN was DMing us asking about it, probably to write an article or something, but I just ignored it and moved on because the community manager did apologize and added us to the credits, and at that point it wasn't worth it having the drama swirl out of control. Although the tweet is archived on Internet Archive, and ironically it's used as a source on the wiki itself as the plagiarism is mentioned on the remake page. There was some obscure Thai gaming website that made an article about the plagiarism, but nothing else major, and people forgot about it pretty quickly once the game launched. However, it stung after the fact when I kept promoting the game via posts/retweets and it was extremely unpolished at launch, and had very little post-launch support. Lots of serious issues were never fixed. There weren't a lot of patches for this game and the developers pretty quickly moved on, which was disappointing but I guess not surprising. I tried to stay positive but honestly my interest in promoting the remake dwindled. I felt like I was just promoting something that wasn't really moving the series forward. The wiki does cover the remake still since it's obviously a House of the Dead game and deserves to be documented, but lately because of these prior events and my general disappointment with the game I've stopped tweeted anything remake-related and have just focused on the mainline games. Those are the most enjoyable to me, anyway, and were what really made up huge parts of my childhood. Cheers.

Maybe the reason for getting 1 star was because the channeling stone is a bonus item? Irrelevant because we've already concluded that this is impossible without artificially adjusting score via hacking on an emulator but it might be a reason.

While I share the frustration it's the inevitable result of how game publishers have abused the idea of a remaster, rerelease, & remake so much in the last 3 generations I understand why people take this stance. I think a direct port is acceptable so long as it's priced & labeled appropriately. If this game wasn't released at full retail price it wouldn't get this reaction. To support my case I recently purchased the Xbox series X ports of the Time Splitters trilogy. They are labeled appropriately not claiming to be a remaster or anything & each priced at 20 USD. I do think preservation is important but expecting the consumer to drop 80 USD on a digital copy of a ROM of Super Mario World that Nintendo will take away from them in a years time. I do think your point is correct though, the needs of game preservation & market forces\demand are not really in alignment.

Don't why anyone made a english translation mod of this game. But even without any translations, it still deliver a plot of what is happening here. They basically turned Lost into a tactical RPG, with Lovecraft put into it.

Given you hacked an "impossible" situation with the UFO ending, could you also hack an "impossible" situation from game-start using a cheat to teleport you to the Cybil boss? I assume there could be a crash or something if the game has no data on her fate, but killing her and then proceeding on to Nowhere from the start of the game could result in having less than 15 items picked up, and that could then mean you get 0 stars straight-up.
