I'll never get the Anatolians again. I got them from old middle eastern stock. They are bigger than most and don't like anyone but us and don't like new animal to well. My female killed a bobcat so easily that it bothered me because Ive been thinking what if a family matter comes and is gotten by one. They don't stand a chance. I have a boerboel, caucasian Shepherd, and a cane corso who are all imports. None of them are as fierce as the Anatolians. I don't get it. And yes, everything wants our free ranging chickens and water fowl, goats, sheep and pigs. However, the Anatolians think everything and everyone is a major threat. The others aren't like that. My boerboel and cane corso are more of pets, but are in the pasture in spring summer and fall. I have 3 no turn off switch border Collies that work the animals on the pasture year round for rotation and for the animals that are put up. The Anatolians give them a hard time once in a while. Shall I give them away and get the Great Pyrenees instead?

Please share the recipes for pine needles

My one concern is small children, I hear mixed opinions with Anatolians and small kids, I know from experience Pyrenees are great with kids, their downfall is wow that hair.

Have you tried overwinter one? It says zone 8 to 11... maybe cut one back and put a cover on it for winter 🤔

I get pine needle tea from a health shop in Dublin. Is it best to forage for the tea or is the dried looking tea still okay? For getting the benefits?

Your brave to stick with anatolians. Our farms in turkey only sticks with kangal and now shifting twords boz shepard.

Pay attention to what dog did to piggy when mama-goat was gaving burth. He protected the mama. This is what they do in the field.

The pine trees on my property are tall and have no low hanging branches. Unless I cut a tree down there is no way to get fresh green needles. 😢

How did you protect the livestock when they were puppies? I'm in a chicken and egg situation. I have coyotes out here. I want to get a flock and an anatolian shepherd, but this would be the first guard dog. How many months do you think until the dog is big enough to defend against a coyote? Did you raise the dog with the flock or did you get him first?

There’s also the local cougar population and when you get young males dispersing them more likely to take livestock. But those dogs have been bred to literally chase off everything from lions leopards brown bear hyena. So without wishing to be rude a Panther while it’s no mug a couple of those big dogs will definitely put one to Flight but it’s also a matter of saying local predators if you come here looking for a free lunch you just going to get chewed up, you’re putting a big sign on the door saying no free lunches to predators and these dogs actors the bouncers. It will be interesting to see a statistic as to how many encounters get physical compared to the amount of encounters where it’s just a lot of barking and snarling. When you’re an ambush Hunter, if the dogs know you’re about to race a ruckus then it’s over with for you. All for a bear unless they’re very very hungry it’s not worth the risk of getting injured. Coyotes unless there’s a pack of them and they’re against the group of your dogs, unless they’re sneaking the dogs to go with something which is three times their size and a hell a lot more powerful. When the return from the valley in Wyoming, they killed off about 90% of the coyote population. And this breed isn’t exactly a Chihuahua so go figure on a coyotes reaction when they see that thing.

Are they good with kids?

I love them all, Anatolians, Kangal, Akbash, Hymanna Karasi, Malaklasi, any of the LGDs. Any working dog really. Great stuff.

you should check out the himalayan sheep dog it has been protecting livestock since 2000yrs and are still protecting from leopards in the mountaind

What is the earliest age to best determine a puppy's temperament/personality? We lucked out with Shayla, our late GP/Anatolian/mix. We had her from 14 weeks to 15+ years. She was a great family pet in our suburban home. She went to puppy training for socialization, had a big fenced yard to hang out in, got walked two 1+ mile walks most days, taken to a park and a relative's farm where she was allowed to run free. She liked everyone in the family equally, was our wiener dog's best friend, and adored our grandchildren. She was dominant and resilient without ever being overtly aggressive. It's weird now that she's gone as this is the first time in 30 years, we've been dogless. I'm thinking about getting an Anatolian Pyrenees as I really like the mix but want to get one with a personality less independent and a little more people oriented than what I hear most are.

We had a telescoping flagpole before we moved. Guess I will have to do more research as ours before COULD fly flags at half mast.
