The great sword has been a favorite of mine throughout the souls series and after recently starting up elden ring and making a paladin build to use it with its easily one of the top 3 best weapons in this game with the right stats, it absolutely wipes shit.

straightfoward way to get the other version of the dragon: kill bayle, go to dragon communion AFTER THE FACT (do not interact with the priestess) and her heart will be waiting there for you

Prp tip: go to the cutout in the ramp at 0:20 and use Margit's Shackle to destroy the chariots without having to jump down. Makes navigating the area so much essier.

If you want early game runes you can farm the giant sick dragon, just sprint back to the bonfire just behind the dragon right after you kill it and sit down before you get the souls (there's plenty of time). When the stage resets you have runes and the dragon is still there. Repeat as desired.

After level 300, you have to get about 1 million runes per level. If you kill all the albinaurics once on NG+3, with your Golden Scarab Talisman and Gold pickled fowl foot, you only get like 120k runes. So you have to kill them like 9 times to level up once at this point. Not exactly a trivial method of you're trying to get to level 712...
