Thank you brother. Just found one someone was throwing away. Cleaned the carb, sharpened the blade and changed the oil. Its old but man is it satisfying to use an old 90s mower.

I did everything, but my mower still want stay crank😢 if I pour gas on the side where the filter is it cranks but then turns off shortly after. Please help

Was probably missing on one cylinder and now the carb started flooding 😢 Seems they don’t relieze it’s missing unless it’s bogging down badly

Good job troubleshooting, that’s a big mower with a great engine & ok deck package. You’d think they’d clean it up & blow it off before bringing it in, easier to work in & stays a lot cooler that way.

Still using my Briggs powered tiller that I bought new in 1976. Starts every time. Only work I ever performed on it was to convert from points to electronic ignition years ago. Never drained the gas. Only use fuel without ethanol and a little Seafoam in the fuel adding a little fresh to what is in the tank from the year before.

Nice fix again Mark! Got a customer that has a Rally tiller he still uses with that same engine, (still looks almost like new.....with a clean gas tank if you can believe that!). Worked on several of those. 👍🙂

I figured 20 years ago that the older riding lawnmower engine would be worth more than a new one and it’s fixing to get close to it in the next few years 😢😢😢 That’s why I stacked them and just pulled engine and wait 😊

I bought a 1998 yard machine black I needs a polley and smokes a little when I shut it off it turns back on for 1 second some time 21 horse vtwin Briggs and Stratton is it worth fixing could you fix 46 inch or a 42 inch

Heck yeah! You are the man! Just bought this same mower at a yard sale , it’s giving me grief running, bogging down, and the pull cord broke. While I’m changing the cord, ima clean the carb, found your video, and this makes me feel a whole lot better about goin at it. Thanks a ton!

What size did you use to remove the spark plug

I've 156 at home, was planning to put a new pot and piston on it.. I never knew what caused it to fail, but in UK pot and pistons £180, carb is gawd knows how much.. I don't know if I want to take the risk in it.. But they are great uncomplicated chainsaws.. sad efco stopped them now... Was it worth saving? All the best

Those Kohler's are notoriously garbage. Not surprised. Also, who in the right mind would want a single cylinder lawn mower these days. Sheesh

looking at my husqvarna to see were things were for future reference and could not find the regulator. now i see it is just a diode wrapped up around the wire. Seen my fuse back by solenoid wrap around the wire and a wire tie keeping in place. Cheap weird factory set up. Great video that reminded me i need a impact wrench and a ratchet wrench 3/8 for my engine cover. Gas tank gets in the way of back two bolts.

I always use two cycle oil as it helps with the carburetor not corroding.

That's usually from a leaking carb. But, I have a gas cutoff valve that I use after each use.

Hey Mark, many thanks for the thorough rebuild. I used this guide to replace a crank shaft on the same engine for my Predator Chipper. You made a daunting task look simple and made me feel confident I could tackle it on my own. I even appreciate the slow pace because it gave me an idea on the length of actual time it should take.

Start giving the tank a splash of two stroke at the end of the season. Works better than the fuel treatments. Nothing is better than ethanol free, shutting the line off and running the bowl empty though. That engine will come around. Just takes some persuasion to unstick the rings. Unless there is more to it... and there frequently is. LOL.

Did you pull the plug, to see if it was hydro-locked??

Love your video. Recently purchased this same model from a young guy who was upgrading to a zero turn. I just changed the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and battery. Having trouble finding what the GAP is for the spark plugs. I know they should already come gapped, but like to double check also. Does it matter what fuel filter you use? Do they show the direction the fuel filter should go. I bought a better quality one at Lowes unlike the small one the mower originally had. PS: mine is a 46" 20HP Hydromatic Automatic 2012. It only has one spark plug, air filter located on the side.

My John Deere deck has a double pulley. Keeps throwing the top drive belt. The one that goes to the electric P.T.O. I've changed the shaft & bushings & it still does it.
