This summary that great players come from favelas is not true. Poverty does not create anything, on the contrary, it destroys. We Brazilians know what the secret is and it is in soccer schools in every neighborhood and has nothing to do with favelas in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil is continental in size and soccer is a whitewash that goes from childhood to adulthood and aging. But it is in clubs that soccer, through children and adolescent talents, that players or ex-players, with the vision to find a good talent, a diamond to be polished, these are the first to find a good soccer player and invest in them . The investment ties the apprentice to the financial gain from selling the future soccer player's pass. Boys dream of a career as a successful soccer player and businessmen here are called SCOUTS, which translated would be a professional man who knows how to find a young soccer player with a bright future. Poverty in Brazil is not related to favelas because diverse Brazil is little known in the USA. In every city we have upper, middle and poor classes. Stating that soccer players come from favelas is STEREOTYPE. Soccer is actually Brazil's favorite sport, but there are others such as volleyball, in which Brazil has already stood out, and also other sports. But the truth is that the secret lies in the SCOUTS who make loads of money training future football players, or in the clubs that invest in young talents, aiming to make money with these players, whether through games in packed stadiums, or through the sale of your passes. In other words, in short, there is no idea that football players came from the favela. An example is Neymar, his father is his supporter. Some soccer players come from middle-class families, either because their parents support them. But, with or without support, when a young man knows that his gift is playing football, he abandons everything to live his dream. But the poor young player certainly suffers more to reach the top of several young players and stand out above the rest. I have a nephew who stands out and we are middle class, all educated and well off here in Brazil and we support our nephew's dreams, but always showing that the career is fast and that when you reach the top, do like RONALDO FENÔMENO, invest in business , real estate because here in Brazil, as in the USA, the already famous and rich young man forgets that everything is temporary and that his career is similar to a flash of lightning, time passes quickly and everything he earns he needs to have the head to invest and he must have a family with solid financial thinking so as not to end their days in absolute poverty.....

IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN, none of these players were actually raised in a favela. They certainly had humble origins, but for example Pelé and Garrincha had a "country" background, coming from small hinterland towns , not urban big cities where favelas are located. Neymar, R9 and R10 had lower middle class backgrounds and never lived in a favela. Suburban for sure, but they didnt live in a favela. Rivaldo was certainly poor, but then again, not exactly in a favela.

Yeah I was thinking about commenting this too but decided to await for tomorrow and make some search on social media about the places of those guys birth before. Ronaldinho comes from Porto Alegre, don't even know if they have a favela in there, and if they do, of Ronaldinho was born in one. Ronaldo is from Itaguai, don't know if is a favela.

@@memysurname7521 There are no favelas there, few Brazilian players come from favelas, many people have the stereotype that the whole of Brazil is a favela but it's not quite like that

Brazilian here; very good analysis in the case of football. However, I would like to make a point about how this affects Brazilian poverty because for 1 Ronaldo millions of kids simply do not make it. Considering that 55% of all players that make it in Brazil earn just the minimum wage (about 285 US$). It's an unattainable goal to become a star for the majority of these kids, and not worth it. Pursuing an education and having other safe bets it's essential for growth within the community. Football is to be celebrated but education should be the main goal. (Not to go on for hours about poverty, corruption, inequality, slavery, the Portuguese and mismanagement that ultimately have caused this.)

I also think playing on sand and beaches is a big factor. The muscles that you develop in your lower legs and feet doing this are unreal. It's why I think players from hot beachy countries generally have better control and first touch of the ball.

Brazil's success in football has nothing to do with being poor or living in favelas, but rather with how we see football as a whole, besides the fact that basically every professional player in Brazil not only plays football on the field but also played At some point in childhood and youth, futsal provides an incredible basis for playing for one, two and "scadinhas", with the addition of the player developing a great sense of working in short spaces, making dribbles and finishing plays in small spaces .
