It was a STANDARD 1199 (with Marzocchi front shocks and Sachs rear, and probably not even adjusted) vs a hand-built and factory tuned EBR. Toss in a 1199R with the Ohlins suspension and stronger engine, or even just the 1199S with the dynamic suspension, and the EBR is toast

still beating the hell out of my EBR 1190SX and the only issue ive had is the low fuel light stays on, easy fix.

I want an American built bike badly just not badly enough to accespt IFFY. Once upon a time I bought and raced IFFY my first 250cc motocross bike which I swooned over for its looks and rave reviews. It was the AJS 250cc Stormer. On paper and for a single review session it was fine but it had awful problems that never should have existed on a production motorcycle and those were kept me from enjoying my time with it and I never want to suffer that again thankyou. The moment you hear about bad sounding things on a production motorcycle? I say RUN the other direction rather than assuming you can fix what the factory apparently could not.... Also the company has to be finacnially sound and totally REEALLY dedicated enough to suffer through early years. The worst thing about an EBR is there is no Erik Buell in it...just his name

Buell and Polaris/Victory sold almost the identical amount of motorcycles during their namesake run. Something like 132,000 and change as I recall. Not all that many Buell XB series bikes were produced. The XB series engine if ridden sensibly...not lugged...serviced judiciously...and kept out of city type stop and go heat blistering conditions....ran forever. They were one of the finest motorcycle engines of the past 50 years and the design parameters and craftsmanship used during processing and building was incredible.

Still riding my 1125r today keep all those Japanese bikes all American baby!!!!

Great bike love it had 3 years no problems, going to be as good as my 1125r buell with 173,000 miles

Love my Harley. With that said, # of wins against 600cc Jap’ bikes = 0. It’s sad that these things couldn’t make it through 1 race without blowing up.

Can someone offer their two cents for my issue? 25th aniversarry edition 2008 buell xb12scg, running rich. Repalce plugs, replaced intake air temperature sensor and the battery, and still not fixed.

My XB9R turned 20 in March of this year. Still runs strong, still puts a huge grin on my face, hasn't let me down yet. As our roads start to get worse and worse locally (NW Montana) and the tourists and large animals are now flooding into the valleys where the paved roads are, riding is becoming more and more hazardous, sadly. But that being said, I still pull it out and pull the trigger and LOVE how it responds, sounds and works. I'd love to add another 8" or more of suspension for my own old chassis as the aches and pains of life are adding up slowly, but I'll not stop riding the Firebolt anytime soon. I'll be 66 soon and it's still a delight every time I fire it up. Erik, Dan, Abe, Henry and Crew did a phenomenal job on this benchmark motorcycle. Glad I bought it when it hit the showroom floor.

I have the same bike or so it looks like XB12Scg. I see we have developed the same habit, turning off the signal lights now and then even if they are not on LOL.

The EBR has better acceleration when exiting the corners. That's what I like about EBR.

Keeping my xb12r Alive! This is the Saddest business story ever. I am a former business owner and I understand "how things are" in the business world ,its rough! This by far is the saddest story such a great product with so much potential. Erik is a genius and Harley knows it.

What a shame. The whole point of Buell was a harley that sounded great but handled well. Now it’s just a less reliable Honda.

Everyone commenting seems to be biased toward the EBR, however, the Ducati wins out for me, by a wide margin. 1. The electronics are a concern, and the interface is difficult, at best. 2. The Ducati has a MUCH greater aftermarket and repair/service support. The brakes alone, are all but proprietary. 3. The brake defect is a massive red flag. The crew here had the advantage of being able to change rotors, however, wouldvyou be so fortunate in a real-world situation? Such an even can easily end a perfectly good track day, or at worst, cause a high-side crash over the bars. To me, this makes the Ducati the hands-down winner. That said, I admire EBR for thinking outside the box with things like the rim-attached rotors. I also give them props for building a quasi-Ducati class motorcycle, without the funding from a parent company like Lamborghini. If these quirks are fixed, a healthy aftermarket formed, and an availability of service shops all over the country (with no age/model limit on what they will work on (unlike Ducati), and this bike will be a great contender!

120hp to the wheel, 10.5 1/4 mile time, 3 sec 0-60mph/100kph rather
