The Kent Test is an 11 plus exam used by all 32 grammar schools in the Kent local authority. It takes place in September in Year 6. Children who pass the Kent Test are eligible for a place at a Kent grammar school in Year 7.

The Kent Test consists of paper tests supplied by GL Assessment - one of the main providers of 11 plus exams in England. These types of 11 plus exams are multiple-choice. Children have question booklets and separate answer sheets, which are marked electronically.
There are two one-hour papers in the Kent Test. The first assesses English (30 minutes) and maths (30 minutes). The second tests verbal reasoning (30 minutes) and non-verbal and spatial reasoning (30 minutes). Children also have a 40-minute creative writing exercise as part of the Kent Test, but this is only marked in a handful of cases.
Children’s marks in the Kent Test are age-standardised to ensure children born later in the school year aren’t disadvantaged. Children get three standardised scores - one for English, one for maths, and one for reasoning - and one total (aggregate) score. The total score pass mark is 332, but children also need to achieve at least 107 in each of English, maths and reasoning to qualify for a place at a Kent grammar school.
