Thanks for your interest in our video! While you are right that wood separation and shrinkage happens to all wood over time, it is a matter of degree when judging whether something is an antique. Something that is a true antique, meaning it is over 100 years, will have much wider and significant shrinkage than something that is only 10 or 20 years, where one would expect to see considerably less shrinkage. I'm not quite clear about your question, but I'm guessing you're asking which Louis was in power before Napoleon's rise to fame? Louis XVI was on the throne at the time of the French Revolution and lost his head to the guillotine. As wood ages, the moisture evaporates and it begins to look dull and faded. However, if furniture is cared for on a regular basis by cleaning and waxing, it can last for hundreds of years in good condition. I realize this piece is very beautiful and eye-catching, so you may have been distracted from my words by all the pretty details! :) I did immediately describe this piece as Renaissance style and gave an estimated date of 1890 for its production. I did not state, nor have I implied in any way, that this is an actual 15th/16th century piece! I would expect something of that age to be found in a museum or at a Sotheby's auction! :) I do also refer to a much longer video (and tell the viewer to find that video here on our channel) where I give the history of the development of the Renaissance style in the 15th/16th centuries, the hallmarks of the style, and why there was a resurgence of interest in the Renaissance style in the late 19th century. The Renaissance-style Buffet in this video is part of the Renaissance Revival at the end of the 19th century, and I do very clearly date this piece as part of that time period.
