Canon should go back to reflex, 🎥 mirror less is crap fotograpy

Everybody seems to love this lens. I think i am just not a 40mm kind of person. It is not close not wide. And it does not give me the feel of an nice fast 35mm. Love your video's btw.

I used this lens back in the early 90’s when I worked for a sports newspaper. I bought it just because it was significantly cheaper than the 2.8. I mostly used the 80-200/2.8 as my mail lens. But that was the film era.

Thank you Paul. I bought this lens because of your earlier walk around videos. I use it for commercial architecture work and found on film and digital in real world, the vignette isn’t really an issue. Thanks for the tips and calming street videos! Also, your picture profiles. Look forward to the next one.

Please, dont pry rubber covers, u can damage them. Just heat with hair dryer and it will come off easily. Also if they are dirty, u could cover them with thin microfiber, apply some isopropyl alcohol and rub with toothbrush. This way u wont damage covers with brush. About sticky tape - one may ask couple little segments at local phone repair shop, they work great, or couple drops of their adhesive solution.

That image at 2:43 reminds me of something. Many years ago a presidential candidate came to town and was going to speak from a stage set up on the county courthouse steps. It was a big event, a crowd filled the area and I was jealous of a guy with a super long lens and tripod, all I had was a 50mm on my Argus-Cosina STL 1000 ( all black body- for "stealth"). The area directly to the left of the stage had a whole, kind of wing or catwalk stage and on that were many photographers all aimed and looking at the candidate. It was a great shot, so I shot them and nobody else did, I was convinced it was an excellent shot. I worked my way around looking for an angle, you couldn't get close so I decided to try an upper story window at the library which had a window that provided an excellent view of the candidate and the whole scene. After some effort I was able to get to the window, it was open, and I and others took some shots from it. Those were destined to be great shots as well. I took quite a few other shots and sent the film off for processing. I was really feeling good about it all. It came back, all destroyed, ripped up by the machine, nothing came back, I don't think anything but a piece of the leader was returned. To this day I am disappointed by it all. Who would think something that long ago would still be remembered? So, print your stuff here and there, print the nice ones or the ones with meaning to you. Years ago, perhaps 40 years ago I came across some old slides and lo and behold wasn't there a nice shot of my grandmother sitting in a rocker at our summer place by the fireplace. It had to 40 years before. It was a Kodachrome slide, looked as good as the day it was shot. I had some nice prints made to distribute around to the family. That's the thing, a photo is an instant, it is truly an instant in time, never to be repeated again. Kind of amazing. Nice video, interesting and distinctive bokeh up close with that lens. Did you find the lens sufficiently contrasty on its own or did it need some tweaks? Sweet old camera too. Best wishes! God Bless!

So am i!! ;) found this video very helpfull, my usb rubber terminal also got "rotten" over time, just ordered a new from aliexpress, i'm going to try the 300LSE Ultra Thin Double Sided Clear Tape to glue back the leatherette, found the tape you used was not thin enough, thanks for the help.

Hi Paul is there anyway we can preview each picture style so we can decide what we want. There is so much and only way for me to see is to try each. Would be nice to see a video of each before hand. There is so much to chose

Thanks for sharing. I’ve never bothered messing around with profiles. I like what comes out of the 700 by default. Some of the profiles look ok though. I’ll leave Hendrix to play guitar !

The Canon Mark II is a great camera - there's no reason to complain, it does a great job. It's always surprised me how I can push the sensor in various light, and turn out some great shots. I bought a Canon Mark Iv a year ago, thought I'd sell the Mark II, but, just couldn't let it go. Nice video, thanks, Sean

People say they love the colours out of this camera. ... then they shoot raw so they can change them 🤣

A nice walk. I found that shooting people close in with a wide lens gave me some nice results, but you have to get close for it. Easiest to do among family and friends at an event of some kind. Like 28mm or so. You have to swoop in and get the moment. I am not stealthy so I make conversation. I shot a wedding anniversary for family years ago with a Fuji x-pro-1 and the focus was so slow with some lenses that you could actually have a conversation waiting for it to focus. I think the lack of ability to really hyper focus before a shot and the delay in camera shots after you press the button was quite a weakness in the dslr world compared to film cameras. With them you pre-focused for your DOF and just kit the button when you wanted the shot, timing was everything. That technique was not available when they went digital, they had no DOF scales on the lenses and the shutter was always delayed. I liked the shot of the wires on the bridge, reminded me of that shot they all do on the Brooklyn Bridge, but different of course. One wonders if it is lighted at night and how that may look. I'm using that same iteration with the 40mm. I love it. So simple. I keep it in shutter priority. I do that same for my Nikon D700 and Ricoh gr3.
