Seems like a lot of people in the comments are out of the loop, so hopefully this clears things up: In powerlifting, raw means no special equipment that helps you lift more weight; this includes elbow and knee wraps/sleeves, wrist wraps, straps, suits, and bench shirts. A bench shirt is basically a specialized neoprene shirt you wear in order to give yourself more strength in the pressing motion. It adds a bit of spring tension as you lower the bar to your chest, and can help you bench way more than otherwise Greg hit a world record raw bench; however, the competition was an equipped competition (bench shirt). Powerlifting federations are really picky about these details, so although he did in fact lift the weight in a competition, it was not considered an official record because of this. It's kinda like if you were to break a Guiness record for something, but they weren't there to certify it; or rather, you broke a record for a different event that they weren't there to check Hopefully that helps anybody who was confused

Actually it is about muscle. Just not steroid inducing muscle. When it comes to muscle, shoot I swear God thought of everything ( if you're atheist...nothing thought of everything). We know how and why muscle gets stronger and bigger. Why can't we just keep going? Why isn't that a thing where we have to stop or our muscles will grow and grow? It does stop and yes strong connective tissue must exist but what's lifting the weight? Muscle.

Facts!!!! First tour in Iraq, i worked out 2x a day for an hour, one day rest, consumed $300 a month in supplements. Second tour, 1x a day, 2 days rest and only $150 a month in supplements and i got WAY BIGGER AND STRONGER! At 23, i ran a 18:05, 3 mile, could do 27 MARINE CORPS pullups, benched 325, deadlift 505 at about 205lbs! Shredded! Did 17 reps at 225lbs in a football bench press competition 😊
