Perfecting Kydex Retention!!!

Here’s a quick video about how to get the best kydex retention. I’m not teaching how to make a sheath cause there is already a ton of videos on that. This is specifically talking about retention of kydex to get that nice “snap” every time! Let me know if you learned something!

This is the first video I ever made of my knife making process. I never made a video like this before and everything was shot with my iPhone 12 Promax. Enjoy 😊
I’d like to buy a the knife you are sharpening in this video 11am how much?
Hello
How long is the cutting edge?
Very good beginner's tutorial. I have the KO-3 "Master Kit," and I've been doing some shopping for another set of abrasive stones. Jende Industries manufactures their own resin-bonded abrasive stones that, while pricey - will last a very long time. Every time I sit down to use my KO-3 I am impressed all over again with this incredibly well engineered & manufactured system. Such a pleasure to work with something so well made! I've only done a handful of blades and some scissors, and still consider myself a beginner/learner. I'm going to finally pick up a set of their allen drivers that were out-of-stock for quite awhile, much easier to work with than the supplied standard allen keys, especially when clamping up, etc. I agree with you on their customer service, they are very good. Also, I understand that the "Atoma 140" is almost the gold standard abrasive stone for re-profiling and the harder steels, ceramic; and would likely work very well for putting the initial edge on your knife blanks. Take care...
Great review. I currently have the Kadet and ordered the KO3 Pro Hunter yesterday. I am planning to sell my Kadet. I didn’t know they offered a trade in program
Will the Tormek small knife adapter work with this unit to do micro knives for carving ?
Awesome vid man
If at all it's the best sharpener*, a device that makes your knife sharper. But kudos for using thin brochure paper for testing, because even a dull knife can cut printer paper.
How much would you charge for a 3.5" custom in k390? Can you even get the steel?
Have you compared this unit to the new K03 model? And if so is it worth the money to upgrade to the K03 ? And why
Where did you get the blue anodized Kangaroo-strop??
I’ve been told to clamp the center of the blade. I see your edge is to the side of the center of the clamps. Do you not find it matters? Thx.
Awesome review, I'm really interested in getting one. I'm new to sharpening, but I have a large collection of Atoma diamond plates and Shapton glass stones. Can I use those with this platform? I just spent a small fortune on the stones and don't really want to buy new ones. Thank you!
As long as your stones are the 1" x 6" your good. Actually - I suppose you could even use larger, or smaller abrasive stones, provided the have the bevelled ends to fit the TSPROF stone holder. That's a wicked nice set of stones you have, wish I had more than just the standard diamond set that came w/ my TSPROF KO-3 Master Kit! They are quite an investment. Good luck with your sharpening...
That's a beautiful knife. I just bought my first fix blade from tactical pterodactyl. I definitely like to add one of yours to my collection
Is there a way to contact you to buy some of your knives that isn't through social media? I don't have any social media but I'm really interested in your work
Thanks for the review , I noticed when you sharpen on one side of the knife you sharpen from heel to tip and other side from tip to heel , because I have done this too , But I heard its better to keep the scratch pattern going the same way via both sides , the edge may get slick by diminishing the teeth of the scratch pattern, Do you have any insight on this ?
Stupid proof 😂😂😂 so I am fked I am Stupid
Great video, nice sharp camera angles and impressive results on that knife. I just got delivery of my TSPROF K03 Pro the other day. Do you ever have to clean the strop plate you use, and if so, how do you clean it? Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
That you dont understand CBN & diamond are not the same tells me all .
That’s awesome buddy 😁 so happy for you!
very cool brother!! always love your content Brian! BP Custom Knives ROCKS!!! \m/ \m/
Thanks man I appreciate it!! My name is Brandon by the way ❤️❤️🤙🙏
Тебе учиться и учиться!!! Ты в заточке полный ноль!!! Непозорься!
I wish I could buy one....?
Good stuff, watched a lot of Kydex sheets and just started 2 weeks ago. That was a good hint! I would have a question, how do you prevent ratteling whilst still giving the blade enough room?
2 layers of painters tape on each side of the blade. Trim the tape with a razor blade
@@bpcustomknives4392 Did that, but it tent to rattle at the tip. I put tape on the spine as well, just on the sides?
Thanks for the video. However, the way you have that knife clamped is incorrect. The L hand one isn’t making full contact with the flats and will skew the angle. Move both clamps to one side of the centre pivot point and secure the blade so the clamps are nearly touching each other. Also, work on just one side to achieve a full-length burr before flipping.
I appreciate the advice buddy! Thank you!
Do you use TS Prof replacement stones of after market versions? If so, which do you recommend? Very clear review, you deserve more subs.
I actually haven’t needed to replace any stones yet besides the corse stone. I replaced it with a hapstone brand and I’m happy with it. I also added a veneve resin bonded diamond stone at 800 grit, but I wish I got a 400 grit instead. I appreciate the comment buddy.
Why do you wish you had the 400 instead?
@@jameshoward8161 I would get venev resin bonded diamond stones
Why has nobody liked your video? It is so sad that everybody doesn’t like video. You should get more likes and followers and colors. How many do you have now? I’m so glad that I’m coming cause it sad to see you have no library no followers no qualities no white so sad so this is why I’m coming in. This is even where I’m surviving and I’m I don’t want to watch any videosand I am going to
Thanks for the support 🙏 I’ll get there eventually 🙌
I like this. How can I get a hold of some of your designs?😊
@@topazcarr8222 That is a Great question ⁉️
Thank you for demystifying the use of this type of system for someone who's thinking about picking up something like it.
No problem 🙏🙏
Don't think getnit i have one and holy shit is it Worth it
Great video and i really like the sharpener but the one thing I think I would change is that the angle finder is made on the rod. It moving around and jarring around the whole time your sharpening cant be good for it.
Thanks! You have a reasonable observation, but I’m sure the designers of this took that into consideration. It also has a calibration function too! 🤙
Just found your channel. Man that is beautiful. How do I go about getting one of these?
Thanks buddy!! Message me on instagram @bp_custom_knives
My K03 just arrived a few days ago. Do you recommend going up by .1 after using each diamond stone?
It definitely won’t hurt anything! In fact, that might actually help in some ways.
@@bpcustomknives4392 I’ve watched other videos and how raising the angle by .1 helps the “micro bevel.” But it seems everyone has their own way of doing it. Some add .1 to every diamond stone swap out and others just do it on the last stone. But I’ve already sharpened 10 knives with this K03 Hunter Pro and I love it.
@@SparticesIt just comes down to user preference. As you get more comfortable with the system you will definitely develop your own style of sharpening. Your edges will get sharper and sharper as you get better and better. The key is making sure your apex is clean and adding .1 to every stone is not 100% necessary, but I can see how that would help ensure that the stones are making contact with the apex of the edge. Cheers buddy 🤙
I bought one of these for personal upkeep of my higher end blades and definitely haven't got my moneys worth yet😅, but I love the system and no buyers remorse
Do you think the cadet model could do large chef knives?
Yes it definitely can 👌
is there anyway I can use your services
Email me bpcustomusa@outlook.com
Fidgety. I'll stick with my Horl 2.
You do that 👌
Us guys have an indescribable affinity for quality, fitment or ergonomics. Like the way a VW beetles door shuts, deeply pleasing and is a key reminder that no matter where you're from we can all appreciate the famous German standard of "Gootentight". Not unlike how most of us use in place of a torque wrench whilst ratcheting, wrenching.....crossthreading....wrestling something into submission...you know what I'm talkin about!
🤔I might be ordering one
Good job bro🎉❤
Stupid proof- that means it's perfect for me!
I have been wanting a ts prof for quite some time
Deburing is the most important step and raising that angle just a touch is going to help get rid of that burr and the root burr. I doing something semi similar.
Yeah , TSProf actually recommends to raise the angle 0.1 degrees after every stone , I don’t do this but I like the idea of rising the angle 0.1 on the last stone , on a leather strop backing off 0.2-0.3 degrees will help from rolling the edge , I have been using bass wood with stroppy stuff or gunny juice diamond emulsion, with the wood you can keep it on you final degree with rolling the edge , My biggest problem with the K03 etc is hitting the tip and keeping it perfectly flat at the tip , I have to concentrate I don’t roll it .
Genuine and well made tools are absolutely beautiful. Good job with this video and the review. I might just go pick one up for myself
Nice video as always, buddy!👍🏽 I’m wondering what is the grit finish on the blade before etching? Thanks!🙏🏽
400 in the flats and 220 in the bevels
Well put together video. You do really well with videos bro. Very clear and concise speech. Informational and you know how to give it a good flow. That sharpener is amazing. I'm totally sold on it and I will pick one up when the time is right and when I do I will most definitely use your link thank you for the video.. lots of useful nuggets of knowledge all throughout
I ordered one of these things yesterday, so I appreciated being able to watch it being assembled. That's a rare video; all of the videos out there are of people using an already assembled unit :)
What is a "Toothy Edge" and what purpose does is serve?
Good question. A toothy edge is an edge that has a “bite” if you run your finger along the blade of a toothy edge it feels like it wants to grab your skin and start cutting immediately. An edge that’s too highly polished doesn’t have that same affect because the edge doesn’t have the micro serrations that a toothy edge has resulting in material gliding over the smooth apex rather than getting caught by the micro serrations and cutting.
Awesome work as always!👊🏼🔥 Can I ask what are those two tools that you’re using on your bench drill to make the finger choil? Thanks!
Thanks bro! I just saw this comment! I used a chainsaw file chucked into the drill press to help smoothen over the thumb jimping. For the finger choil I use a small wheel attachment on my 2x72 grinder 🤙
I bought mine on Black Friday for 30% off. That was a steal.
I find using it to be therapeutic. I have a Tormek 800 also. But I can use this inside during winter and not make a big mess.
I also purchased the Atoma Diamond stones which are very nice, then bought the set of PD Tools Expert set of 7 stones along with a few Venev Resin Bonded Micron stones just to round out plus a few strops with gunny juice and some stropping compounds.
I put just the slightest smear of silicone grease on the rod and wiped off most of it very lightly where it passes the bearing. Also put a spring on the backside rod for a softer stop.
I really like my Kadet Pro. But they don’t tell you what happens when you have no more knives to sharpen. So you start going to neighbors houses begging to sharpen their knives. 😂
Add a venev centaur two sided F1200 and F1500 - 15 Micron and 12.6 Micron. Then strop at 5 and 1 micron.
