Hello everyone! I’m the Norfolk Southern Railfan. This channel is based out of railfanning in Northeast, OH and in my channel you’ll find trains and railroad crossings. For those trains and railroad crossings, you’ll find me Railfanning on the NS Cleveland District, the NS Toledo District and the NS Chicago Line. I may even document some CSX lines as well.

On June 9, I’m once again back out on the T-Line to knock out more crossings. This was where I started since it’s where I left off previously. I saw this 257 passing the Bellevue and within maybe 10 mins after it passed the cam, it passed me with a GEVO leading an Ace.
These 90s NS signals have had minimal changes to them since installation. Those changes being that both signals got new vertical stripes gates way back then and the northern signal got a whole new set of gate lights around the same time. This crossings bell is also on the southern signal which is rare to see on this line.

These are very common in my state. Florida have a lot. They are all over the Florida east coast railway & CSX railroad.

What bridge is this?
These crossing gates have safetrans hybrid mechanical bells. And the train that crossed at the first scene was CSX 329. In the second scene, two CSXs passed each other. The third one has vintage styled, non-LED gates with an oncoming CSX 3282.
Good new intermodal now on the Cleveland district like 28b, 29p, 264, and 265 are now rerouted on the Cleveland district for ever
The only one thats a guarantee on the district is 264. 28B, 29P and 265 still run the Chicago Line via Cloggsville

The leading unit actually has a K3HL. I don't see 2 other bells on the horn. The K5HL sounds more rougher than this.
Ah I see, I’m no expert on horns so I honestly just go with what I know and what sounds closest.

I’m pretty sure the crossing still had the feature ringing the bell throughout the whole activation for a while after the bell was replaced before NS eventually changed the sequence.

Thx!! Believe it or not, I’m actually using my iPhone 15 pro to shoot these videos. I’m shooting them in 4K at 60fps. While the videos do come out clean and crisp online in 4K, I don’t recommend shooting in 4K all the time on a phone as it does takes up quite a bit of storage and takes longer to upload to CZcams. If you using a phone I recommend shooting in HD at 60fps. I have a Canon EOS camera but I only use that for pictures.

Funny thing is that I caught that same train NS 380 with a CSX locomotive at this exact crossing when I was chasing it. Nice video! I want to go back to that area and Fremont soon.

I don't think that is NS 267, it would come on the Chicago Line at Oak Harbor and head west. Port Clinton is east of Oak Harbor, so that must be another train.
Scanner confirmed 267. Sometimes 267 runs via the Venice connection at CP 242 in Sandusky and sometimes via Oak Harbor. Why do they do this, I honestly have no idea. Maybe has something to do with the crews?

This crossing has an interesting history. At one time there was a junction literally feet to the west of this crossing as there was an industrial track that went to a business just to the north east of the crossing. It hadn't been used for years by the time I remember it. The industrial spur was removed, and they literally just moved the northern crossing forward a few feet rather than replacing it, which I think would have been the normal response. The industrial track was removed between 2009 and 2013. However, the northern crossing mechanism hadn't moved yet. That was done between 2013 and 2019. I would have thought they would have done a full crossing upgrade by that point, considering the crossings around it were getting upgraded around that point, and given the age of the crossing. But no, they just moved the mast.

I am not sure if the bell is just quiet, or if that crossing needs two bells just based on the grade crossing design. The road comes in on an awkward angle, that requires a large gap between both crossing masts. Having one bell on it, is ineffective, let alone having an incredibly weak bell at that.
The bell here is extremely quiet and since this road is at weird angle and the other background noise, it makes it extremely hard to tell if actually rings when the gates rise. Like you said though, this bell could very possibly be on its way out.

@@RailfanNS What's interesting is I just got notification that Rye Beach and River Road are shutting down, I think tomorrow for some work... who knows what though. Probably just a repaving, but could be some crossing work.
They’ve been doing work on track one for about 3-4 days around the CP 232 and CP 240 areas so that could be why as they may have been repaving other crossings.
