An Lanntair is a hub for creativity and the Arts in the Outer Hebrides. We are a multi arts venue - at one and the same time a contemporary art gallery, a theatre, a cinema, a dance studio, a concert hall, a platform for poetry and literature, a studio - every space stretched to showcase the Arts in multiple forms.
In October 2005, following a ten year campaign, a magnificent new arts centre on the Stornoway seafront was opened. Our building includes a 200 seat auditorium, gallery space, office space, shop and café bar and was one of the largest ever Arts developments in the Highlands and Islands. Our programme has an enviable reputation and over the years major awards and endorsements have been received from, among others, Arts & Business, Arts and Tourism (Trophy), Art Partners and in 2007 the Traditional Music Venue of the Year, reflecting the richness and depth of the music programme.

Great to see this Iain. Having spent my youth on Bernera I didn't know about this local history, very interesting. Maybe you could do some more about Bernera living which would be fantastic, your a complete natural on TV.
Wow. This brought tears to my eyes. I drive by this area frequently for work and never understood the history behind it (I'm a relative newbie to Lewis--5 years this December). What a magnificent history; thank you for sharing. What I don't understand is why these places were cleared of people in the first place only to be replaced by a single tenant farmer. Surely many hands, in the form of families of farmers, make lighter work than one person?? I am glad to see that crofting and landholding is returning to the island, but it would be nice if the process of getting a croft were easier for people wanting to live this lifestyle. Thanks you, Professor Rennie, for your work. Blessings in 2023.

I totally agree with children having the opportunity to learn their own language and culture l was disappointed growing up during a time they charged you too learn the language and my parents couldn't afford for me too get taught it l think we need too learn more of our own gaelic language and keep it alive n going l love listening to caitlin and sian their amazing xxx
The Gaeltac? Not sure how to spell it. I only know a little Gaelic. "Go maire tu i bhad agus rath". I think that's "live long and prosper". Es tut mir Leid. I was born in Germany, but came to the USA when I was a baby to Ga. with my American parents and siblings. I love both cultures-Celtic and German-and I'm bit of a Trekkie too. I also grew up as a "MFU" and David McCallum fan as well.
