Oh snap this song!! I left my high school sweetheart in 94 when i went to MCRD Parris Island. I never told her where i was going cause i wanted it to become a secret. I wanted ti build a new life for her and i. I just told her to pleade wait. Ill be back one day. 4 1/2 years later i returned with a wedding ring and she had moved on. Married, 2 beautiful kids, and a very unhappy marriage. Due to my profession, i found her. And we secretly seen each other for 2 years until i met my current wife. Its been 10 years and i found out she my childhood sweetheart passed 6 months ago. Her husband found her overdosed, with a picture of her kids with her and a picture of her and i in her backpocket hugging on the swings. It was the last time we spoke before i left for the Marines. I visited her grave yesterday!! I left our picture in a small hole beside her so shell always have it! These very words i was just thinking to this song and then it pops up for me to listen too. I've loved this song since Dr Hook recorded it. When Marrianne recorded it I cried it was so good. And I couldn't even imagine reaching the age of 37. When I turned 37 all I could do was cry since the lyrics were so much more poignant then. And now at age 52 all I can do is smile at the nostalgia.
