Some people are just unable to refrain from looking at their phones for 5 minutes, that's just plain selfish and endangering others to pull it out on a roller coaster of all things. Even dumber if they're trying to get a video of the ride or take a selfie. I secure my phone, wallet, and other things as best I could prior to boarding a roller coaster and nothing comes out until after I get off. As someone who wears glasses, I'm also paranoid about them sliding off mid-ride so that too goes in my pockets. I actually have specific pairs of pants and shorts with a zippered pocket or two just so I could have that extra layer of security on coasters.

id be pissed af, and just taking the phone away isnt enough, they should eject you from the ride because its clearly visible everywhere not to take your phone on, they most likely were tryna record a unauthorised pov

Good they they are seen to be taking safety seriously. In the worst case scenario a dropped object from that height could have resulted in falling ontop of someone and killing them or the person holding it would have insufficient grip of the safety bar and slipped out falling to their death. The whole park would then probably be closed for days if not weeks and that ride might never be reopened, plus there would have to be a public inquiry snd the operators could loose their licence not to mention millions in compensation and a ruined reputation. Safety first folks.
