I’ve been meaning to put up a gourd version of this tune, modeled after Adam Hurt’s treatment. Gourd banjo #144 from Noah Cline, tuning is c-A-D-G-A (key of C, my preference currently due to something else I’ve been working on…)
“Flowery Girls”

from Omer Forster, atypically tried in the clawhammer style. Indebted to Arnie Naiman, whose yt version I’ve had on repeat for the past few years. Standard G tuning
Lily of the Valley

Reprised as a solo, since I wasn’t really happy with earlier efforts. From Luther Davis/arr. Adam Hurt (“Back to the Earth…”) Lily of the Valley (the flowering plant), is poisonous. The tune is a harsh mistress.. Bottle Gourd banjo #144 from Noah Cline. In “Double-A” tuning (e-A-E-A-B).
Sally Ann Johnson

A study of Barry Crannell’s wonderful version, which I’ve long-admired, in Double-D tuning. Barry described Sally Ann as “Julianne’s smarter sister..” I should resurrect Julianne sometime soon, and feature the two in a medley (?)
“Sallie Cooper”

also known as “the National Anthem of Surry County, North Carolina…”. A study of Adam Hurt’s version on his “Insight” album. For a slightly more up-tempo (and I think cleaner) version, see : czcams.com/video/7WqpmZir22g/video.htmlsi=t5b8RegPw_dNSWIx

love it :)
What’s the name of that banjo 😍
This is a “Keepsake” model from Ryan Navey at Carolina Banjos.
This is quite a relaxing tune. I love the tone of your bottle!
I love this nicely played Sir…mad cool…🪕🪕🪕
Great stuff. Is it a home made instrument not something I have seen in the UK?
Never gets old, especially on that bottle gourd. This tune really transports you elsewhere. I could image 2 samurai dueling under cherry blossoms, I could imagine picking ginseng in the hills, I could imagine sitting on the porch listening to the wind blow. Nice playing per usual, nice build Noah!
SOUNDS FANTASTIC !!!

Love it!
I'm in awe at the beauty of that banjo. And the tone is just the chefs kiss...of course the player does have a bit to do with that as well lol. Kudos all around
Noah’s banjos are really exceptional
Just beautiful. I’ve listened to it many times and keep coming back to listen again.
Always LOVED ❤ that one.
Hey Steve, I love your playing. Should I start out on a fretless gourd banjo? I have some music experience (3 years training on bass), can play the guitar a little. What would recommend to get started?
Would probably be more practical to start on a standard banjo, since most initial instruction is targeted as such. Fretless makes hitting proper intonation more challenging. And a fretted banjo would lend itself to instilling proper muscle memory. But I’m aware of a few people that went fretless pretty early in the game. 🙂
This is so neat 👍
This is so neat 👍
Its a fretless gourd 😮 great playing
"Lovely" Thanks Very Enjoyable !
Здорово! Но, если чуть больше энергии, и чуть меньше воспоминаний, - .. - здорово! Очень приятно Вас слушать! Спасибо!
Besides a few, well, several other tunes from Earth Tones, this is one of my favorites. I too like cADGA. Nicely played, Steve!
Thanks Noah ! Thanks also for addressing Peter’s question.
The sheer ease that he nails those hammer-ons and pull-offs with is amazing. Clean as spring water! Keep up the great work man, I can’t wait for the next one! 🔥🔥🔥
this was lovely
Listening to you play one of Noah's gourd banjos is just the perfect start to my day. The rest is down to me now! Thanks again Steve... 👍 👍 👍
Such a mellow peaceful sounding instrument
2nd fan-view; 1st LIKE posted. What is the nut made of on this instrument? 5th listen-view stepped up to 1.25.
The nut and fifth string pip are ebony to match the color of the Pegheds tuners.
Enjoying Thanks Steve
Thank You Steve
No songs are written anymore with that mood.
What a beautiful and original banjo and what a beautiful sound and melody it brings out, gentleman. It is very calming to listen to him. Never stop playing, you do it great. Congratulations.

That was wonderful ..Thanks so much, yours Guy
Thanks Guy !
song makes me cry
Love that fretless sound-great playing
It is truly amazing to see your command of the fretting. I have a fretless, but I can’t get those high notes. On red haired boy, you get all the way up the seventh or ninth. A lot of fretless players have necks that start having frets at the fifth. I also love that syncopated drop them towards the end of the A part.
