Deep Brain Stimulation for Treatment Resistant Depression
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is emerging as a potential intervention for patients with highly treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Early, open-label studies supported the safety and potential efficacy of DBS for TRD but later randomized, controlled trials have yielded mixed results. This presentation reviews the history of DBS for TRD, with a specific focus on DBS of the subcallosal cingulate (SCC) - the technique that has been most studied to date. The results of key trials are critically evaluated, and recent research is presented that provides a potential direction for further study of this promising intervention.

No sleep is the cause of my anxiety and depression. The function of sleep is gone from my brain and the only way I sleep is with 6 sedatives at night and they are wearing off. I am convinced I have fatal insomnia. If I get sleep back, Axiety and Depression will go. I am just so scared of sleep stopping and hallucinations starting and dying of Fatal Insomnia.

We need go be saying ‘is this THE OCD’ not ‘MY’ OCD. Calling it your own implies ownership and comfort within it, like a companion or some kind of part of us that we accept. Let’s not accept it, it is something you can change and get rid of, not something that is yours to keep.

Excellent presentation. Avoidant personality disorder is a subspecialty that I treat. Anxiety disorders are my primary specialty. I would like to add that the primary differences between avpd and social anxiety is inferiority. People with social anxiety tend not to have a general sense of inferiority while people with avpd almost always have an overwhelming sense of inferiority.

Everyone, please try to read my story and learn how im not afraid of vomiting anymore. 1 month ago,in June,I took a trip to visit my grandparents. They lived 6 hours away from me.At the time we switched up to 4 buses, because we did not have our own car.Everything was going fine and i was feeling very well.I was glad that i didnt feel like vomiting because I've been fearing it since 2019.We just arrived at our grandparents house. Then out of nowhere my stomach started hurting a little bit but i was not feeling like vomiting.I ate some spaghetti and then i slept.2 hours later i woked up to my stomach hurting so bad that it was about to explode and my head hurting and burning hot like a Volcano.I didnt worry about this too much but i wanted to tell my dad about it because i thinked that my grandma would for sure take me to the hospital.I couldng find my dad anywhere and i found out he had left because he had work tomorrow. So i just told my brother instead. He was very calm and not panicing at all.My stomach hurted so bad time after time..And suddenly i was feeling like vomiting.I was running out for some fresh air..but all the neighbours saw me heavily breathing and they comed to help me out..But my anxiety started to pul inand i couldnt move.I was running out of breath and i was panicing so much that i couldnt speak anymore. They called 3 ambulances and my mom and dad were coming back rushing.I tried to get up but i felt so dizzy and i couldn't see anymore. At that point i falled into the ground and i hit my arm on the ground.I managed to remember that there were so many peoples coming from the street to check on me.They tried to get me up but (thanks to my brother that helped me in this hard situation) it wouldn't help.My brother that is a doctor understood that the vomit was giving me all the pain so he helped me get the vomit out. This time i thought that it was my last time in this world but after i vomited i understood that sometimes we all have fears but always try overcome it,and even if you think you can and its impossible, remember, even the word i-m-p-o-s-s-i-b-l-e, is spelled “Im possible“! Thanks for reading this,At this point i lost my fear of anxiety and vomiting!

Treat the pain, not the depression. *SMH* Psychiatry thinks they have the answer to everything, but psychiatry at its roots has always been fraud. So it is here. Treating with CBT does nothing for pain. Again, treat the pain and other issues - sleeplessness, depression, etc., will resolve. *She's got the cart before the horse. Treat the pain*
