PROGRAM RECORDING
Women Veterans Recognition Day is celebrated each year on June 12 in recognition of the anniversary of the 1948 Women’s Armed Services Integration Act signing. 2024 is the 76th anniversary of that groundbreaking legislation for America’s military women, granting women a permanent place and an opportunity for a career in the nation’s military. On this special day designated to honor America’s military women, past and present, the Military Women's Memorial - the place to be to honor America's military women - held our national Women Veterans Recognition Celebration.

Happy birthday! The world is definitely a better place because you are in it!
Happy Birthday to a bright star😊
Thank you so much for this and your service. This was so informative.
I am a founding member, under Others Who Serve, still serving the US.
That's there is a chance of nurse to go on moon?
This collection looks stunning. I’m so happy a wonderful museum like this exists to tell the stories of women’s service. I love learning about women’s roles during war time. I have to ask, is the museum hiring for any position within the collections department? I’m a museum registrar and have been for over 10 years. This museum would be a dream job.
Love this story! PLEASE listen to the end…words of wisdom we ALL need to hear! Thank you for your service SGM Walters🙏❤️⚡️🇺🇸
Fantastic!

Much respect, admiration and deep gratitude for each of you!
This Navy veteran loves this tribute to a great lady!! Thank you General Vaught!
We're so glad you like it, Liz. Thank you for your service!
We had so much fun!
I’m at a loss as to contact. My Aunt Lcdr. Thelma Fae Maxwell RN was in the Navy during the Korean War and stationed in Japan and many other bases throughout the USA. I have her memorial is dating back to 1942, her medals, her 8x10 picture in her whites. I’m 87 and have been trying to find out where to send this history to as in a memory of her service. This was a promise I made to her brother, my uncle John C. Maxwell to try to get this to the Naval Womens Museum. I’ve contacted a number of offices with no response. Please let me know what to do. My age is a problem and need to get help ASAP. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Hi Clint, thank you for sharing this information with us and preserving your aunt's legacy. We would be happy to connect you with our Collections team who can work with you on either donating or loaning these items to the Military Women's Memorial or another institution. What is the best way to contact you? Phone? Email?
Beautiful story…Thanks for sharing.
Hello, my name is Logan Shifflet. I am writing a book on the stories of pearl harbor and I was wondering if I can get permission to use these stories for my book. If so you will be cited at the end of the book!!! Thanks, Logan
Hi Logan, If you would send us your email address, we will put you in contact with our curator who can help with resources and use of MWM assets. We look forward to learning more about your book.
for a GI in europe in ww2, mail form home was not only a morale boost, it was an actual matter of life and death. Mail is Morale, Morale wins battles, Morale becomes victory 6888th saved thousands of GIs by making suere they go their mail and morale needed.
Came across this video. Nice to put a face to a name and voice. Hi Britta!
Thank you!
Outstanding, Danyell! Proud of you and Mike!
Sixty-two years I joined the US Navy WAVES and while I served I had many occasions to feel a sense of pride in the military. Through all those years that sense of pride has stayed with me and I have no greater pride than in the Military Women's Memorial and all the wonderful service women who have strived to make our Memorial a place of honor for we the women through all time.
Thank you for your service, Delores. It truly is a privilege to honor our servicewomen and tell their stories. We are grateful for supporters like you.
Can't wait to move to DC so I can attend these events!
Great organization, wonderful archives
It was a privilege to participate in the 25th Anniversary of this Memorial. My mother, my daughter, and I are Charter Members. I attended with my daughter & a friend who is also a charter member. I was thrilled to speak with Brigadier General Wilma Vaught and take pictures with her again. She was so gracious to me in 2012 when I first met her to show off the new paint job on my motorcycle. The WIMSA Trike displays a portrait of my mother, my daughter, & I in the foreground of the Military Women's Memorial. It is a tribute to women who served. It serves to attract the attention of people with whom I can share the story of the Memorial, using it to encourage women to register. Thank you General Vaught for refusing to let them stick us in one of the corners of Arlington, instead fighting for the prominent place we have at the Ceremonial Gates of Arlington National Cemetery, providing us the recognition we all deserve. Thank you to current Memorial President Phyllis Wilson, her staff, and all the volunteers who presented this program.
Wonderful!!!
Great discussion; inspiring to hear the experience of Dr. Huynh.
I have a baby dress made by my grandmother for me. My mother was a WASP.
I did not know this😍
Thanks to the Military Women's Memorial for telling the story of my Aunt Betty's Coast Guard career. Her military service was only part of her story. She also spent many of her later years advocating, fundraising, and organizing the Memorial. If memory serves me correctly she is included in a photo mural in the museum display, standing proudly in her old dress uniform as Bill Clinton breaks ground. She was one hell of a woman and our family is proud to have her story told. Thank you
What a great woman Susan is to have achieved what she has on Earth and space
Great video and the ending made me smile. Thanks for all your good work!
Such a beautiful tribute! Thank you so sharing this unique exhibit with so many different communities around the country!
