Hi I'm Stephanie. I have a mild fabric obsession, a solid set of sewing skills. When I was 39, I decided to set myself a sewing challenge to remake my wardrobe before my 40th birthday. After that year was up I still had a lot of work to do and I was having so much fun on CZcams I decided to stick around.
My new goal is to help you create a wardrobe you love. For all of us to have clothes that actually fit properly and feel great to wear.
Stick around, let's see what we can make together.

I've been sewing for over 30 years and still can't sew a straight line. Thanks goodness I don't care about perfection. And thank goodness sewing tools can provide a work around. Let's talk about guided feet!
Today we talked about these sewing machine feet. Unfortunately I could not find the exact ones that came with my Janome machine. If you want those ones, I suggest checking out a sewing machine dealer near you. But I did find the other feet and have linked them below. These are affiliate links and I may be entitled to a small commission at no extra cost to you if you use them.

I've had some comments on social media lately about how expensive it can be to sew your own wardrobe. And it can be. But it doesn't have to be. We have to look at the big picture. If you are sewing a quality garment that will last for years longer than a cheap ready to wear garment, well then even if you spent a little more on fabric in the long run that garment was less expensive. It's all how...

Very helpful video, and I love your personality, but the background music isn't good (sorry) - it would be better with no music.
Sometimes I like to ask a quick question but these methods will work if you're just repairing a zipper on say a cosplay bodysuit
Yes they should. Obviously without seeing the project I can't tell if there is anything you might need to do differently. But in general this should work for pretty much any garment other than a zipper fly in pants
@@StephanieRubletz It's a full body spider man cosplay suit with a damaged zipper. If you feel confident this will work then I should be fine as most of the zipper is intact. It's a small section my roommate accidentally ripped last time she was zipping me up
@@MiyaStarOfficial oh for sure, if you are repairing one section that should be fairly straight forward. But if the main fabric has stretch, just be careful about stretching the main fabric against the non stretch zip. If that happens, it could pucker funny. Good luck!
Gonna use my daughter's old clothes with fun prints (which were damaged /torn at the knees and were probably one spill away from being mini mops) for multiple covers 🎉
That's a great idea!
This tutorial is AMAZING!!!! First time using a rolled hem foot and it was so easy to catch on with the tips and tricks from this video. Thank you so so much!!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Happy sewing!!
LOL you just called me out literally exactly, I wanted to do this for a dress for a wedding tomorrow 😂😂😂
Lolololol week it takes one to know one. I have totally done it.
Stephanie, I’m trying to hem roll a light weight knit. The problem is that the fabric is getting caught in the feed (bottom plate), such that the fabric bunches and won’t move. Do you have any recommendations to prevent this?
Ooh, I hate to say it friend but you picked about the hardest thing to roll. You could try to stabilize it with starch and lighten the pressure on the foot. But that's just a best guess. Whenever I hem a knit I either use my serger or I manually fold my hem back and go over it with a double needle and a straight stitch.
Yes, quite difficult! I’m going to try a little trick I learned way back in school, to sew with a piece of tissue paper underneath 🤞. Thanks for your reply!
I could never get the hang of using a sewing machine, and prefer sewing by hand. I've only sewn for a few creative endeavors, out of necessity, and lots of mending. Have sewn a couple zippers, but it's been a long time...before you tube, lol. So thank you for this informative video!
Thanks so much for watching!
If you get a wavy hem, would it help to use a longer stitch? How do you deal with a serged seam?
This was so helpful, but I need a video showing the rolled hem going over a seam. I tried to do this and it worked until I hit my first seam and the fabric immediately jammed in the foot. Any suggestions?
as a beginner in sewing, I only wish that there is sewing construction instruction.
Thanks. Now I downloaded my very first Tee according to my measurements.
Is Necchi 544 a heavy duty machine? Can it sew through denim and leather? Would it be a good machine for upholstery?
I think I would trust it with most denim and fabric upholstery projects but I'm not sure about leather to be honest.
Yoooo thank you so much for this tutorial!! I got it to work on my first try because of how well you explained it, i feel like i just leveled up in sewing lol i’m so excited to use this in the future! I just happened to have these feet on accident, i didn’t mean to buy them and they’ve been sitting in my sewing box for a while because i never understood how to use them. Wooooooo 🙌🙌🙌
That's so great! Thanks so much for watching!
Holy cow, your tips and tricks are fabulous!!!! I love my rolled hem foot (for over 50 years) but often struggle getting it started. The tools and how you demonstrate them are brilliant. I'm so glad you posted this. Thank you!!!
Thanks so much Dianne! Happy sewing!!
Great tips 👍 I’ve been sewing for years never tried bras. I found your channel looking for bralettes. Good info on dif sizes for each breast much like our feet
Thank you👏🏽♥️
You're welcome! Thanks for watching ❤️
Life changing! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you!!
I used a sock and created a cover. It's far less hassle and tied it with a rubber band(i was lazy to stitch it up).
The quality of the video at the vital parts of the instruction dropped considerably (and it was not just my internet connection), so couldn't see the details of you attaching the zipper to the flange. That was pretty disappointing and marred what would have been a pretty good video. That is a pity.
Thanks for the feedback
@@StephanieRubletz Thank you very much for putting this up.

I love the soap suggestions. I keep reading about beeswax, which isn't easy to find or inexpensive to find. Soap I have!
That color is a gold-brown, also called "tobacco brown." I like it.
Omg I have both of the machines you are using. The Kenmore and the Jenome.
This video was incredibly helpful & clarifying! Thanks so much!
Hi! Did you have to use a jersey or stretch fabric needle or a general purpose needle is sufficient?
Oh good question. It was so long ago I don't remember what I actually used but if I was doing it today, I would go for a Jersey needle. But an all purpose would definitely do the trick. Happy sewing!
Super helpful, thank you. I bought a rolling hem foot set from Amazon that came with no instructions 😅
Lol, same. They just expect everyone to know how I think.
Well, a client brought me 2 dresses and 2 blouses that she taking turkey for a wedding in 4 days. The dresses need taking up 5 inches so I thought of doing a rolled hem, I tried and it (on scrap fabric of course) and decided to pin it and do the usual way for now. I'll practice later.
I did it!! A 54cm piece of scrap fabric, following your directions with no mishaps. I did upholstery, and whilst working for the Police in West Yorkshire, colleagues asked me if I’d be able to alter trousers, dresses, blouses etc. When medically retired 2.5 years I put an advertisement in the local shop, now I have a small and steady income.
That is amazing!! Good for you!

Not only are these functional, but you could use pretty scraps to make these stylish. Perfect for music & gaming game!

“If you are feeling like you need this for a dress you’re supposed to wear to a wedding tomorrow…” So, I looked up this tutorial to help me hem my bridesmaid’s dress. For my friend’s wedding…tomorrow. I can’t tell you how hard I laughed. Thank you for posting this video! It was very insightful and thorough, and it added a lot of levity to my evening. 😂
Lolololol you are not the first person to tell me that! Have fun at the wedding!
It's gorgeous, Stephanie.
Thank you for this! I just bought one of these and could not for the life of me work out how to feed it and after watching your vid I got in first go and finally hemmed that bridesmaid dress 👗
Hey way to go! Have fun at the wedding!
For the person who had trouble keeping the rolled hem a consistent width - Ms Rubletz showed how to prevent it from getting progressively smaller, but if the hem gets progressively BIGGER, the woman at the "Bridal Sewing" channel said to keep some tension behind the foot and very light tension as you feed the fabric through the foot from the front, all as Ms Rubletz showed. _But ALSO keep tension pulling away at the LEFT SIDE of the foot. That prevents the hem from getting progressively wider._ It works very well to aide in consistency. All the best.
That's a great tip! Thanks so much for sharing❤️
THANK YOU! i just bought some canvas bags that i wanted to add this exact method but had no idea how. This is a perfect, clear, and concise tutorial.
Thank you! Happy sewing❤️
Thank you for that. I cannot afford a sewing machine right now and enjoy the feeling of hand sewing anyway (I find it relaxing and don't mind the time it takes to make something) so thank you very much for explaining that ! 😊
I agree Marion! Hand sewing is very relaxing. Thanks for watching!
thank you! This is so useful
Love this ❤️ I’ve made a few corsets from patterns and definitely recommend going down a few sizes
Game changer had no idea you could use something other than a straight stitch. Thank you!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching❤️
You sure make that look easy!
Lol don't worry, I had my turn of almost ripping my hair out.
@@StephanieRubletz yes, I believe it! I’ve tried before but could never figure it out, so thanks for your tutorial. I just found your site today. I’ve always wanted to make my own clothes.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm definitely going to try this. I felt tremendous relief at learning that I wasn't the only person on the planet that this happens to (including the flaking on cheeks and ears, which bugs me particularly when arriving at my workplace - I always wear my headphones on my way to work and it sucks so much having to hurry to the bathroom before meeting anyone 'cause there could be black stuff visible everywhere haha). Also, I really like your laidback, friendly, optimistic attitude! Thank you!
Thanks so much! Yeah those flakes are the worst! Happy sewing!
