What Marx really meant: Is religion the opium of the people?
This video examines Marx's famous quote in full, placing it in historical and biographical context to suggest that Marx's critique of religion was more nuanced than it is sometimes thought.

I think the big issue here is the difference between religion and God. I’ve only read a little bit of early Marx, but he definitely seems to be of the opinion that humans make gods after themselves which don’t have an actual existence. A little above the opium quote you mentioned Marx says that man “looked for a superhuman being in the fantastic reality of heaven and found nothing there but a reflection of himself…” Either way, thank you for the video. I’d love if you did more Marx content in the future.

I'm currently reading the book "The Gospel of J. Edgar Hoover", in which Hoover and other Christian conservatives were adamantly opposed to "communism" because of its supposed atheistic association. I know the "communism" of the USSR was nothing like what Marx predicted would occur during his lifetime. But I was wondering just how opposed Marx was to religion. This talk greatly clears that up for me, so thanks. As an atheist who listens to Christian radio, I often hear politics. Listeners are strongly encouraged to vote, and that Democrats are evil, socialist, Marxist, communist baby murderers. I'm not opposed to religion; I am opposed to religion being used to manipulate the masses for the benefit of a few. I think Karl Marx would have agreed.

I love your heart. TV, movies, Facebook, CZcams, Instagram, Tik-tok, X, etc, has now replaced religion as the opium of the people. It's the Image of the Beast. Compare Exodus and Rev 13:16 & Matt 5:29. The Mark of the Beast is SIN! It's on us when we're born. We MUST BE BORN AGAIN! John 3. Faith IN CHRIST comes by HEARING THE WORD of GOD. Old & new testament point to the cross. The Mark is symbolic & spiritual. The Image is real, and it's what most fill their minds & give their time. It's idolatry. Also, pot is not lethal and helps with pain, sleep, etc. The church today demonize LGBTQ, women’s, immigrants rights, etc. 1946themovie proves the Bible is mistranslated. Jesus is coming soon for this born-again gay stoner Jew while most Christians are left behind because of bigotry and idolatry. 2Thess2:11 is here. The church is fallen, Trump is lawless. They believe THE LIE. America, I believe, is that last Beast and the Whore of Babylon. Rev 18:4 is calling us out of the world. After America burns (Rev 18), then it's Iran's turn (Zech 14:4).

  • @erickchristopher8568

First off I am gay. I also was influenced by the evangelical culture and traditions which truly screwed me up for many years. But now I am set free. Free from condemnation free from fear of hell free because salvation is free. Freely given to anyone LGBTQIA and more. Free by faith. Faith believing Jesus is exactly as he said he IS. That he has the power authority to grant one life without end and that hell is not for his children. Regardless of my personal performance as a believer in Jesus fully God fully man and that yes we are called to love one another even people who despise us. But make no mistake. This world is Satans world. The God of this world spoken from scripture. This life this earth temporary clearly spoken so in scripture. And that the Gospel isn’t about your best life here and now. The Gospel is you me sinners and dead in them and once we go from non faith in Jesus as savior to faith in him as savior then and only then does anyone become born again spiritually and that is salvation. It isn’t me stopping my sins or doing more good deeds no. Nobody can stop sinning because the body aka the flesh is not born again. Only the spirit. The body the flesh will always desire flesh for flesh body for body. It is why it will either die physically here or ….. be transformed in a blink of an eye by being taken away in in instant by the concept in scripture as rapture and no that word isn’t found in scripture but the entire concept is. So yes Gay here and most importantly saved from sins chains!!!!! I am only going to Heaven eternal life because of what Jesus did and accomplished by dying and raising to life. Its what he did and not what I am doing or did or promise to do . I am free to be me. Free to love and be loved. I am free to express Jesus with anyone I meet and still be imperfect in my actions. But love is the greatest thing to do. And God is love that he gave us his perfect sinless son to take our place. Now is homosexuality a sin? I don’t care if it is or isn’t. We are all sinners in need of being spiritually born again. After that happens your mine sins are never going to be remembered by God. That my brothers and sisters and eveyone else is the Gospel the Good News. Look around and see the World. Its getting darker. Yes Jesus Christ is coming back. Believe believe believe!!!! If you don’t yet simply call upon him Jesus to be saved. Simply say in your heart Jesus I want to believe you. Please show me. You will be amazed at what happens. Your eyes will spiritually get it. And never forget dont beat yourself up. You wont be perfect in your actions words or deeds. And even our brain can have sinful thoughts and intrusive thoughts. Just remember Jesus knows that. But Jesus is the only way. All other religions are self focused. Do this don’t do that. Jesus says simply trust him believe him. God bless .

Good for you. God ensured that I was always very close to many people who are all of the genders of the rainbow. So, after I met God, I decided that Jesus spoke perfect truth. So, I started studying the Bible carefully. I knew that God loves gender nonconforming people just as much as anyone else, more than hateful people. I discovered the truth. Jesus said that men made the law of physical circumcision. It wasn't given to Moses by God. Jesus taught circumcision of the heart. Jesus said that the Bible is NOT the inerrant word of God, John 7:22. After this, I searched to see if Jesus said that anything else wasn't from God. I found many things including almost everything in Leviticus. He spoke against food prohibitions, offerings and sacrifices and ritual cleansing. Leviticus was from men, not God. Anywhere you see these things in the Bible, you can be certain that these were from men, not God. This includes things that Paul said that went against the teachings of Jesus. I always explain that Paul and all of the others except Jesus were mere mortals and, so, imperfect. Only Jesus was and is perfect because only Jesus was and is God. How about Sodom and Gomorrah? Jesus didn't say much about this but I know something that goes along with the teachings of Jesus. That is that the sin wasn't about being gay. It was about having unloving hearts just like many false Christians today. With God it's all about the heart and nothing else. Let me give you what Jesus commanded that proves this. Jesus said that all the Law and the Prophets hang on two commandments. They are to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. He also said that everyone is your neighbor and that you are to have mercy on your neighbor. This is in the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Then, He said several times not to judge others. He even explained that all judgment was given to Him alone. One more thing that should be said but has nothing to do with LGTBQIA people but is also important to know. It is that you can't love God and money. You will love one and hate the other. Think about conservative "Christians". They love money. They don't love God or their fellow humans. Jesus said that just before He returns there will be many false prophets and that the love of most will grow cold, Matthew 24. We are in that time. When you see people calling themselves Christians while going against every single thing that Jesus taught and commanded, you know that they are not genuine Christians. They are false prophets and false disciples. This is what the hate is all about. True Christians don't hate anyone but they aren't happy with those who take the name of the Lord in vain and blaspheme which is what false Christians do. Jesus came to explain what was from God and what was not from God but from men. Unfortunately, those with evil hearts gravitate to those things that are from men and away from those things that are from God. Needless to say, I am an ally who reaches out to teach the truth of God to the good people who are the ones actually being persecuted along with teaching the truth to those who have turned to evil by holding hate in their hearts. God is love, not hate. Only evil humans do that. My apologies for not giving all of the passages. It's late and I'm on my cellphone. If anyone would like the passages, please reply. Gmail will notify me. If I remember, I will come back anyway to provide them to you. God bless you ❤

As a Christian with SSA and someone who is not affirming in the sense that I believe it is sin, but also in support of the people group's liberation, I was drawn to watch your video to learn more about the arguments I used to hold, and to revisit them. I had a few things come to mind as I was watching, and I wanted to leave some questions here whether for you or other viewers to look at in the hopes of opening some good discussion. If part of Christ's gospel was being known by our love, but also being known by abiding in His word, is it not possible to have both? To have good theology and a loving heart for those who are lost? I don't think that we ought to lose one in favor of the other, even if just for a short while, since the gospels are clear that to be a mature christian, we ought to balance both. Within the queer community it's often a point to be made in their activism that "Gay people have been around since the beginning of time," with this being said, also next to the doctrine that all scripture is God breathed, what does that say for the idea that author's are simply criticizing cultural context and not Homosexuality as a whole? Wouldn't an all knowing God have the knowledge of such relationships? In regards to the text in Leviticus, my question pertains to where the text lies in relation to other texts in chapter 18. With incest being strongly condemned, and us still holding this same view of its sinfulness, would that view not apply as well to homosexuality- given the textual context? I've seen much debate on whether or not the text pertains to grooming/ pederasty, but if that is the case, many scholars both in differing schools of thought, as well as in the psych field have acknowledged that exposure to such things as sexual abuse at young age, have impacted people's sexual identity. Therefore potentially drawing to the notion that, since this was prevalent in culture, God had condemned the act in an effort to stunt the spread of homosexuality. Often times too, I want to add that people may refutes arguments such as mine with my eating habits. Questions like "do you eat pork, or shellfish...etc.." All good bible readers will recall Jesus' saying that all food was made clean, since it does not enter our hearts, but our stomachs and exits our bodies ( Mrk 7:18-19) Again, I want to reiterate my respect for you and others in the comments with a differing view than me, and I am just looking for open honest discussion with my fellow believers in Christ! God bless you all :)

Its either you cruscify GOD inside you and let ur selfishness and ego free like barabas , or you cruscify ur selfish desires and ur will by surrendering to christ so that u become purified and he can work through you , you become a vessel that GOD works through so its not you who live but christ lives in you like what paul said, for me i always knew this idea that jesus on the cross showed us many spirtual secrets. He died at age 33 wich is 6 in gematria and adam was made in the 6th day and christ died on the 6th day and entered sabath ( 7 ) , 6 is the material world ( our animalistic nature or ego self ) when we surrender to christ our selfishness or will "dies" and thats baptism and cleansed and christ ressuracts in us , thats how we enter sabath 7 we enter GODs rest and sunday is 8 wich is eternal life or infinity so 678. Also he made a way to give us the eucharist . In order for me to live an animal must die or a plant and christ died for us to give us his life and in order for christ to live in me i must die ( my will must die ) ☦️

I am Christian myself and I did not know my position on this matter so I tend to listen other Christians, but recently I started to question it, since the events at olympic games, with the Drag queens portraying the painting of Jesus and every Christian becoming furious about it, calling it blashemy and so on...I started to question: Really what's wrong about it? why would Jesus reject and not love LGBTQ+ people? what's outrageous about it? Then I came to the conclusion that Jesus loves LGBTQ+ people too so I am not here to judge . and if we are unable to look at this kind of image without becoming furious about it , it tells more about how sinner we are ourselves rather than what the LGBTQ+ are doing. Really it sucks people are not able to live with each others and stop judging. I decided I don't want to be this kind of person.

18:00 Christians have to manifest their Christianity by persecuting others. This raises questions for me. What does it mean to be persecuted? Does defining and establishing boundaries, e.g., theological, ethical/moral, etc. equate itself with persecution? More specifically, if the Church teaches that a certain belief or lifestyle, e.g., that of gays, since it was mentioned here, is sinful, is that persecution? Who determines what is right belief and behavior? The Church? The government? Educational institutions? The family? Scripture? Secular scholars? The scientific community? The individual? Can the Church (or any other organization, community, society or nation) function properly apart from establishing distinctive beliefs and boundaries in relation to the world around it?

Think about this Malachi 4:1-6 Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. Then you will trample on the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty. If you do as he says he will heal you brother. The earliest account of a form of PSA that is refused of God is in exodus 32:30-35 Exodus 32:30-35 30 The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” 31 So Moses went back to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves a god of gold. 32 But now, please forgive their sin-but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.” 33 The Lord replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book. 34 Now go, lead the people to the place I spoke of, and my angel will go before you. However, when the time comes for me to punish, I will punish them for their sin.” 35 And the Lord struck the people with a plague because of what they did with the calf Aaron had made. So out of ignorance of Gods character along with Their impassible immutablilty towards those Father declared as ligitimate children, in my opinion was the earliest form of PSA that God refused to act upon as God by design will not require a child of wrath to atone children of wrath. To blot moses out of the book of life in the place of others to forgive would portray Them as a passible mutable God toward the righteous and Their promises to secure and preserve His children unto conformity to the image and glory of Messiah Yeshua's humanity. For whom Father gave to the Son to taste death in behalf of for the sake of their sins. Paul the Apostle in Rom 9:3 in thinking of moses in his great love for his people was willing of a similar fate but he knew it was not plausable that even if he requested God as Moses did to sever himself from Yeshua in their place in hopes to save some. It was not going to happen. By design reflecting Gods Character and promises for those He declared legit children ,such conformities do not bring about our redemption nor forgivness. As it will only render one a child of wrath that cannot save, because they cannot obey God nor please God.

35:07 "The more closely I study the Bible for myself, the less and less I think that Evangelical Christianity actually cares about studying what the Bible actually has to say, than it is interested in making the Bible conform to its own preconceived ideas." Point taken, and this is certainly very true for many Christians, but are you not doing exactly the same thing? By viewing the Bible primarily through an ethic of helping the oppressed, you are looking for particular answers that justify your own worldview, rather than trying to let the word speak for itself as much as possible. Of course, the New Testament tells us not to hate others so at least that could help frame our understanding of the Old Testament, but I feel as though you sometimes in this video conflate hating others with not affirming their lifestyles - two very different things! Basically, I think this is nice and all, but you seem to be just as biased toward affirming gay people as the anti-gay Evangelicals are biased against affirming them.

On the damage the Penal Substitution and Imputed Righteousness: "As to the justice of God requiring the punishment of the sinner, I have said enough. That the mere suffering of the sinner can be no satisfaction to justice, I have also tried to show. If the suffering of the sinner be indeed required by the justice of God, let it be administered. But what shall we say adequate to confront the base representation that it is not punishment, not the suffering of the sinner that is required, but suffering! nay, as if this were not depth enough of baseness to crown all heathenish representation of the ways of God, that the suffering of the innocent is unspeakably preferable in his eyes to that of the wicked, as a make-up for wrong done! nay, again, 'in the lowest deep a lower deep,' that the suffering of the holy, the suffering of the loving, the suffering of the eternally and perfectly good, is supremely satisfactory to the pure justice of the Father of spirits! Not all the suffering that could be heaped upon the wicked could buy them a moment's respite, so little is their suffering a counterpoise to their wrong; in the working of this law of equivalents, this lex talionis, the suffering of millions of years could not equal the sin of a moment, could not pay off one farthing of the deep debt. But so much more valuable, precious, and dear, is the suffering of the innocent, so much more of a satisfaction--observe--to the justice of God, that in return for that suffering another wrong is done: the sinners who deserve and ought to be punished are set free." - George MacDonald, Justice

"I believe in Jesus Christ. Nowhere am I requested to believe in any thing, or in any statement, but everywhere to believe in God and in Jesus Christ...I believe that Jesus Christ is our atonement; that through him we are reconciled to, made one with God. There is not one word in the New Testament about reconciling God to us; it is we that have to be reconciled to God. I am not writing, neither desire to write, a treatise on the atonement, my business being to persuade men to be atoned to God; but I will go so far to meet my questioner as to say--without the slightest expectation of satisfying him, or the least care whether I do so or not, for his opinion is of no value to me, though his truth is of endless value to me and to the universe--that, even in the sense of the atonement being a making-up for the evil done by men toward God, I believe in the atonement. Did not the Lord cast himself into the eternal gulf of evil yawning between the children and the Father? Did he not bring the Father to us, let us look on our eternal Sire in the face of his true son, that we might have that in our hearts which alone could make us love him--a true sight of him? Did he not insist on the one truth of the universe, the one saving truth, that God was just what he was? Did he not hold to that assertion to the last, in the face of contradiction and death? Did he not thus lay down his life persuading us to lay down ours at the feet of the Father? Has not his very life by which he died passed into those who have received him, and re-created theirs, so that now they live with the life which alone is life? Did he not foil and slay evil by letting all the waves and billows of its horrid sea break upon him, go over him, and die without rebound--spend their rage, fall defeated, and cease? Verily, he made atonement! We sacrifice to God!--it is God who has sacrificed his own son to us; there was no way else of getting the gift of himself into our hearts. Jesus sacrificed himself to his father and the children to bring them together--all the love on the side of the Father and the Son, all the selfishness on the side of the children. If the joy that alone makes life worth living, the joy that God is such as Christ, be a true thing in my heart, how can I but believe in the atonement of Jesus Christ? I believe it heartily, as God means it." - George MacDonald, Justice

This touched my heart. My ears were metaphorically glued to my headphones for the entirety of the video. I've been studying the particular scriptures and interpretations for a while, and it has been a great burden upon my soul. At one point I thought I would have to disagree with the Bible in order to be affirming of my friends, family, and myself (which I was very prepared to do). Thank you for helping lift that worry off of my shoulders. I feel like I can breathe again. Thank you so much.

The only “proof” that God exists is the self-attesting one. The reason I am able to accept the reasoning behind your argument (and the reason others will reject it) is because God invaded my life directly and personally in a way that can neither be proven nor doubted by abstract apologetical arguments….

But here is a question I think you should read (and perhaps answer): Why do you refer to LGBT+ people as people who does not act or think like you? (38:10 to 38:30). Actually, ANYONE could act or think differently, whatever their sexuality might be. Am I wrong?

@@its_lemon_19 Ok. But a sexual orientation has nothing to do with "thinking"; thence, nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with someone. And that is another word (to "agree") which I usually hear in a "misused" or improper way, related to the concept of "sexual orientation". It's (to put an easy example) like saying "I agree or disagree with you being 1.78 meters high". It's absolutely meaningless or nonsense. Because both, a certain height and a certain sexual orientation are characteristics of a person, not decisions they take or thoughts they have. And also, both are things that don't depend on any person's will and no person can change. An agreement is always related to things you can: do/make, decide, change, start, continue, end...

Wow, that was an excellent introduction to Origen’s views on the interpretation of Scripture! So good! I also love in his Commentary on Matthew how Origen expresses how those who follow Christ up the mountain of maturity will experience a Transfiguration of the Word from letter to Spirit, and thus behold the Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah) and even the gospels (Jesus) in a new glorified Light. So too, I think Paul introduces the “new covenant” not as a new set of writings, but rather as a new mode of interpretation (2 Cor 3:6, Rom 7:6). As the Spirit of God illuminates the Text through the gift of spiritual interpretation, we are thus granted (like Joseph or Daniel) a new spiritual understanding of the Revelation. Only then does it truly become what God is speaking! Interestingly, Augustine sought to UNDO much of what Paul and Origen previously established with their focus on the Spirit of the Word. As such, Paul was very clear that we are to become partakers of a new covenant “NOT of the letter, but of the Spirit, for the letter kills.” (2 Cor 3:6) Meanwhile, Augustine named his writing “On the Spirit AND the Letter”, encouraging the Church to partake of the Spirit of the Word without actually letting go of the letter. But Paul referred to this approach to Scripture as adultery. (Rom 7:1-6) As such, Paul taught a circumcision of the heart, NOT the flesh, by the Spirit, NOT the letter (Rom 2:28-29, Gal 5:11, Col 2:11). Whereas those in Jerusalem were looking to keep the letter of the Law still in place, and thus still maintain a certain sense of righteousness of works by outward conformity to the Law's Letter, rather than shifting purely towards a transformation of the heart by the Spirit! (Gal 5:1-12, 2:12) So too Origen does a great job highlighting how the stories of genocide and violence ought not to be taken literally (in their carnal/bodily sense) lest we befoul and defame the true nature and character of God as Love! For taken literally, many Bible stories minister condemnation, violence, and wrath, and thus become what Paul refers to as a ministry of death and condemnation, for the letter kills. (2 Cor 3:6-9) But taken spiritually, the Word can still edify and nourish as Origen suggests. Thus the flood of Noah can be understood as a death (water baptism) of the old man, not a wrathful destruction of all creation (1 Pet 3:21). And the Lake of Fire can be discerned as a baptism of the Holy Spirit and Fire that purifies and refines, rather than a literal fire that torments eternally. (Matt 3:11, Mal 3:2-3). Thus where Scripture does not align with and uphold the true nature of God as revealed in the Boundless Love and Compassion of Christ, the outer chaff of the letter needs to be winnowed away, so the edifying spiritual contents can be enjoyed.

I'm convinced the problem is the Image of the Beast. People don't know they're idolaters today. Right-wing Christians don't listen to the truth anymore. The little horn is false Abrahamic religions. 1. Catholicism 2. Islam 3. Conservatism (America-the resurrection of the head of the Beast. Two wings of an eagle (Daniel 7:4, Rev 12:14). Are we watching and praying or watching TV and playing games? So much idolatry...😢

I think 1John3:23 sums up Christianity; "This is His commandment, to believe in the LORD Jesus and love one another, as He commanded us." Sadly, right-wing Christians and Catholics live in anti-gay & anti-choice bigotry (1946themovie proves the Bible is not anti-gay). To have faith in Jesus, truly, implies you listen to what He says, like Matthew 7; "JUDGE NOT OR YOU'LL BE JUDGED." And all the rest of the world is idolatry. Rev 13:11-16 is America. Two horns like a lamb are right-wing Christians and Catholics. Jesus is the Lamb. They speak lies, bigotry & greed. It’s all the false prophets and thieves coming through the Image of the Beast. Compare Exodus & Revelation 13:16 & Matt 5:29. What we fill our minds and give our time proves who our God is. It's Jesus or the Beast. The Mark of the Beast is SIN. It's symbolic. 666=man making himself God. (6=man's #, 3=God’s #). It's the same old story from the Garden of Eden. It's a symbolic Mark, it’s a real image and it's what most the world lives for. Are there any more Spirit filled believers? I'm a born-again gay stoner Jew. I'm filled with the Spirit. Jeremiah 31:31-34 fulfilled. Can 2Thess2:11 be where we actually are today? The church is fallen. Trump is lawless. They believe THE LIE.

  • @TommyStahr
    @TommyStahr Před měsícem

I agree. Jesus said in John 6:37 that "ALL THE FATHER GIVES TO ME WILL COME." That doesn't mean we stop sharing the good news with whoever will listen. It means we leave the growth to God. He'll save who He'll save. I'm a born-again gay Jew since 1982. He's saving LGBTQ people and Jews, too. Are the TIMES of the Gentiles fulfilled? Luke 21:24 seems to say so. Is it ALL FULFILLED? I believe Revelation 18:4 is calling us all to turn off the world and turn on Jesus.

If our forgiveness of others is no longer based on the lex talionis but grace isn’t that because it is derivative of God’s free forgiveness of us in Christ? But Christ’s atonement accomplishes this FREE grace precisely because his wasn’t free. It was a payment based solely upon God’s justice. Without the one you cannot have the other. God is angry at sin. Just look at the story of Noah or Yahweh at the golden calf incident. In both cases it was a sacrifice that turned God’s anger away. If you don’t see deep into the problem you will never see deep into the solution.
