Knowing what it was like to grow up as the only Deaf person in her hearing family and raising two young signers, Sheena felt something was missing from the internet. A place where everyone is welcome to learn ASL.
Finding her inspiration from the Food Network Channel, ASL Nook came alive in 2013. Since that day everything changed! Little did the ASL Nook family know that it would have such a profound impact on people, especially on hearing families raising Deaf children.
Our audience grew to where ASL classes - both high schools and universities - are using the videos as a part of their instruction. Today, ASL Nook has a huge following.
This would have not been possible without the Deaf community’s support and loyal viewers.

Deaf Family talks about Deaf Cure
In a previous video, Sheena (Deaf mom) and Shaylee (Deaf daughter) discussed in length the real impact gene editing has on the Deaf community. Will gene editing lead to the extinction of Deaf humans? And other human variations? In this video... Sheena, Shaylee, Manny (Deaf dad), and Ivy (hearing sister) talk about how they truly feel about a potential Deaf cure. Captions are included.

Deaf Mother and Deaf Daughter Talking about Deaf Cure

Is gene editing for everyone? Two Deaf people, a Deaf mother, and Deaf daughter, sit down to talk about the real possibility that a Deaf cure will be here sooner. With CRISPR technology, Deaf people as well as their culture and language like some specific animals might no longer be on Earth. Then, they discussed about the contributions Deaf people gave to this world and what would they would do...
Deaf Children Feel the Beat

Now that the “Feel the Beat” film is on @Netflix worldwide, I want to show the beauty of Deaf children across the globe signing “Feel the Beat” in their own language. Too often we are marginalized for “not being able to hear.” Today, we are here to celebrate the gift of being Deaf and sign language. To show the world what it truly means to feel the beat. And when the world doesn’t k...

Child Abuse!!!Do they have any common senses to say that!! My God! I think they need to retrain & relearn some sign language! 😙😂😝
Hi Sheena I was wondering about Deaf Out loud is it just the one episode we will be seeing? Is it a 3 part series? Or is it hopefully an ongoing show? I am excited you and Manny decided to make this show. Shay and Ivy are so precious. I love watching them on ASL NOOK. Thank you for your videos!!! Have a great day?
Hope Someday (soon) A and E will continues TV programs. I'm Deaf n proud. Thank M M
I love the deaf community and ASL
I had some challenges to watch. It wasn't on Hulu in my area and it wasn't accessable in my Direct TV Now app (not included in a&e list of shows). I had to download an a&e app and use the Direct TV Now provider and then use Google or FB to sign in/up....20 min to find the show and another 15 to sign up and watch.
I subscribed to your page!
I saw this show last night....I am very fascinated by your family! My daughter's preschool teacher has been teaching them sign language which I think is awesome!
I’m hard of hearing
A recent accident has left me almost completely deaf, and I'm beginning to learn how the hearing world responds to the deaf and hard-of-hearing. I'm not liking that very much.
I'm planning on going to college for ASL interpreting. This looks like an amazing show with great potential!
We are dis-abled from making doctor's appointments, apparently. Even ENT's don't do e-mail or text. unless you have a hearing person you trust to make a phone appointment for you, you just are out of luck.
I’m so excited for this!!
I am hearing and am taking American Sign Language at my college and love it! I am always amazed at how peoples face light up when i sign to them especially if they are needing help finding something
I didn’t know Ivy was hearing!
I'm looking forward to watching this! The way the phrase "child abuse" is thrown around is rediculous. I've heard that it's child abuse not to automatically choose an implant for my Deaf daughter. That because she's being raised in a hearing family, she needs to hear to be like the rest of us. People have zero understanding. I'm hoping that you'll cover this topic in Deaf Out Loud so that more of the world can understand and know what it's like from a Deaf persons perspective. It's as if people believe that because we're hearing, we don't have the right to choose that she not be bothered with implants, but because we're hearing we MUST choose that she has some way of hearing. Regardless of the fact that she's content Deaf and we're happy with her the way she is. We are fine if she makes the decision on her own in life, but as of now we use ASL and that's that.
HEY GUYS I ANGEL FROM TSD
CHILD ABUSE?!? Excuse me? So how is being different abuse? Embrace who you are not what you are. People need to have more compassion and need to try to have understanding in ALL aspects of life.
I am SO EXCITED!! I saw the commercial for Deaf Out Loud on Facebook a few days ago, and it made me so happy to see you guys in it!! I can't wait to see the show :)
Can't wait to watch!
I am so excited to watch this "Deaf Out Loud" ! Great job, great family.
Child abuse? Oh my god, that's awful for anyone to say! I became deaf in one ear at 17 and the rest recently. My kids are now learning sign language. They're sweet ☺
Where can I watch it if I’m from Spain? 🤗
I'm so excited to see this!!!!
Wow yes true and amazing
So excited to watch Deaf Out Loud! Is it only one night? or is it a whole series?! :D
For now, one night. We're hoping we can change that! ;o)
Omg! I have to see it!!!!
Dead people aren’t disabled; their ability has just been severely dissed by everyone.
I am so proud of you
I started learning sign language 10 months ago and I’m excited about this show :)💕
I love this! I learned sign a few years ago so I could talk to my friend who is deaf.
Can’t wait to see this! I’ve been using asl for 2 years and finally got to use it when a deaf couple came to eat!
I wish you would post more videos.
We are on a summer break! Kids are getting busier and busier as they grow up. We plan to post a new video in September.
Sheena McFeely super excited! Can't wait :)
