Richie, Just recently getting into your lessons due to my criminally delayed exposure to Woody. A true genius. Thanks for sharing his lessons with the rest of us. I find his playing to be very symmetrical but in an unexpected way. The fourth and fifth intervals are so present in his playing, and that’s part of what sets him apart. It’s so difficult to play the way he does purely as a technical matter, not to mention in a way that sounds musical. It’s likes he’s dancing around the basic notes. These exercises you’re sharing really help demonstrate how he arrived at his unique sound.

Someone once described Woody’s soloing as painting himself into a seemingly unrecoverable corner, and then extricating himself with equal brilliance. I always loved that description of Woody, one of my favorite soloists ever!

The mouthpiece is a Giardinelli, I don't know the model, but it certainly isn't very deep. Similar to Giardinelli 7M.

May I ask what you think of the Yamaha Bobby Shew Jazz mouthpiece?

Hi, i think you are definitly right, but there is a Big Band arrangement of Manteca by Mike Tomaro, wich is based on a 3/2 clave. I was confused by that.

Mr. Vitali this music is so lovingly, hopeful, these tones are full of emotions. W,hat a tribute to Malala Yousefaza , an amazing young girl of strength, courage and determination. She drove a knife in all our souls with her story from Pakistan. She remains a young lady of inspiration, intelligence, way beyound her years, for education of young girls all over our world no matter religious divisions or color. What a dear soul you are also.
