If you are following this guy's advice, do be aware of oil spill laws and oil recycling laws or locations to put your old oil for recycling. Be VERY careful not to it spill, because some places are going to throw fits if you have so much oil on the ground that the military will claim your driveway. But yes, do be aware of where you can drop off your oil for recycling. Don't just throw it away.

Me who studied pretty much everything in cars including oil changes. Actually oil changes are pretty fun half the time ngl I also hate when I tell others to do it and they don't think they need to do that. Then they Say they hear strange noises coming from the engine bay.... Then they try to tell you well you didn't warn me... Like full no i did you were looking at the sky when I told you...

It cost more now to change your oil than to have someone do it for you. I used to change mine all the time new filter get rid of the mold oil buy new… no reason to do it.

Because getting the oil filter gasket and plug is nearly 100 bucks and an oil change at a shop is around 40.

Or I can go to my trusted shop, pay them $30 and have them do it in half an hour for me instead. Tough choice.

I mean how much are you saving on changing your own oil? You have to buy 4 qt of engine oil, an engine oil filter, and the crush washer along with various tools you need to change the oil, all while you hoping you didn't buy the wrong oil or filter) You also have to spend time locating a good flat area to lift the car (not everyone has a garage or space in front of the house (or even has a house)) all while hoping your car doesn't roll off on top of you. In addition, what happens if the oil spills on the ground? Are you going to spend the next 25 minutes scrubbing the oil off from the ground? What happens if the oil pan screw won't plug back in? Maybe it's all threaded out, how are you going to find a replacement on short notice and without transportation? Maybe all things go well, but you still have to spend the time to take the old oil to an automotive shop for recycling. Also aren't you forgetting something? What about rotating the tires too? Usually, you would change the oil after 5,000 miles so you would also rotate and balance the tires for even wear on the tires. What about the engine filter and cabin filter? Are you planning on inspecting the belts too? Brake Pads? These are routine inspections offered by my dealership during an oil change.

As a mechanic, most shops you take your car to (not jiffy lube) will do inspections to make sure the rest of the car is good. If you do the oil change yourself, you better know what to look for in brakes, tires, hoses, wipers, fluids, bushings, ball joints, leaks, filters, and dash lights, or else you wont catch problems until they manifest as issues, which is always when you NEED her to get you to work THAT DAY.
