As a newer guitar player, I have cycled through a lot of guitars and a lot of gear to figure out what works, let's talk about them. I am a small channel and all gear I discussed has been bought by me and I have no outside influences unless I tell you otherwise. I am a fully paid Fender Play subscriber and I received their normal discount on most of their products that I purchased.
The Squier Mustang Updated! Such a Great Guitar!
This budget guitar punches way above its weight in every way. It is really light and ergonomic, great for a newer or a small-framed player, and older player sensitive to weight, and great for multiple music styles. This one has Tusq string trees and Fleor ALNICO 5 Pickups.

After watching the vids you posted in the past, prior to this update, I managed to find a new Bullet Mustang which was a surprise! I do feel that its better on my small hands but I also made adjustment with my fretting hand technique which has really helped. I really like mine, it's all black as I put on a black pick up guard. I sanded the neck, it's really smooth now. I really like the tones while playing it clean however anything with distortion sounds more nasal like though it's decent with a bit of crunch. Yours didn't sound this way to me with the demo and I'm assuming it's the pickup upgrade you did. I have a graph tech nut and string tees ready to be added. Basically a great sounding blues perhaps jazz tone. I like it but now I'm wondering if I could handle a full scale neck and that opens up more possibilities, the Squire Strat, and other tones etc...

they suck, straps last about a week, then after you take them off you have thick sticky residue left on your strap..LAME. just reposition the strap button

If you want your distortion sound nice and heavy use humbucker pick ups and put it on the bridge pick up.

You could mod out the Eart for a couple hundred dollars and it would instantly be a $3,000 guitar. It has stainless steel frets too if im not mistaken as well?
@@MrMfalzone For sure. I added an SD humbucker in the Bridge. It is really rocking now.
@@MrMfalzone Yes it does have stainless frets, they are great.
After much research and watching this video, I found one for sale and ordered it. I have heard the saddles are not easy to adjust for intonation. Have you found that to be an issue yourself? Thank you, great vid.

@@robertsguitarsandgear In the specs it mentions that the radius is at 12". In my research many say that a 9.5 is better for chord changes.Others argue that 12" can be just as good that way granted that the neck isn't too thin. With smaller hands have you noticed a difference in playing the 12" neck while changing chords? For the better? Thanks a ton.
@@scourneene I truly have not noticed a difference for me from 9.5 to 14”.
@@robertsguitarsandgear that's interesting Robert, thanks for the reply, so many people say it's easy to make chord changes with a 9.5" radius or flatter but others, such as yourself, mention that it didn't really effect their play much at all or that they didn't notice. I guess I'll see for myself soon. Thanks for your time.

I'm thinking about getting one of these in Aztec gold but I want to get a partscaster conversion neck (I have small hands) do you know if it has a tele neck or a strat neck?
@@talentosa57 For Classic Vibes at least I think they are the same. It is a very comfortable neck for small hands.
is the neck pocket a telly pocket or Stratocaster? That’s the question.

@@ratbird3290 Thanks, best I can say is that looking at a CV Strat and the Nashville side by side the Neck joints look quite similar.

Great video thanks for bringing some attention to this gem! After 2 years the only problems I have encountered are the tuners-to match the color scheme/black tint of the guitar the appropriate locking tuners are expensive. Then the electronics. No, not the pickups and such! The volume and tone knobs are loose and rattle and seem not level or plumb to the top. The input jack gets loose as well. Mine has narrow/tall frets which can make fretting chords high up the neck difficult, but you can really “dig in” on lead as the pros say!

I got it at $700 so all is fixed. And as you pointed out it’s the beautiful top, the mahogany, the set neck, and the pickups that make this guitar a gem. I’m surprised you don’t see more of these guitars-from local bar bands to music videos.
Hey rob im considering this guitar but I’ve heard people having intonation issues. Have you experienced this?

should the string height be the same the whole length of the neck?
@@rickyparr8001 Not necessarily, for setup we usually use references like the 12 fret, and may not use the same action height for each string.

Wow Robert!! What an out standing and helpful review!! The Mustang Bullet has been on my radar as of late after I bought very beautiful looking Suire Strat that has been giving me lots of pain and grief with my small hands. I just hope I can find a bullet in Sunburst!!

I would say the Harley Benton st Modern plus beats both guitars and its even a lot cheaper than the Eart guitar

Yep i have small hands and arthritis in my worn out fingers. I love my Strats and Teles, but its the stretch i can't do them justice. I'm on the limit of finger from 2nd to 5th. Gonna check out a Jaguar or Mustang because of the scale.

I’m curious to know if Jaguar pickups can handle more drive or distortion than the ones on a Jazzmaster. Love the Jaguar but hate 60 cycle hum.

What about a fender jaguar?
Not a bad choice for scale length, but the Necks are fairly thick. The Squier CV versions are better for that.
Robert, you recommeded D'Angelico Atlantic, in one of your highest categories. I bought and had to return a B-stock D'Angelico Excell SS, but had to return it because the controls were defective. I wanted a hollow or semi-hollow for its lower weight, and the scale length of the Excel was 25 inches. Now I am getting ready to try again. Did you only evaluate the one Atlantic model, or did you try any of the hollow or semi-hollow models? I think you only evaluated solid body electrics in this video. Do you have thoughts on easy to play hollow or semi-hollow electrics?
Hello Glenn, I'm sorry you had such a problem. I only tried the solid body Atlantic, I had a total of three of them over my time. I never had an issue with them. I think for hollow or semi-hollow the ergonomic question will be the thickness of the body. Weight should be good, and of course the Neck ergonomics go with their shape and dimensions.
Almost all cheap guitars have somewhat thick necks. That includes most Harley Benton, but also EART, Squire Debut, Sonic (strat), Volgoa, Grote, Firefly, Leo James, IYV, Fesly. All these are thicker than fender standard. Donner strat is an exception. I guess you go to Ibanez but find an Ibanez 22 fret is difficult. My s521 is very nice to play but the SA series and SASEX is thicker than it strat.
I just bought an S521 and love the Neck and the weight. Video to come.
Player is louder. Ppl tend to view louder=better

Honestly, I think you would need a better mic to really show the difference. The mic you're using doesn't seem to have much bass response and probably isn't positioned ideall either. That said I think the Dylan sounded a bit more full and a bit more clear, but both are good pickups.
The Squire Bullet doesn't seem to be available anymore, all I see are the Squire Sonic. 24 in scale length. Does anyone know how similar these are to the Bullet?
The Sonic is quite similar to the Bullet except it does not have the belly or arm carves. It is still quite a think body so that might still be OK.
