This video only shows the mat cover being applied to the mat and the long edges being bound by sewing on a fabric ribbon. This video does not show the actual mat being made.
Their business is just refurbishing old tatami mats, not making new ones.
You are correct, this video does not cover the topic that the title says it is about, "Tatami Making." My comment corrects the misleading title. It tells people: don't waste your time watching this if you are looking to see how tatami mats are made. At the time, I was looking for a video showing how tatami mats are made. I watched dozens of videos ever hoping to see how mats are made, but was repeatedly dissapointed with videos having titles as misleading as this one. I felt that I might at least help others who were also looking for videos on mat making, not on weaving mat tops, installing mat tops, making mat bindings, installing mat bindings, repairing mats, mat care, mat funk, designing rooms for mats, beds using mats instead of matresses, mat installation, mat comparisons, mat history, videos which all had unhelpful titles. Finally, let me point out that a mat usually has a cover and binding, but a mat is still a mat if it doesn't have either. Putting a cover and binding on a mat os NOT making a mat. It is covering and binding a mat.

To pangeria12, The tatami mat is made out of straw, so it is firm enough for walking on, yet softer than any other kind of flooring, providing a more comfortable place to sit or lay a futon. In many countries, bed mattresses used to be made out of straw. Straw provides firmness as well as cushioning, and can be made from different types of grass-like plants, such as grasses, rice and reeds.
