Compare to so many crappy videos on bad techniques on CZcams this one is extremely valuable. Got a question a #2 (if anyone can answer as I don’t believe Bernth will read this), my first teacher also taught me keep my thumb straight and follow my fingers up and down. But in this position I feel it hard to bend on the E or B string and tend to put my hand flat on the neck so I have enough strength to bend. What’s the correct position? Is it okay to learn both positions and alternate depends on the kind of solo you’re playing? Or better to stick to the thumb straight behind (in this case any exercise to learn to bend correctly)?

This is the closest I’ve ever been to completing one of these!

Many lead guitar players ignore rhythm of the song, whether the play metal or whatever. Maybe this exercise will help them.

110 bpm was my threshhold, i couldnt play the sixteenth notes cleanly at that tempo anymore. Going to practice this everyday for 30 min and see how it goes, but i have a feeling i will get stuck at 140.

As a person who practice a lot on Metallica Riffs (Mostly Rythm I still dont feel comfortable with Solo,5 month self taught) , I find this practice riff interesting, I have arleady plenty of speed i may try to do the one week practice.

What cool with this work and if you plateau, you can just stay there a couple of weeks to build up your skills and endurance and even go down a bit. thanks!

I think the problem is with my left hand, I pick correctly but my left hand fingers aren't fast enough, do u have any videos on left hand speed building? BTW Amazing video as always

Something that I have been wondering about for a long time is, if this picking technique is valid for something like black metal? I've been trying it out, but I keep going back to my normal way of picking, as it simply feels easier for playing the stuff I normally play, which is old school black metal. When using this picking technique it feels a bit clunky. What could I possible be doing wrong? I am hoping I can some way come to see the light, because as you mentioned in the video, I actually do have to change grip when playing solos and such. Great video though :)

I always have to change how I play because my pinky is kind of messed up and it cramps if I try and do too much with it. It's crooked from being broken when I was a kid in a fight and it was never fixed. So, now I have to play with mainly my other fingers which really hinders me in a lot of these runs.

Still my pick gets stuck in between the strings help (I only know one song and it's my first, _Hail to the King_ , the rhythm).
