The International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) is an organisation of Member governments that have an interest in cotton and the textile value chain. Formed in 1939, the ICAC is the only intergovernmental body for cotton producing, consuming and trading countries and is one of only seven International Commodity Bodies recognised by the United Nations.
The ICAC is involved in the development of a number of innovative projects designed to assist farmers - especially smallholders - and to provide sustainable best practices for increasing yields. These include the development of a Soil Health and Pest Management App and Virtual Reality Cotton Training Programmes.
In 2019, the ICAC also launched a global cotton initiative, in conjunction with the WTO, FAO, ITC and UNCTAD, called ‘World Cotton Day’ which is held annually on 7 October - and will be forever, with the United Nations recognising 7 October as World Cotton Day in perpetuity on the permanent UN Calendar.

I found it hard to believe what I was hearing in this video. The Aral sea dried up because the two rivers feeding it were diverted to irrigate land. There cannot be any dispute about this? The main reason the Soviets diverted the rivers was to irrigate land to mainly grow cotton. If the irrigation stopped and the 2 rivers were allowed to re feed the Aral Sea, are you saying the sea would not return?
It doesn't sound like they're disputing the fact that the water was diverted for irrigation, but the blaming of cotton specifically for the sea drying. That the diverted water was mismanaged because of how much evaporated within those irrigation channels, and also due to growing other water-heavy crops (which cotton is not)
The Earth is cooler with the atmos/GHGs/albedo not warmer. Thanks Dr. Keshav and Dr. CD Mayee, the situation in Egypt more or less like India, the area of Cotton Production is reduced by 50%. the farmers prefer to grow grains and vegetable crops than cotton
The brands should not be allowed to get away with defaulting to the Bangladesh seller "to save their own skin" as Dr Rubana Huq correctly states. As I recall brands did this in the main back in the infamous 10/11 season and many Bangladesh spinners still managed to perform and pay back over literally years. With governments worldwide supporting businesses in an effort to keep the supply chain going the brands must be "named and shamed" in an effort to ensure they cannot get away with it. People in Bangladesh will literally starve and the world needs to know it. Social media would be an excellent tool to let the world what some of these brands are doing (effectively defaulting) and when it hurts them in their pocket as the man/woman in the street does not buy their products, we in the Western world can do something to protect the supply chain. Back in 10/11 many good spinners in Bangladesh were forced to default to merchants because of the brands and whilst some spinners were clearly at fault a lot was because of the brands...This cannot be allowed to happen twice! Well done Dr Rubana Huq for making the rest of the world understand what is going on here! Best wishes!
