@@VesperAU It was a Prismacolor pencil and Bristol paper. I love the way the waxy pencil glides over the super smooth surface. You can get some nice dark tones and it won’t smudge - but it doesn’t erase well either, so best to work lightly at the beginning.

Oh blimey. Despite having had a long animation career, I’ve never done a flip book :) I started off doing drawn animation - but quickly realised just how amazingly time consuming it was - and turned to using computers, pixilation, models and anything else that would speed the process up a bit. I think if I was just starting to experiment with drawn animation now, I’d probably use Procreate or Fresco on the iPad.

@@StefanMarjoram Thank you Stefan, yes I once thought I would draw the background history of an old old racer that lives in my garden, I thought it would be fun to do a comic strip story with the help of my young daughter, this was many years ago. We wrote the storyline and the started to do the final product. It was soo time consuming, we ended up with so much script ruthlessly chopped it barely makes a story! Great fun though.. The flip book idea came from a funny incident working on a customer’s Wolseley spl. I keep a workshop diary of every days work and I thought it would be fun to make a simple tiny animation of those laughable... and cryable incidents that occur working for customers! @@ericohara2582 Those sound like some terrific ideas - you clearly have a writer/artist/director trying to get out :) perhaps each funny workshop episode could be distilled into a short strip - or even a single image? I’d like to read them. I also like the idea of telling the histories of old cars. There’s a lovely children’s book called Tin Lizzie which does just that :)

Procreate is only for the iPad but you can definitely do exactly the same process in pretty much any app that has a layers function - Photoshop, Fresco, Infinite painter, Sketchbook etc. Which app do you use at the moment?

@@StefanMarjoram I use Photoshop, but have considered trying out Fresco based on your suggestions. Finding brushes you can use in each is a bit of a nuisance.

@@XoVoX You can import photoshop brushes into Fresco. They might not behave exactly the same but with a bit of tweaking you should get something you like. That said, there are loads of nice brush sets for Fresco - many of them free. I know what you mean about finding brushes. Whenever I buy a pack I'm usually completely overwhelmed with the sheer quantity. I usually end up picking my 10 favourites and putting them in a separate collection :)

So glad you're enjoying the films and having a go at drawing in different styles :) It's always difficult to get the right balance between uninterrupted racing and applying penalties. Hopefully Toyota will have a better race next time. Will try to draw the Toyota too - have added it to the list :)

Glad you found it interesting. I too have experimented with Zebra G and other flexible nibbed pens, with mixed success. I have a the Ackerman, Desiderata Pen Co and a cheap and cheerful Manga Pen from Inkursive on Etsy. I think I have reviewed most of them here. They definitely seem a bit more prone to leaking so that means they mostly live on my desk. Also, some nibs can corrode so need washing and drying after use - which is hardly ideal. The Fude pen is still one of the tools I use the most as it makes lovely marks and ‘just works’. Feels so much better with the long handle too.

@@StefanMarjoram Thank you for the update - I had actually ordered a Sailor Fude pen from Amazon before you replied so it's really positive that you are still using yours. Seemed to be a lot of artists reviewing the Fude nib very positively there. I have several boxes of antique dip pen nibs here that I regularly use at home and someday, I might see if I can make a form of (almost) universal fountain pen feed as I find those nibs last a lot longer and don't corrode like the modern ones do!

@@fablewalls The Fude I use most is the Duke 209. I do have a Sailor (the green one) but I find the nib has too steep an angle, so you have to hold it very steeply to get the thin lines. They also do a blue or black one which I think has a shallower angle. For flexible nibs , I’ve heard good things about the ones from Fountain Pen Revolution. Unfortunately the shipping is really expensive for me in the UK.
