Anybody know if its safe to visit this place ? Like what is the Cartel situation these days like in Scorpion Bay and surrounding communities? It's a real shame Mexico is so damn dangerous because the surf is amazing there!

The only possible solution is for wealthy people to buy up the resource and manage it well, ignoring financial incentives that would otherwise turn it into a cesspool like Tulum. In the video you mentioned 50k visitors per year in the summer. Perhaps the remote location and limited, extant infrastructure are for the time being holding back the explosion seen in destinations which are more accessible. Also that Cabo has a warmer winter/spring climate which is went most snowbirds vacation outside of the U.S. and Canada.

Scoped it out on a map back in the 60s and went for it.... 3 weeks of 5-8 surf... no hotel then, no showers ... maybe time to head back down

Arrived at 3rd point on May 5th, 1995...a quarter century ago. This was before detailed to the hour surf reports & forecasts. Imagine that? Paid my $20 for a week at Jaime's Cantina and set up camp in between 2nd & 3rd. Had my wolfdog, Bo with me. Waves were flat and Jose Suelta Salsa Fredericko and KT Williams were working on Joe's lot in town. 2 days later on 5/7/1995, I woke up to surf! The tide was high. Light onshore south wind. When KT, Suelta, and I paddled out around 1030 not a sole around. Solid headhigh lines, light offshores, 70° airtemp, 68° water temp. And the swell was picking up. Perfect swell direction. By nightfall it was pumping with the incoming tide and we knew tomorrow was gunna b epic. And still no one around! As I drank my Pacifico bayena I thought about all the hundreds of waves that went unridden that day at 3rd pt., not to mention 2nd or 4th. 5/8/1995. Couldn't sleep very well with all the anticipation of what was to come. By dawn it was clear that this was a special swell. Double overhead and pumping, super consistent too! This epic swell was a southern hemi at it's best..literally no lulls whatsoever. Other than KT, Suelta, myself, Jaime, and Terry Hansen there was still noone around!! Suelta and Jaime were saying that this was about the best they'd ever seen it! I gaurentee that over a thousand world class waves went by without a sole on them. 5/9/95. Surf was so loud crashing against the rocks during the night, but I can't forget the non stop explosive lips slamming the ocean, and the fine mist in the air! As nightfall of the 9th came on it was clean that the swell was still holding and that another day of huge Scorp was coming. But so were all the ppl. Everyone came to Scorp and I recall at least 50 in the lineup at 3rd on the evening sess on the 10th of May, 1995. Epic waves continued for another 4 days, but lemme tell you how stoked I was on that huge crowded May 10 when I said, " Should of been here a couple days ago, bro."

this place is so over rated. it get swell once a year at the most, rest of the year is half foot mush .. not even suitable for a longboard...
