In April, Janet and I took our annual birthday trip to Lexington, KY. Our brother-in-law George and my sister were kind enough to give us a couple of tickets to the Maker's Mark Redheads and Thouroughbreds race at Keenland. It was a fantastic day of bettin' on the ponies and drinkin' some cocktails. Thanks G & T.

My grandfather, uncles and father worked in the Pocahontas Mines. What is sad there is a lot of black history in Pocahontas. That history is not included in the story. My grandmother was a midwife and delivery both white and black children. I spent my summers at her house in Bossevain and we would walk to the Company Store for groceries. My grandmother died in Pocahontas in 1988. She had to move to Pocahontas because her house in Bossienvain started to sunk underground because of the tunnels of the mines.

I have to tell you..I live in Greensboro and it's just magical! Like the greatest thing you can EVER imagine! I try to go through it several times EVERY season! Mere WORDS cannot explain the effects! You want to go during the day TOO because a lot of the houses put up spectacular decorations THAT you need to see during the daytime! Then, come back after dark! They also run a 5k called "The running of the Balls!" Greensboro has a lot to reccomend it as a tourist destination.. but make sure you see this for sure! Warmest regards from Greensboro NC USA!

We stayed there at the Wonderland in the 1970's. My Father's Aunt was one of the homeowners in Elkmont. He spent summers there in his youth. He worked there one summer setting up a beach area on the river across from the hotel.

Thank you so much for this video of my hometown! I lived in Abbs Valley which was the suburb of Pocahontas. My father and both of my grandfathers were coal miners. I attended Abbs Valley Elementary and Pocahontas high school until going into my 10th grade year in 1988, and they were threatening to close the schools back then. My mom decided that we needed to move from the area because sadly she didn’t see much opportunity left for the area. We ended up moving closer to my grandparents across the state line in West Virginia. I always thought it was such a tragedy to see those beautiful buildings crumble right before your eyes. It’s such a beautiful place with good people and an amazing history. So sad to hear that the high school closed. My fantasy was that a multimillionaire would come in and renovate the buildings in town and turn it into a tourist area, but it’s just a faded dream. God bless the people of Pocahontas!

Great video .. I was part of the crew that filled the tippel shaft up in Bossieviane (I probably spelled it wrong ) its location was right behind the post office .. I have always wanted to see a pic of the tippel the way it was back in its day .. do you know wher I might find a pic of it.. I'm verry interested in all of the areas history ... I was the guy who pushed the rocks and dirt into the shaft ...thank you 4 the video

Sadly, since you made this great vid back in 2013, Portland has become severely overcrowded with way too many people, terrible traffic everywhere, horrible homeless everywhere, graffiti all over the place, and is a riotous, liberal mess of defunded police thanks to an idiotic mayor aside from it being an antifa hellhole. Seattle is following suite! Don't bother going there again! Very sad what has happened to that once fine citay!
