Hey guys, this video is to teach you how i like to put together a cheap, fun big block Chevy. This motor should put a properly set up car into the 11's. This is the 5th motor I've built like this. Don't leave the junkyard buildups to the LS guys !!! It can be done with anything.
DIY Ford 9" @ The Rocket Shop

For all of you that are looking to make some serious power in a G-Body; here is a DIY video for shortening a Ford 9" housing and attaching all the bracketry to make it bolt up to your stock G-body suspension.
Damned shame the mic is a potato! Awesome build! That's a killer price for the engine.
Useful video. Thanks
Sounds great brother! My guess on hp would be 600-650.
Probably the best video I seen so far
Talk about wakeing up the neighbor hood 💪 🏁🏁🏁
We had to do this to my 12 Bolt Chevelle axle to make it legal for NHRA Stock, in my 84 Cutlass. It had to be stock length, with stock mounting points, and from the GM family.
*GAWK*
Sounds amazing. You should be proud of your work and attention to detail.. Jesus really will give you your hearts desire... Even if its a 500 inch big block 👍 God bless you my friend.
This was brutal to watch...
Good job brother, keep telling people about Jesus he’s coming soon and I’m glad, I’m tired of this evil world.
Do you not think that the engineers made that axel housing to be straight under a normal load.
i guess it was supposed to be straight when they built it, Maybe it bent over time from carrying heavy loads, bumps and potholes, or it pulled out of square as it was built from the heat of welding.
I think he has the wrong idea of what qualifies as "Poor Man's" these days. Thats an Expensive Motor for some of us.😂
my price is Canadian dollars.
@@therocketshopper Damn, thats eve Worse! I was just Playing tho. ;))
Say "why-and" not wee-ann
Very neat fabrication
"I love god" I'm done at that statement not going to listen to a single word of someone that believes in nonsense
Back ground noise
Wow Nice to see Someone That is not Embarrass Insane That They love god More power to you I think That's cool I love god too Very special person in my life Love cars too Little different That I love 💘moper I have a 1976 Dodge dart swingers slant six I'm looking forward To make a hot rod out of it I found someone That I might be able to get some good 👍Advice From If you don't mind I have A question What kind of Rear end Would you Recommend Me To install In My Dodge
I’ve been sick for a while but the good Lord has seen me through it getting Back to my 1976 Dodge dart looking to change the women what do you recommend me to get
I think you've done a good job on that. Still building motors? Big Block Kings! 👍😎
Sounds good!!
Worth every bit of $1800 , i love it
He said 8300
L.S.7 was a small block and it is 427 cubic inch only the L.S. 6 454 small block again because L.S. never built a big block in history quit listen to these idiot on the net fact check me at L.S. web sight and look at a L.S. engine that will tell u , u have no idea what ur talking about plus they are roller engine since 1970 from factory all are small blocks and they look nothing like a chevy engine
Excuse me Chevrolet did have a LS7 454 that was not installed in public cars . How ever you could purchase one for racing purposes! The LS6 came in 70 model chevelle and Corvette! In today's world you can put a hydraulic roller and a good set of heads on a 454 and pass up the big bad LS motors! I got 2 5.3s setting in the shop with 862 on one and 243 heads on the other! Probably could build one of them to make about 450 hp ! I'm staying Big Block Chevy lol
And knowing that you put a second hand oil pump back in that motor I would not trust it I would not buy it because if that lets go that Motors fucked....
When rebuilding Motors there is some places where you can save but I would not put a second hand oil pump back in that engine... if that fails there goes all that money and time.... just saying .👊👊😎
8300 cheap is 2500 that aint no poor mans engine
Not so budget only cheap out on machine work
I’ve tore apart 2 motor home engines that was 2 bolt main steel crank from the factory.
Nice build man. God bless 🙏
Hey I would like an engine built from the block up can you help I have found the rotating assembly for a 454 lsx pistons are 4.188
Amen brother. It is nice to see some one with the same faith and hot rods in mind this day in time that is willing to put the word of our Lord out there. thank you very much for the video.
Awesome build man
Excellent advice on what to use for a basic build( CAM LSA)
Nice job. So very close in setup to a motor I just purchased. Recently I stopped by my machine shop to price-out a solid bracket race motor in the 572 - 632 CI range. Starting with an aftermarket block we came in around $14k before assembly. Your numbers are very real. It adds up quick.
I made it past 12 minutes but couldn't take the Valley Girl up-speak one minute longer.
sounds very healthy!
I hope you have it sold.
Thank you for taking the time to do this..,its been helpful.. my moterhome has a forged crank aswell., I'm just giving it a fresh rebuild and a little extra power..putting it back in the moterhome
Awesome build Brian!!! Fellow engine guy here just say Why - And though lol
Very badass build. Im building something similar now i have a good idea of what i want in my build so thanks!
Pump gas?
No way, I run my LS7 on 104 LL without detonation but at 12.5:1 you won't get by on 94 octane
Open plane intake some kind of chinese one? No non American Parts on an LS-7 that i know of? Whats wrong with an AMERICAN open plane intake, come on mister take a little more time to find one........
as much as we dislike china. they always have good affordable parts for everything
My uncle builds budget build454usen every thing stock but cam pistons intake dyno550with original heads mix fuel 3500$runs11:50s on motor stock gbody7.5rear posi bigger axles7500for car
I’m replacing a couple piston side of my 454 can I just clean up the heads in Bolton back on without doing any work
Cool.
Nice work, your the Best, I don't think you will have a hard time selling it That's for sure and if anyone else out there also Thinks he's the Best please give him a thumbs up too Thank you from Joey in Honolulu Hawaii Aloha 😎
A secondhand Chinese single plane intake ?????? C'mon. You could've done way better than that. And if the cam doesn't approach a GM race spec you have wasted an opportunity. Thumbs down on this.
So what was your asking price for this engine?
I'm on to my 5th motor now. The first was 2000, then 3500, then 4500, then 8300 now i'm doing a 5500 dollar build. I'm not making much money but i enjoy doing it. I think the sweet spot for being easy to sell is around $4000
brian taylor, I was wondering if you’re making any money, it’s hard to do if you’re not a machine shop/builder
id buy it in a heartbeat for my new project but the wife says all the tax money this year has to go to the new family vehicle!! :(
Nice work, you make it look easy. I’d like to see a video of you building the jig. 👍🏻
I liked to see how straight the axel housing was under a normal weight load before he straightened up an axel designed by mechanical engineers
So what’s the actual bore size and compression? What was the total build investment?
Stock 454 BBC is a 4.25" bore & 4.0" stroke. I Had One. My Dad was a car collector. XCH was a GM over the counter long block sold back in the 70s to the early 90s. Your Choices for Heads were aluminum 074s, 077s and 990 Iron heads. My Dad bought a 77 RS new from a lot and pulled the LG3 305 out and put in the XCH. IT had TRW 12.25:1 domed pistons. Forged factory rods. Forged steel crank. The block was a 4 bolt #1959. I had 990 heads and a Edelbrock TM2R twisted intake. 850 Holley DP. It needed at least 100 octane and the timing was in the 40 degree area. I was going to rebuild it and replace the heads with a set of AFR or Brodix with somewhat smaller ports to get my velocity up at lower rpms. In hindsight I should have converted it to a E-85 build and Just improved the Heads and cam. It could have been a easy 600 hp engine. At least I still have the 77 RS. Only car I got that was my Dads. Was garaged all of it's life and still only has 118 original miles. I was somewhat concerned what a 7000 RPM 454 making 600 HP would do to a unibody car without major chassis mods. I couldn't afford race gas, so I sold it and decided to build a street friendly 355 with 10.4 static compression that makes about 425HP and 450 ft pounds. working on finishing it up now. Still need to get sub-frame connectors.
John Potsch, Thanks for spending half of your day typing that, thanks anyway. 👍🏻
@@johnpotsch7349 I'm building a 454 with 077 heads and a GM rec port intake (both with the winters casting marks). With the chrome repo GM style valve covers, it'll look like the over the counter L88 you could buy from your GM dealer back in the 70s. Internally it got 4 bolt mains, forged GM crank, 6.385 rods, 10.2 forged pistons and a .589/.600 roller cam. In my mind it's a poor man's LS7 and it'll go front of a Doug Nash 5 speed. Next I'll need to build a 1970s style hot rod to put it in.
Hope you put a bronze gear on distributor....
They make cams where you can use the Old Iron gear, you do know that right? they even make something better than bronze called Melonized!
