Hitting Off a Bridge in a Penalty Area - Golf Rules Explained
In reality, the original rule was 'downright moronic'. The ball had come to rest on the green and was marked accordingly. Therefore that should be the ball location for the next shot, regardless of anything else that might happen. Just plain common sense. They very fact that this incident caused a rule change is an admission that the original rulemakers for this were downright incompetent.
What a shot! From that lie I’d be taking my medicine and chipping out! 😅
"If I break my wrist..." lol Shut up you whiner.
Two chip chen
Why didn't he drop it on the opposite side of the penalty area?
That's not an option under Rule 17.1d, since 1 Jan 2019.
That it took something like this to happen in order to get the rules changed is dumb.
I double hit it last time i went out and it went into the water 😭
You put it there, hit it
Look I gotta thumbs up the subtle "Worst than most" call that made Koch snigger. I miss DF.
Na is painful to watch, must be agonizing to play with... but he's not wrong in this instance.
I would have called the ref back over and said "You're known as a shit official and you've just embarrassed yourself on international television - I can fully appreciate why you have the reputation. You either tried to cheat me or your judgement is so bad you shouldn't be a referee in this match."
I wonder would the rule have changed had the ball been blown into the hole for zero putts ?
That's the question that no one ever asks or answers. All we hear is how the original situation was 'unfair' because his ball ended up in the water, but would we hear the same complaints if his ball ended up in the hole? Just wait for the day (and it will come eventually) where a player has re-placed his ball after marking it and then the ball gets blown into the hole. Under the new rule, he must re-place the ball on the marked spot and continue playing. When that happens all kinds of people will say that's 'unfair', too. They can't have it both ways.
can I get free relief from the sound balance on this video blowing out my right ear?
shooter mcgavin cant stop at nothing to win the tournament even cheating.
Happened me. Ended my golf career
Nothing more than yet another spoiled brat, threatening to hold his breath until he gets his way.
What I don't understand is why Billy is getting upset with the officials?
Because the truth (at the time) hurts.
Take your lumps play sideways
Cheat
Don’t understand how he could have took an unplayable and placed it back on the green when his ball was about to roll 10 yards off. Thought you could not place/drop any closer to the hole.
Rule 18.1 always allows you to go back to your previous place played, which may be closer to the hole IF you hit the ball further away from the hole.
Actually what Berger said was called for.
Play it as it lay or take a penalty and drop in a long club
screw golf in 2024....alot of greats turning over in their graves for what has become of pga.....
Get off the roids
I'd say alot of steep bunker shots are multi-hits if you slowed them right down
we group rule free drop for tree root, we don't want injury or broken club ...
Why, Happy Gilmore holed this very shot less than an hour ago.
I call it, lift clean and cheat! Play it where it lies.
Fyi, he two-putted to win the tournament (2021 Wells Fargo Championship).
Guess something must have changed. The rule in the past was 1 stroke plus a 2 stroke penelty for hitting the ball on the move minus one in penelty reduction equalling 2.
A few questions: 1. No penalty assessed to either player? 2. Does it make a difference where the balls collide? Does it matter if they collide before or past the hole? 3. What if the balled collided before the hole. Player #1 is out, so it is his turn to putt. He strikes his putt and it was obvious the putt would have dropped. But Player #2 putted out of turn and it was obvious his putt was not going to drop. So now both plays re-putt. This time, Player #1 misses his putt, while Player #2 makes his putt. Making both players re-putt actually penalizes Play #1, while Player #2 gained an advantage. Is the correct?
1. There is no penalty unless one deliberately played out of turn to gain an advantage (and there was an agreement by the players for this to happen). 2. It only matters that they collide on the green. 3. That is correct. Here is the longer form video - czcams.com/video/vPv6V5xxr8U/video.htmlsi=LoUwy_us-dYEo2IK
So let’s say the wind blows the ball, and it happens to roll into the cup. No stroke? The previous stoke count would’ve applied?
From 2019: If the player had NOT marked, lifted and replaced their ball, then the ball is holed from the previous stroke. If the player had marked, lifted and replaced their ball, then they would need to retrieve it and replace it again.
I would say that ball is unplayable. You could never reasonably hit that in there. You could barely rake it out.
The reason that it can't be played is from the interference by an Abnormal Course Condition, for which a player can get free relief. Let's look at it this way, if the hole wasn't there where would my ball be sitting - on a nice uphill lie.
That's why ball striking is everything!
which rule again is it that says you are entitled to whack it as hard as you can directly to the flag? you brought yourself into this situation, get out of it. Go back to the tee, take a penalty... whatever... stop whining about ooh I could hurt my wrist... play a very small chip...If you are afraid to hurt yourself, play it safe!
So we’re talking about if both balls are in motion at the same time then
Fixed the title to help you out, thank you
Nice little temper tantrum Mr. Millionaire. Life can be so cruel.
Another Tour Cheat
Explain how This was "Cheating"? (Better know HOW to Determine "Point of Complete Relief" and which is NEAREST to the Location of the Ball - before you start in.)
Why would you want to take your fourth shot from the provisional when you can take an unplayable and hit your third from there?
Good question, you won't always find your original in a nice clear (although difficult) location where you can drop it as an unplayable into a clear spot.
I see that they changed the rule but I don't know why. If anything should have been changed it would be the legal slope of the putting green.
The legal slope of the green? What, exactly, is that?
@@kyle381000 It's a term I just invented. I think. If a putting green is too steep balls will continually role off, thus making getting your ball in the hole a crap shoot. It seems likely there is some regulation governing how steep the slope can be.
@@kimghanson There are lots of instances where a ball with even a little too much speed will roll off the putting surface. However, there is nothing in the Rules of Golf regulating the amount of slope on any part of any green. That said, some golf associations have guidelines regarding where a hole may be placed on a green, but that is a different topic and is not relevant to this ruling.
@@kyle381000 Thanks.
Patrick Reed is a moron.
Play it as it lies. I had to hit it off Frankenstein's fat foot. Lol. Happy Gilmore!
