The Golden Calf and the Red Heifer share some similarities in their symbolism and significance in Jewish tradition. Both are associated with impurity and atonement. The Golden Calf is linked to idolatry and spiritual death, while the Red Heifer is associated with purification from corpse impurity. The ashes of the Red Heifer are used in a ritual to cleanse those who have come into contact with death, which is seen as a state of impurity that renders a person further from God. This is likened to a spiritual leprosy, similar to the idolatry represented by the Golden Calf. The Red Heifer's red color is also seen as a rectification for the infamous idol which shone with a reddish hue, making it an atonement for Israel's "red" sin. The idea of a mother cleansing her child's filth is also used to explain the symbolism of the Red Heifer, which is seen as atoning for the sin of the Golden Calf. The similarities between the two are based on their roles in purification and atonement, with the Red Heifer serving as a means of purification from the impurity caused by the Golden Calf.
