Understanding Scar Complications: Causes and Solutions - with Dr Tasha
Scars are a natural part of the healing process, but sometimes they can develop complications that require attention. When scars go wrong, they may exhibit common issues such as hypertrophic scars, keloids, and atrophic scars. Hypertrophic scars are raised and red but stay within the boundaries of the original wound, while keloids extend beyond the wound site, forming large, raised, and sometimes painful growths.
Atrophic scars, on the other hand, are sunken or pitted, often resulting from acne or chickenpox.
Remedies for these issues vary: silicone gel sheets and corticosteroid injections can help flatten hypertrophic and keloid scars, while laser therapy and dermal fillers may improve the appearance of atrophic scars.
Early intervention and proper wound care are essential in preventing scar complications and ensuring optimal healing. If a scar shows unusual changes, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for appropriate treatment options.

    Dr. Tasha, I have found many of your videos to be very helpful. Your calm and straightforward manner in addressing many difficult aspects of the journey through cancer diagnosis and treatment are much appreciated. I have one small quibble with you in your discussion on depression. You say, 'Some are helped by one-to-one counseling, however others may benefit from seeking professional help.' Maybe it's a difference between the UK and the US, but in most states in the US, people must get degrees and pass national exam in order to practice "talk theraly." As a clinical psychologist, I am a licensed professional, as are licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, etc. We all may do one-to-one therapy with patients. If you were trying to say that some may, in addition, need antidepressant medications which can only be prescribed by physicians (ideally, psychiatrists), that is true. However, research shows that the combination of medication and psychotherapy has the best outcome in treating depression. This comment was very jarring in an otherwise excellent presentation.

It's neither bumpy nor painful, it's not a rash and is not itchy..all I mean to say is I didn't have any particular problem with it..a week ago there was redness in a very small pinpointed area below that spot and within three days that disappeared. Then yesterday Dr. Tasha I noticed a similar small red spot in another place on the same breast..and now I'm really worried that what it is.. I'm really scared.. please please do reply me Dr. Tasha! Dr. Tasha, I have a surgery question. My bilateral mastectomy left me with 2 "dog ears." The one on the left (cancer) side is more prominent and rubs against my arm. Very annoying. Why do surgeons leave those "dog ears"? Why can't an extra nip and tuck be done to fix it? Isn't bad enough we've gone through such a defacing procedure? Why not make it look better instead of giving it a "cute" name?

    • @drtashag
      @drtashag Před 16 dny

      Sorry to hear that. 'Dog ears' describe excess tissue that is left once the mastectomy is performed. You can have a discussion with your surgeon to see whether they can be excised. Depending on the amount of tissue, sometimes it can be a bit challenging to do. It is always worth a discussion though.

When surgery was done there were actually 3 areas of lobular areas within the breast, with 1 area measuring 5.5 cm.. staging went from 2 to 3 and mastectomy being needed.

      Unfortunately, even the best scans we have at the moment will not be able to pick up small areas of cancer. These areas can only be visualised under a microscope once the specimen is removed. Perhaps in the future we will have a way to accurately detect extent of disease to the mm.

I find the castor oil packs relieve the pain (they felt like sharp rocks), and the lumps are softening, more like stones than jagged rocks. I can't stand the medical system. I avoid it at all costs. I stopped antibiotics at 29, and I chose to remain unvaxxed during Covid. Yup, that was an eye-opener for sure.
