My Router Table Accident - Woodworking
My Router Table Accident
I've been a little quiet over the past few months and this is why. At the beginning of December 2020 I had an accident in the shop which resulted in me having emergency surgery on my left hand. Ultimately I was left with a partial amputation on my index finger and major joint damage on my middle finger.
I've been taking time to allow my hand to heal and have come a long way over these few months. Unfortunately I've had some other issues arise that will require another surgery in the near future. This means I will have another period of recovery, however, I'm told the recovery time should be much shorter this time around.
I wanted to post this to let you know where I've been but more importantly to let you know that this isn't going to stop me from continuing to do what I love. I hope that each and everyone of you never let a setback like this or in general stop you from doing what you want to do.
With that said, follow me on Facebook or Instagram to see more frequent content. I have plenty of builds planned for the future so be on the lookout for those videos!
Thank you so much for your support. It really means so much.

Making a Mid Century Modern Plant Stand Build Article: bit.ly/2VVON7s It seems like every time I turn around and find a new plant in our home. Making a Live Edge Dining Table with a Steel Base Build Article: bit.ly/3bZjgYE Up until now, we've had a 4 person square dining table. Making an Industrial Pipe Media Console Build Article: bit.ly/37fG8R7 Build Plans: bit.ly/3660LOa When we finished our basement we had installed a projector to watch movies/tv rather than a regular television. Up until now, we’ve had the receiver and a few other devices sitting on an IKEA coffee table just beneath the screen. So that brings us to today, I’ve been wanting to make a new media con...

How to Make a Heavy Duty Mobile Base - Metalworking
zhlédnutí 49KPřed 4 lety
Making a Heavy Duty Mobile Base Build Article: bit.ly/2WXhvnS I work in a relatively small space so I keep most of my tools pushed up against the wall when they aren't being used. I had recently gotten this table saw from a guy closing his shop and the base that came with it had limited mobility. This made it difficult to move the saw freely around the shop. I had recently purchased a new Power...
Wow. That is a very nice plant stand. I am tempted to make my own, but getting the angle right for the horizontal peices that attach the shelf would be the hardest it seems. Did you decide on an angle you wanted, marked it on the wood and check it with the miter saw? And what angle did you use?
Did the same with a router, lost my right thumb just above the knuckle.
Fingernail salad. Thanks for showing the injury. Helps keep me out of the blades.
Surely swap those screws out with some black ones? Otherwise I loooove the desk!
[...IMHO: DUMP THE "MAN-BUN"!....]
How long did it take and how much did it cost? I mostly see industrial furniture go for ridiculous prices like 500 to 900 euro's
5:55 wow that healing is amazing.
what happened to him? no uploads in years
you are lucky just to have hamburglar tips....
oh yeah this is awesome love it thanks
Sorry to hear that. It's unfortunate that you don't remember what happened or how it happened. Would have been valuable to know what not to do
Same boat, recovering , healing may or may not need tendon repair surgery God bless you
If your welds were good they would look good and shouldnt need ground off.
Adding to this comment. if the welds are good and YOU DO GRIND, it should have no voids or pits. Grind off lumpy welds, re-weld, grind again. Try turning up the heat (voltage and wire speed for Amps).
Danger … Zinc fumes!!!! Very dangerous …
Hey mate, first time viewer, enjoyed the whole process and the OCD part using body filler 😜, subbed from Tinonee AU
Watch out welding the casters there galvanized I.E. Poison, drink milk it will help flush out the galvanized poison. Nice job ill be building me a set.
Coulda been worse.
Heya! It looks like the link for the plans is not working. Are we still able to get them?
Love it you have a new subscriber
Thanks for the video. How did you install on the wall ?
Hung it on French cleats
What welding machine is that?
I’m so sorry I really I’m sorry what happened to you Hope you’re ok! All the best good luck 💛
I've done the same kind of base for my 350 kg SAMCO combined jointer-table saw, just a little bigger and heavier than yours. I've used automotive body filler too, but I closed the square holes of the iron profiles with polystyrene plugs and then used body filler to homogenize everything. Nice building btw , will serve you great for sure 💪🏽
for the bottom part with the two pipes I would have added a touch of superglue in the threads so it doesn't move or jiggle loose. It would dry clear and taking it apart would be simple since heat will break the bond if you needed to take it apart. Just torch it and its ready to move.
very nice! what depth threaded inserts did you use?
Great table
I'm sorry for what happened to you, and Ive gone through something very similar but cleaning my motorcycle chain. I lost almost half of my right thumb and yes, we know our fears and what we put at risk in my case guitar, motorcycling and rock climbing and yes, we can move on and thank God I can still ride my bike. Hugs from Chile man.
Looks great. I like the format of your video too.
You have a fascinating underwear collection :)
Good job. I like the low profile design and will probably do this lowered shape on my future rolling projects. On a safety not, It's a little hard to tell in the video but it looks like those casters were zinc plated. It's best to grind that off the surface before welding as it both messes with the quality of the weld and produces zinc oxide fumes that are highly toxic.
Hope you are fine now and you will return here soon...
Are there drawings available? I checked the home page but didn’t see them
Try to do it with woodglut plans :)
Thank you for this video. Having recently experienced a similar accident on my router table, it was reassuring to know that I will be able to return to the shop and continue my woodworking.
Great looking and trying to so something similar. How do you tighten the pipes tight enough so the threading is not showing?
I tighten the pipes as far as I can. Usually there will still be thread showing.
I feel your pain; as I watch this, I have my left ring and index fingers strapped up having done exactly the same...
Hope you've recovered and are back at it!
Hey Logan, this is such an absolute fantastic build! 11/10 keep it up! I was wondering what the name of the song you used around 5:08 mark was called?
A dream project great job
Wow. Thank you so much for posting this, it's tragic that it happened. But thank God you're okay may he bless you in the future.
I love the design. Reminds me a bit about the PS2!
Great fix with the magnet on the door, nicely done
can you tell me were you got the dowel space device?
Suscrita❤️❤️❤️
Me encantó ❤️gracias!
Can you make one out of plastic?😁😆😂🤣🤣. But seriously. Plastic!
Beautiful. Gracias😘
I love the work you did but I hate when a lot of these DIY videos have machinery that the standard person doesn't have
Sorry that happened to you. Wishing you a speedy recovery and get back to woodworking.
Don’t knock yourself Donne too much I’m 14 and also in to woodwork and in October 2020 I cut through my tendon on my left thumb and a bit of my bone. I was in hospital for 24 hours and I had a surgery to rejoin my tendon and stitch me up luckily I did not hit any nerves I don’t quite have full movement but it does not stop me.
Good luck with your recovery, keep up with the positive attitude.
