      Hi @paultsworld :) Do you mean softness? I can't seem to attach an image to my response, but on the colour page when you select your window type, the menu on the right of it will have different options: 'transform' and 'softness'. Under 'softness' you can select it for outside and inside the selection. I think that will work for you. Let me know if you need a screenshot.

    @christian-schubert Před 2 měsíci

    While this is an effective method, you've got to be careful not to overdo it. It's advisable to turn on the qualifier and check whether the white(-ish) parts of your video are actually still close to the center of the vectorscope. Note that we are talking about color CORRECTION here. You might want to introduce a certain bias when attempting to achieve a LOOK afterwards.

    • @mariatlloyd
      @mariatlloyd Před 2 měsíci

      Hi @christian-Schubert Many thanks for your comment! That is a really good suggestion to add that extra step to check the white parts. Yes, this is very much a cheat way to do this, and a professional will be able to spot the flaws a mile off. I’ve found it a helpful first step, though. My hope is to do another video at a later stage to replace this one (and others) and show a better approach. I'm looking forward to getting to that stage!

  • @hethfilms
    @hethfilms Před 2 měsíci

    Not sure why you use "shot match to this clip" to apply the correction to other clips in the sequence. If they are all shot with identical settings you can just copy and paste the correction over. Shot match is a function that interprets the footage and can introduce unwanted changes on the other clips.

    • @mariatlloyd
      @mariatlloyd Před 2 měsíci

      Hi @hethfilms Thank you very much for your comment! That's really helpful. I can't remember where I picked this up from now, but you're absolutely right, I wouldn't use shot match if I'd made other changes to the clip. I'll try out the copy-paste approach later. Thanks, again!

    • @hethfilms
      @hethfilms Před 2 měsíci

      @@mariatlloyd Sure thing! I just had way more instances of shot match not working and screwing with the image, then getting good results out of it. Thank you for compiling this series of tutorial videos Maria - and I get a mention! As you know, I’m from Premiere Pro and I really like DaVinci Resolve - thanks to your clear explanations I’m getting to grips with this software and I look forward to more tutorials. One gotcha that recently got me was audio. I produced a 20 minute video - a friend listened to it on his headphones and I had made the video with audio only in the left channel! So I’m going to have to learn about dealing with audio in DaVinci.

      Hi Paul, I'm very pleased to hear that you're getting to grips with DaVinci! I think it's good that you've already got your Premiere Pro background. Interesting to hear about your audio issue. Those little things are so easy to do! I also want to tackle audio in detail at some point. The noise reduction feature is great, but it needs a little practice, I think. Do keep me up-to-date on your DaVinci journey. It's great to hear about your progress from the perspective of someone who is transitioning to DaVinci. 😊

    I came across an interesting video from someone. They had managed to render it in NTSC format. The visible spectrum ran right up to the temperature line and stopped. And this was after I graded it and made it look decent. I'd never seen that before and can't decide what to make of it.

    • @mariatlloyd
      @mariatlloyd Před 2 měsíci

      Ooo, that's interesting! Do you have the link? Was this something that they changed in project settings? I think that in a world where high-quality videos are now - with a little know how - relatively easy to do. The next challenge is to make videos that are visually different. This does need to be faithful to the video content/theme itself, but if done well it can be so effective!

      @@mariatlloyd thank you. I will indeed let you know as I encounter problems. Certainly at the moment I am unsure about the timeline - moving all the clips along to make a gap, deleting a clip without the gap closing up, making the clip in the centre of the screen the active one being played rather than the play head moving about to the right of the timeline. Basically confidently juggling the timeline so nothing unexpected happens.

    • @mariatlloyd
      @mariatlloyd Před 3 měsíci

      @paultsworld For deleting clips without things moving in the timeline ensure that you press backspace and not delete. Pressing delete closes the gap. Regarding the playhead, yes I (now) always ensure that the clip I want to edit is selected AND the playhead over it . I've had times where I've had the playhead in one place and I hadn't selected the clip. That did lead to a few very confusing moments. Does that help? I'll definitely do a video on this. Thanks for your comments.

    It's hard to understand people... I see people on other channels asking to teach how to do visuals one way, another way, copy visuals from films and so on (I'm referring to colorization - not complete, with the knowledge of a professional colorist but using Davinci's tools even for colors)... But they don't try to learn the tools themselves to analyze, understand how the video they want to edit is in terms of colors and everything related to that... You have created a Color Page Series that teaches exactly this or at least provides a good path for those who really want to learn. And then I don't see these people coming here to learn from you on your channel.... Unfortunately it seems that people want the solution given and not learn how to develop the solution. The funniest thing is that there are several channels doing it, but they are all using the resources on the color page of the Studio version, which makes everything less difficult and you seem to teach using the free version, which is very limited on this page compared to the Studio version. Congratulations on all the work you've done on your channel, and you can be sure that if there are some who don't recognize it, there are many who do. Congratulations once again and thank you!

      Thank you so much, coffee lover, for your lovely thoughts and comments. Yes, as a student myself, I thought it was important to break everything down to show people how they can quickly and easily understand video editing and develop their own skills and styles. I always think that once you understand how something works, it gives you so much freedom to do your own thing. Do let me know if there is anything that you'd like to see, or if you have a different approach to anything that I discuss. It's always interesting to know what others are doing 😊
