Nice, it's so tricky to track them isn't it, I struggle alot to keep them in the viewfinder.

3:30 - 3:40, looks like the policeman is also filming the engines. Ironic that these steam locomotives started out as GWR and were taken over by BR and here they are in their BR liveries. Then they get photo bombed (between 4:10 and 4:30) by a modern passenger unit that is in today's GWR livery.

Three locomotives? I say ditch the diesel!

Ridiculous !!! Three locomotives to operate a steam special, what a waste of fuel, not exactly green is it? Then the inherent danger of having a 120ton diesel swinging along on the rear (when not powering) which in curves will try and pull the lighter coaches inwards, and off the rails. (Banned in BR days for this reason). Along with 2 of Bob Meanleys GWR Castles, more than adequate power. Of course "Train timing" is impossible as a result. Would I buy a ticket for such a fiasco - Not on your life !

Thanks for sharing. Mayflower always seems to perform well. '12+3' is no small load, which she seems to haul with relative ease - diesel not seen to be 'hauling her own' on several occasions. Al.

Haven't seen such crowds at Didcot for at least 15 years. Badly needed income with the price of coal and electricity. Great day for all visitors.

It was certainly a grand day out. I went to Oxford and Banbury for the return trip and was rewarded at Oxford by a high speed run through the station as they made up time lost by an earlier P.W. slack. The footage is on my CZcams channel, but the footage from Didcot will have to wait until I've got a bit more time.

Do the other 2 not have a ticket to run on the mainline? Imagine 4 Castles on the mainline!! Very nice video and very informative. Al.

What a wonderful vid.!! I grew up in Melksham back in the 50's and 60's and I remember going to Bath Spa Station with my Dad and seeing the King's coming in, I think one of them was 'King John' if I recall correctly. Happy days!! It's so good to see these films especially when you're stuck on the M25 or M3 in a traffic jam!! It makes you think what the hell has happened to this country!!

I stood on her footplate in 1951 I was seven years old I won a competition with Hornby Trains and that was my prize to be show around this beautiful Lady the driver gave me a memory that still lives as if it was yesterday He even let me us the whistle pure joy to see her again

Some nice views and footage there - catching the departure, seeing the whistle in action. Part of the permanent way looked a little overgrown - potentially dangerous for a steam engine which could discharge ash and start a fire I would think. Excellent and thank you for sharing. Al.
