Yes indeed, the people interested me almost as much as the steam engines. They live a hard life in conditions which we would consider to be those of several centuries ago. Little mechanical assistance, but many people to perform the same task. As for the locomotives, several operational locos were purchased and taken to USA. There is a post on this film from a gentleman involved in one such project. Thank you again for your interest.

We have a steam train some like this here in norway but it is on museum today and not in use unfortunately. The name was Nsb type 49 Dovregubben. Them going on Dovrebanen from Oslo to Trondheim from 1935 to 1957. That train is big and fantastic to see and think about the time that was in use. If you visit norway you find that train on Jernbanemuset in Hamar and more of the steam time here, And a little one in use some drive maby 1 km ewery summer whit the name Urskog from 1895. Filmed at Chedworth and Fosse Cross too, and it’s amazing to compare your photos with how it has all changed in 50 odd years. Thank you both for these truly wonderful record of Chinese steam locomotive's. The sight of the 2-10-2 Q7's at work, are so very impressive! I'm in my eighties now and have lived in both Canada and the U.S. for many years. But I still remember my train spotting days (with my Ian Allen books) from long ago! Incedently there are two Q7's owned by two separate steam enthusiast groups; which I have seen runing via CZcams. Both groups are located in the mid west. Here in Colorado we are fortunate to have several narrow gauge railways; two that run all day trips spring to fall. Thank you again for your pictures and the music where included, really was delightful. John Lofthouse.

Dear John< I am so grateful for your message and I hope sincerely that you can find my channel (John M Warr) and watch some of the other films that I have made which enable me, also in my 80's, to share the memories of an unrepeatable time. We still have some live steam operating to a timetable in the Isle of Man, in the Irish Sea, using locomotives which were built in Manchester and Glasgow and purchased for the line over a century ago. Always under threat from politicians, of course, but facing another season in 2024 with some optimism. I hope that my films of those engines, workshops and routes are also enjoyable. We visit the island every year for the Motorcycle racing. I too still have all my Ian Allan books, the earliest of which is 1949/50 when I 'copped' Kempenfelt on the Midland line into Bristol one Saturday morning. What a pleasurable, harmless and timeless hobby. Film making in my long retirement with my wife, together with the associated travel, including USA & Canada, has simply multiplied the pleasure. Thank you again. Sincerely, JMW

The United Kingdom. Hi John I went to boarding school in Kurseong back in the mid 50s and started my journey in Calcutta with broad gauge steam railway then had a ferry crossing and back onto broad gauge to Siliguri where 200 students boarded the Toy Train up to our school just outside Kurseong, The journey from Cal in those days took two nights to reach Siliguri. We had our own "siding" at the school entrance where the train stopped to off load a very mischievous group of lads. I have been going back to India for my hols for about 50 years and always take the opportunity to ride the "old Toy train" when possible. When I introduce myself to the drivers and mention my old school I very often get a free ride. I am on Facebook and on the odd occasion when they discuss old school days I would very much appreciate if I may use a 30 second clip to show the Toy train in action to appreciate what a marvellous bit of British engineering still chugging along after all these years. I will of course give you credit and hopefully promote your excellent video. Thanks for bringing back fond memories with your wonderful video.

Yes, their investment in rail is sustained. They spend more than the rest of the developing world combined.

Great work John. Really appreciate the effort, without people like you, all of these great bikes and characters are too easily forgotten. Why road racing never drew the fame it deserves I'll never know.

Thank you Sir! I have thoroughly enjoyed 20 years of Isle of Man racing activity having returned in 1998, after a break of some 34 years! Filming is a new dimension for me and I have learned along the way with the constant forbearance of all the competitors and their support teams who make the two annual events such a pleasure. The pandemic break has changed things so much, and we are all that much older, so I shall not be there this year. However, never say never! I shall hopefully be back again in 2023. Thank you again for your comments and I share your opinion on the uniqueness of the sport. Sincerely, Martin Warr

Yes indeed Cliff. The whole event is a credit to both the organisers and the competitors. We also must not forget the Isle of Man public who have to live as normally as possible during the two weeks of the event. Thank you for your interest but, sadly, I shall be unable to attend this year (2022) but remain optimistic for next year.

Well done you too, and thanks for the comment. I thoroughly enjoy the IOM, having gone for the first time in 1962. However, being able to make a film record adds another dimension which I too will enjoy when old age finally puts a stop to my travels Thanks again and enjoy one or two others.

Thank you so so much for uploading the video. I was from Shenyang. I immediately recognized the street you were on to Anshan. Most of buildings along the road has knocked down these days and your video brings back my childhood memory. I miss old days. Thank you!
